I don't think the whole "they don't have time" can be used as an excuse. NBA 2K has excellent commentary, and all of those guys do it for a living. The same can be said with MLB 2K. If the problem is that they can't get Nessler and Herbie in for some recording time, go out and get some other teams. Get guys who do smaller games, or even some voice actors. The best thing NCAA can do is add multiple teams, and ideally, add a partnership with CBS like in NCAA.

Someone needs to invent a machine that is a voicemask for actors that will make them sound like Brad Nessler and Kirk. Is there an app for that?

I like animated commentary like gus johnson during games. Sure there are plenty that dont like him but at least he gets into the game. But commentary should be on the back burner fix this game!!!!

That's what I've been saying although I have a feeling the ESPN agreement prevents EA from grabbing CBS or Fox Sports type personalities. I'm guessing ESPN's agreement is an exclusive one, which could very well be the problem with commentary in NCAA, EA may simply have their hands tied.

2K has always had superior sports commentary, it is very dynamic and the give and take is incredibly authentic. But where the two games you mentioned get a leg up is that with pro sports, you can make references to current or past players, current or past achievements by a coach/player/team and provide a very authentic, true to live environment.

The way the NCAA restricts these things, I doubt EA could ever do that, which significantly limits them. So I think they'd be better off focusing on making the environment and commentary more fluid and natural in game.

Of course this isn't that important to me, I've turned commentary off for years and would rather see the general game atmosphere improved over commentary, but it is something that would be nice if they worked on it.

Re: NCAA Football 13 news

As far as the commentary is concerned, a big reason it's bad is because of the system they have in place. From what I've heard it's pretty ancient if they're using the same system Madden has. I know Madden is finally upgrading it this year, so we'll see if NCAA follows suit. So in EA's case, it isn't all about the commentators they use, it's the tech that drives the commentary.

I really think EA/Tiburon came into this gen with really limited architecture to drive these football games.

I don't think the commentary is crappy, actually. A little old, yes. But not crappy. When I think of voice actors I've never heard of doing games it just brings down the whole atmosphere for me. Maybe it's because I work in the television industry and nitpick about on-air talent doing games all the time. Personal preference, I suppose. Sorry if you all don't agree with my opinion. I just don't want guys I've never heard of who aren't in the business doing commentary for my games that are supposed to mimic a real-life ESPN broadcast.

You have to be kidding.
When rugby has to make space on the disc for however many plays and playbooks, recruiting, and 22 players on the field each with their own responsibilities.... Then let's see how many commentary teams they have.
