Why would someone start their dynasty as a coordinator at a small school with an awful team?

So everything is not handed to them on a sliver platter. So they can actually simulate real life coaching hires; no one in their right mind is gonna fire Nick Saban so some unknown coach can come in and take over, etc. To give their coach some credentials and to have fun. I like starting at small schools, and sometimes I stay at small schools. I would stay more often if I could upgrade the team as a whole and not just players, things such as: stadiums, practice field, uniforms, coordinators.

I have played ncaa since back in the Bill Walsh college football days. I can easily say the most fun I have ever had was last year running a 1 star team online dynasty with coordinators spots only. I was the defensive coordinator of Kent State and barely made a bowl game (6-5). I nearly defeated Auburn and Penn State during the regular season. My defense was ranked in the top 5 and my ends led the nation in sacks. Offensively though we couldn't buy a TD. It is much more challenging and rewarding to have to earn wins imo.

It's by far the most fun way to play the game. Work your way up. Plus you get to play in conferences and against teams you normally wouldn't, In rivalries you would never play. Helps grow your college football knowledge haha. You get to build a program.

Yeah, the answer is pretty obvious...

For some of us, there's absolutely no fun in taking one of the best teams in the game to a championship. I love the challenge.

For me, it is not just for the Challenge. It is for the storyline/imagination/reallife part of it.

Starting off at a 1 star school as a OC/DC for 2-3 years. Then going to a 2-3 star school as a OC/DC for another 2-3 years. Then going for a HC job at a 3-4 star school to either use that as a another step to a 5-6 star school or stay there and build them into a 5-6 star school. I dont mind waiting 4-8 seasons until being a HC at a big school.

Nothing beats stealing at 4-5 star recruit from a powerhouse SEC playing as Vandy. I felt great snagging a 5 star local DE from schools like FLO, LSU, ALA as Vandy.

I have yet to try the Dynasty yet, but I'm interested in it. What is the major difference between being a coordinator and a head coach? Coordinator just recruits for defense or offense, HC does both?
