I'm never good at remembering this kind of stuff, how do protected rivalries affect the number of conference games? Is it 9 games if you have protected and 8 for unprotected or vise versa?

It depends on how many teams are in the conference. Tuscaloosa pointed out a good guide in that thread. Note, however, it is not entirely correct. I have a 14 team conference with protected rivals on. The guide says that would result in 8 conference games, but I get 9. I believe it is simply flip flopped (8 if OFF, 9 if ON), which is pointed out a few posts later.

I still have an issue with it. Arkansas' permanent east rival is Mizzou with 1 rotating east game, but I still get 9 games even if it's off.

Which game and which console? I've had this issue with NCAA 12 on PS3.

NCAA 14 on 360

I remember:

14 teams, no rival - 8 games
14 teams, rival - 9 games

12 teams, no rival - 9 games
12 teams, rival - 8 games

IMO, the SEC should always have rivals because of Tenn-Bama and Aub-UGA. Those games are American treasures.
