Re: How do you determine your starting kick and punt returner?

I look at my top players with highest Return rating; this rating modulates kick-off/punt catching ability. Then I base it on the highest Acceleration and Ball Carrier Vision ratings. When needed, I will use Break Tackle or Juke as weight.

KR - fastest guys that aren't a starter
PR - highest agility guy that isn't a starter

Fear of injury is more of a 'real life' risk, not so much in this game.

If you lower your injury ratings for your team, it will matter a lot.

I usually just make one of my lower rated recruit a career return man. It's a fun way to get a guy who may not see the field a ton on the field every game.

Re: How do you determine your starting kick and punt returner?

On kick returns I don't put back a starting RB or DB. Need my RB for the upcoming possession, and my DBs may be too gassed from the last drive to return. I don't mind putting back a top WR since I run the Option & don't throw it much. I look for speed, acceleration & elusiveness on KRs.

On punt returns I usually put back a WR, DB or speed RB, depending on who has the best hands. More than anything I look for elusiveness here since return blocking in this game isn't that great.

Another thing, I usually prefer to put a freshman or sophomore back to return. Utilizes their talents, helps to get them reps & experience, and preserves the health of key veterans.

Re: How do you determine your starting kick and punt returner?

As other I usually got with my fastest non starter on kick returns. For punts I usually do the same. I've only went away from this when I was building a bottom feeder then I would use the fastest regardless of if they were starting or not or if I had a player that I wanted to give a chance to win the Heisman just to get them extra touches

Especially for the punt returner, he needs good catch and carry ratings. Otherwise, you have a turnover waiting to happen. When in doubt, I call for a fair catch.

I typically always have a RSF Running back or Corner in those spots with the highest speed and acc rating. Typically they win the ROTY award every year.
