Re: Making dynasty mode feel more organic

Hey guys, I just created a dedicated thread for my Dynamic Dynasty app - so if there are questions/comments/suggestions for that let's put it there.

I am using both of them, Academic seems to work fine, but I am having issues w/ integrity. This is a gyazo of my QB's ratings.

I am rather certain he should not have a 99 NTG rating and the hashtags have me worried. Formula error or have I messed up something?

yeah it just adds authenticity & immersion. probably my favorite part of dynasty. so much better than having scott thomas as my RB, and every linebacker rocking a # in the 50’s.

i actually also do something gear wise by adding the QB wristband to all my starting LB’s (just something our LB coach did that in HS)... if you run hurry up could also add it to the entire offense.

Same here; I always put a QB wrist band on my MLBs.

Re: Making dynasty mode feel more organic

Something I've posted in other threads that I do once I reach the HC status in dynasty is that in year 1 I begin the season with 55 offensive plays. Each week I can add 1 play for every 2 days between games. Saturday to Saturday is 7 days, 3 new plays can be added. Bye weeks actually feel different now, so do short weeks. Bowl season allows you to add some creativity to your playbook much like real life. I may not run the wildcat all year, but by the bowl season my playbook may be where I want it for the most part so I may add a flea flicker, reverses, the wildcat, etc.

During the offseason I allow myself to add an additional 10 plays to the playbook on top of what I ended the season with ONLY if my starting QB returns. If my starter does not return, then the next starting QB gets 8 plays per year he's been in my system that stay in the playbook on top of the base 55. This leads to some decisions in some years. Starting QB went pro, graduated, etc? You have a top freshman coming in at 80 overall or a junior who is an 83 overall. Do you go with the freshman and a vanilla playbook or go with the junior who will have a 71 play playbook?

It depends on your schedule. First 4 weeks of the season look like an easy 4-0 no matter what? Might be smart to build for the future and let that freshman get his reps and build his playbook knowledge. Got a top team on the road in game 2 of the season? Starting that freshman may be a bad idea, especially if the rest of the team has the talent to take you far. The junior may be marginally better physically, but his knowledge of the system may be beneficial enough to be the difference in a win and a loss.

This system is something that is still sort of a work in process for me, but in the dynasties I've played with it, I had a blast. No more 300 play playbooks where I can find a play for nearly any situation. I distinctly remember in one dynasty I was in my first year as a head coach at a small school(forget which one at the moment), but I wanted to build a team that ran the ball with power. My first 55 plays were mostly heavy sets with some runs and PA off of it. I had a few shotgun plays built in, but not many. In creating that playbook and going a couple of weeks into the year I just completely overlooked adding in any plays for 3rd and long. I got too caught up in making a power run team that I never even thought about those close games where I need some yards in the air. It came back to bite me hard as I was down late one game and I had 3 or 4 plays to choose from the whole 4th quarter to try and gain significant yards in a hurry. Long story short I didn't even get into the red zone at the end of that game and I believe I ended up falling behind even more and getting blown out basically. What did I do that next week? Every play I could add went into a 2 minute offense type of deal which eventually paid dividends throughout conference play when games were tight late or I got behind the chains.

I am looking to do something like this on defense, but I can't nail down what I want to do. I've thought about taking the average class of my defense and figuring out my play count from that. Just taking the number of returning starters and seeing how many plays I keep from that. I can't decide at the moment, but I think it would add even more to the dynasty if I really had to think about what plays I wanted to add to my defensive playbook. I would be able to practice not only offense to see what plays work and what can be added into the playbook, but it'd allow me to experiment with my defense in practice against my opponents playbook and see what plays seem like they'll work and need to be added. It is a lot different having a handful of plays to add to your playbook when you're going against a triple option compared to just having the entire 4-3 playbook to choose from and finding something in game that works and using it. I want to run a sort of scout team offense session with my defense and see what plays work in practice and then see if their success is repeated in game. That will add somewhat of a scouting element to dynasty and make the X's and O's matter even more. It already does on offense. I like looking through the opposing team's roster and seeing they lack speed in their secondary and exploiting that with some new vertical passing plays I added. I can't tell you how satisfying it is to add a new wrinkle to your offense and see it work in a game. It is also frustrating to add a wrinkle and see it not work at all. I've seen both in my dynasties and I will definitely say it is a lot better to see these new plays work than fail. However, the disappointment I get from seeing my new plays fail still adds to the experience in a way I otherwise wouldn't get with the vanilla game. It is also even more satisfying when your team struggles in the red zone and you specifically add a few plays through the week for that and when you get into the red zone your next game and run a new play and score. Also, with these smaller playbooks and adding plays slowly, you'll realize that your offense takes on more of an identity than it ever did with the larger playbooks. I found myself noticing my tendencies both good and bad and being able to adapt as the season went on, some seasons better than others. If only the AI could adapt even better than it does now would this system really shine even more. It's still a blast for me to use and definitely keeps my dynasties organic as each team each year gets its own identity and I click better with some rosters that were less talented than I did when I got the team I was waiting for. It makes you appreciate a successful season more because I personally found it much harder and more realistic to win with these 'limitations' as I was limited in ways a real coach is on every game day.

This is great. I am going to implement this into a dynasty soon. I've never been big on custom playbooks, but this could give it meaning for me.

As for defense, you could pick a position that represents your "defensive quarterback" and base the playbook off of him in some way; whether its his number of years in the system, his performance from the previous year, or possibly his AWR rating. For Alabama, it seems like its typically the MLB, but Minkah pretty much runs things these days.

Making dynasty mode feel more organic

Trying to figure a way to incorporate satellite camps, I know I can't do it for other schools recruiting but I'm thinking it can be a way to maybe add a pipeline or recruit a state like Georgia. Still working on rules, I'm at West Virginia in my current dynasty, and the way it would work would be based on prestige. I'm not in front of the console, but I believe my team is currently 2 star. I wouldn't be allowed to run the "camps" until I reach 5 star prestige.

Right now I only allow myself to go after 2 or 3 players outside of pipelines every season but I'm thinking of using the "camps" to add two more players to that but only from that state I ran the camp in. The 2 players I add must have top 3 interest, as if they participated in the camp and built a rapport with coaches. The states can't be Florida, Ohio, California, Texas, Bama, Louisiana. These states are usually deeper with recruits. I try to limit recruits I get from these states already.

Re: Making dynasty mode feel more organic

Is it possible to edit where prospects sign to in the editor? I havent played NCAA in awhile and dont actually have it at school with me, but if it is possible, maybe make a list for all head coaches and their new schools, and then take a random number of their signed recruits and edit them to the head coaches new school? In real life head coaches bring their recruits to their new schools all the time and would definitely make dynasty mode more organic and realistic if it can be replicated.
