In the videogame, you will get a rogue skater spamming you for the puck, when in fact he should be getting off the ice. In the game you have goalies spitting the puck out in situations where its completely inadvisable. The goalie needs to ice the puck, and get the face-off. Not keep the play alive, which usually results in a offensive breakout. You see teams in real life cycle the puck and take shots that dont hit the net.
I agree. But all the other main sports games at least come close to playing like IRL. If the only way one gets realistic stats is by playing 6 minute periods then the AI is broken.

How many shots/game each for you and CPU? I would love to play 20 minute periods. Just don't like the crazy stats.

What are the scores like 18 to 16 lol. A big reason you cant play 20 minute periods and get realistic stats is because you have a lot of play by the boards in real life where time is going by and no one really has control of the punk to be able to really pass the punk and you don't really get that in the game. Also in real life way more passes are missed then in the game. I would like to play 20 because that is what they do in real life but cant get realistic stats at 20.

Re: Period length?

It used to be 7 min periods for me on on old gen. I tried 7 mins in NHL 16 and it just seemed like the periods were too long. I bumped it down to five and and it felt ok. Shot were 35-25 for the cpu in my NJ/BOS game.

I like quick games because I play offline BeAGM and I play half of my teams games and sim half.

Re: Period length?

Its funny to me how you can get realistic stats in every other sports game playing a full length game, except NHL.

Just goes to show how far away they actually are from a simulation standpoint

Re: Period length?

Six minutes for me this year with my slider settings. The regular game clock seems different this gen.

Re: Period length?

Played 16 minute periods last year and 14 this year. Shots on goal almost 50 which is unrealistic, but the score and penalty minutes are working perfectly fine for me, assuming ea has something in place to avoid to get lets say an 20 to 18 score by the end of a game. Goal save percentage in my case therefoe way to high but I play only season offline modus anyway

Re: Period length?

18 - 20 minute periods for me on "True Broadcast" camera angle. Shots are always high, it's just the nature of the beast because the game is designed to simulate three 20 minute periods down into three 5 minute periods, which is what most people play. You can however, keep scores down to a realistic level by adjusting your sliders accordingly (i.e. max goalies out, turn pass assist off, turn slap/wrist shot accuracies off, game speed lowered to 1 or 0, etc...).

Playing realistic period times is just something I prefer to do. I wouldn't play three innings of a baseball game and enjoy it. I love switching lines constantly, along with strategies according to how the game is playing out.

The sliders I'm having most difficulty with in NHL 16 are the fatigue sliders. Usually 12 - 13 minutes into a period none of my lines have any energy left. In years past I've always maxed out fatigue and lowered fatigue recovery to 0 but that's not working this year for any of my players.
