Re: So is it worth the purchase?

Just a heads up. It might be worth the purchase TODAY.

The game is $39.99 today at Amazon listed as their "Deal of the day" price.

40 bucks without the tuner might be worth the buy.

I just ordered my copy.

Bear in mind that without the tuner you might only get a couple of powerplays tops per game. The earliest tuner increased this to about 3-4 penalties per 7 minute period which was decent enough but unlike previous years you can't play with that tuner now. You play with the latest tuner which is as bad for offline as everybody says and does ruin things, or supposedly no tuner at all.

If you like playing at low game speed, you will need the patch which fixed the stuttering framerate when playing at one tick or zero on the slider. I was playing at three with the acceleration turned down very low as a stop-gap and seemed to get more deflections and scrappy goals pre-patch but that may be just my experience.

Oh, EA what a tangled web you weave

Re: So is it worth the purchase?

Myself being an offline person, also picked this up recently BUT haven't opened the packaging.

So let me get this straight, if I decide to keep the game, no updating to the latest tuner is best for offline game play correct?

If I update, this apparently ruins the offline game play? Am i correct on those statements?

1. Yes.

2. Yes. I only updated to the very latest tuner a few days ago and didn't think it would be as bad as more than a few posters were making out. I owe them an apology. It's worse! A phrase often mentioned is "jacked up gameplay" and that is the best way to describe it. The game changes from a passable simulation of hockey into some kind of arcadey, choppy mess.

And I take it once you update, there's no going back?

It's mentioned in another thread that you have the option to switch to the original version. May not be in the same menu as last year but it's suppossed to be there somewhere.
