To answer your question, you can be publicly critical but I cant go over the top nor would I want to. To be honest, I'm probably saying more than I should about the game to you all but EA is giving me a little leeway because I dont go too far.
okay. i just think your 'over the top' as a GC is different to a non-GC.

Re: More EA Sports UFC 5 Gameplay Today at 5PM ET

The pivoting left hook looks really nice, but overall I'm disappointed at how many of the same old animations we're still seeing and how similar to old animations most of the new ones look. I can't believe it's 2023 and I'm looking at the same stupidly wild overhand that no real fighter throws.

I don't know anything about game development, but I have to believe switching to the Frostbite engine took up a lot of time and resources. Otherwise it just doesn't make sense to me why we're getting charged $70 (at least) for what looks like the sort of 'next-gen' update that many other games have released for free.

I'd be curious to know how the devs feel about switching engines. Because as a player I'm unsure as to how a change in game engines benefits the game. Would we even notice any difference if they hadn't told us?

I'll give you an example:

I hate certain presentation decisions that the devs made. I've made it clear behind the scenes that I hate them. Loudly and consistently.

I cant speak to those decisions specifically in public yet because that news hasnt been released yet. Also, I cant use the language that I can use behind the scenes to express my dissaproval. That would be considered "over the top".

I'm also not that kind of guy. I'm not going to attack the team publically using the language that people here use. I'm not going to talk **** about devs personally. I'm not going to say they dont watch MMA when I know most of them do. I'm not going to call them "lazy" when they arent.

I also told yall I'm in a different place. This **** is a video game. Its a game I like to play but it aint the sort of thing that I get all riled up about. I provide advice to the devs on ways to improve the game. I'm happy when they listen to my advice but if they dont, I'm not losing sleep over it.

yeah, fair dude. i don't get super riled up over it either. i mean i'm particularly passionate about this game because i don't play many other games but i'm not losing sleep either. i did the same thing when UFC 4 came out. Said my piece, and left once the game came out and just didn't buy it. UFC 3 was genuinely a big improvement in the series though. yeah, not good to insult people. can agree there.

if they all are big MMA fans and this is the game that they've come up with yet again then that is very confusing to me. I would have thought they wouldn't even be satisfied with their own product then.

its worthless trying to attribute blame to any person or team or anything cause i have no idea what goes on behind the scenes. i just know their should be more effort being put in to make this game reflect the UFC... cause that's what the game is about.

referee interactions is something people were clamouring for when we were all playing UFC 3 (I never cared about it that much personally). Never did I think it'd be marketed as a big change for UFC 5 lol. If you've been here a long time I feel like the product they're putting out hits way worse to be fair. UFC 3 obviously gave us the wrong idea on the kind of changes they could make between each game. That one had less time than 4 and 5, but much better changes overall.

Re: EA Sports UFC 5 Gameplay Deep Dive Video with Martial Mind

At this point, I don't see an argument that they didn't change stuff.

They changed the core way damage impacts a fight, which completely revamps strategies for a fight IMO.

Now, does it work effectively? Can't tell from a video. But I know dev work like that is a significant undertaking.

If they had focused all the energy on simply adding animations, without changing how they impact the fight, you'd still be playing the same game but with different window dressing.

I'm seeing a lot of folks here that dont understand "Root Cause, Surface Problem" problem solving techniques.

I'm seeing a lot of people complain about Surface Problems.

I saw a decent number of potential Root Cause solutions during that walkthrough.
