Hey wwharton!
Neither do I including a lot of NFL2kers around here.
I must admit that I was one of those critics, complaining that there will not be a generic title released this year. But then I had a conversation with my contact at ( ). She/He opened my eyes to the labor-intensive task ahead of them to make a generic football game thoroughly customizable. This sort of task cannot be done in less than 6 months. That said, the extra year of development time will have to be conceded.
Well, it is even more annoying when you have a lot of NFL2kers complaining about a certain aspect of that current year's NFL2k, and it STILL does not get addressed for the following year's. I do know what you are saying though.
Doesn't happen? No that won't surprise me either. Illegal? This is an impossibility. Take Two, I am certain, has a legal department that makes sure they are out of litigation hell when they make this new generic pro football title. Financially beneficial? If it wasn't, the game would not get produced. Not possible? If the basis for this new type of gaming is solid, allowing us to customize to the limit of our own imagination, then I don't think there is a lot that isn't possible.
