a cable modem typically consumes 7 watts... even if you left it on 24/7/365 & were paying the highest electric rate of 14 cents per kWh (some parts of the country are as low as 5 cents)...

...that would still cost you less than 9 bucks a year

That's definitely cheap but my main concern is that it wouldnt be plugged into anything. I shutdown my laptop and unplug it so I can put it bak in the box since I dont want to take any chances of anything happening to it when im not home.

I'll probably just keep doing what im doing. But thanks for the help guys.
