This video of TO is much, much better than the junk that Sega used to us as TV commercials. (Those Tracy Morgan ones were terrible.) I remember reading last year that VC had partnered up with the same company that does commercials for ESPN, and maybe it took them until this year to come up with something good. The new running animations and cut scenes and improvements to FPM, combined with some quality commercials, all could do a helluva lot to really increase sales of ESPN, IMO.
It was also a nice move to not be so tight-lipped about its game this year. Usually VC never releases this much quality info about the game until E3 (or sometimes much later, like FPM last year). By then, a lot of Madden fans already have their mind made up. I know the reason why VC always did this..so the competition would have less time to copy their ideas. But be honest..if EA adds First Person mode to Madden, everyone will still remember where it came from anyways. (Same way I'll always associate "Read 'n Lead passing" with Fever). If I'm Sega, I'd be out pimping everything from the new XBox graphics to the improvements in FPM and Franchise and the Draft as much and as early as possible. By starting early, before the Madden blitz takes over in July, they may have a chance of getting a few more people to try their game. And if history shows anything, it's that once someone plays ESPN with an open mind, its hard for them to not come back. I think just about every ESPN fan on this board was at one time (or maybe still is) a big fan of Madden. But VC's been heading towards absolute greatness for about 5-6 years now, ever since the first 2k came out on the DC, and this year they may have pulled it off.
If they did, I hope that they advertise the hell out of the game. And this commercial is a great way to start, IMO.
Couldn't agree with you more.
