Anthony Kincy Wins NCAA Award; Kincy And Darius Rosser Named 1st Team NCAA All Americans

Jonesboro - Coming off a season where he had over one thousand kick returning yards, Arkansas State RB Anthony Kincy was named the Best Returner in the NCAA. Kincy who had 5 returns for TDs, was all smiles as he took home the award, later being informed that he along with team mate Darius Rosser were named to the 1st Team All Americans in the NCAA.

Rosser, one of the best players in the nation, led the NCAA with 13 sacks.

Jim Leavitt Named FIU Head Coach

Jonesboro - In what was an expected move after he led The Red Wolves Defense to an incredible season, Arkansas State Defensive Coordinator Jim Leavitt was named the new Head Coach at FIU, who had fired Mario Cristobal.

Leavitt will inherit a FIU team that went 3-9 last season. For Leavitt, this is a welcomed second chance, after he built the USF Football Team from the ground up.

Leavitt went 95-57 leading the Bulls, however he was fired after the 2009 season after he lied about shoving and slapping a player during halftime of a game.

"I want to thank the University and Coach Cameron, who gave me this chance to come back and lead young men." Leavitt said.

Now the search will begin for a new Defensive Coordinator.

Arkansas State Fires Offensive Coordinator Tee Martin

Jonesboro - Two days after Jim Leavitt accepted the job at FIU, Arkansas State decided to fire Offensive Coordinator Tee Martin, and most of the offensive staff.

"We want to thank Coach Martin and all the coaching staff for their hard work during this season, but after evaluating all aspects of the program, we came to the conclusion that this wasn't the best fit for the team. We feel confident that they will all be coaching in some form for years to come." Coach Cameron said.

In a highly unusual move, the first year Head Coach will now be tasked with finding coordinators on both sides of the ball, after only a year together.

"I value stability. It leads to growth." Coach Cameron said. "However, with Leavitt leaving, we could hit a reset with both coordinators."

Fired along with OC Tee Martin re QB Coach Wayne Garrison, RB Coach Hardy McClure, WR Coach Kellen Cox, and TE Coach Tyji Armstrong.

The offensive struggled to find it's identity this year, with QB Ryan Aplin struggling. His 20 TD passes were a single season record for the team, however he threw 21 interceptions.

The running game was largely inconsistent. Anthony Kincy led the team with only 877 yards.

DeKeathan Williams was expected to electrify the passing game, however the Senior only pulled down 36 passes, which was 2nd on the team. He did come on late in the year, ending the season with 8 TDs. However, on the whole, the WR corps were maddening with a combined 25 drops.

The only offensive coach to survive is OL Coach Greg Frey, who helped Sophomore Alan Wright secure a nod as a 1st Team All Sun Belt player. Wright is going to be an anchor for the team moving forward, and Coach Cameron wanted to keep continuity with the OL coaching staff.


The question for the team, as we head into the coaching carousel is who will be on the coaching staff next year.

Arkansas State Rounds Out Staff; Hires Offensive And Defensive Coordinators

Jonesboro - Arkansas State Head Coach Jason Cameron finalized his coaching staff heading into the 2012 season.



On the Offensive side, the Red Wolves hired former Central Michigan Head Coach Dan Enos, who was fired two weeks ago, after leading the Chippewas to a 6-6 record. Enos, 44, will be tasked with maximizing QB Ryan Aplin's potential. Prior to his 2 year run at Central Michigan, Enos coached QBs and RBs at Michigan State as well as spending a year as the QB Coach at the University of Cincinatti.

Rounding out the assistants on the offensive side of the ball, the team announced the hirings of QB Coach Jedd Fisch, who spent last year as an offensive assistant at the University of Miami, RB Coach Steve Logan previously the RB Coach with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, WR Coach Fred Graves, who coached last year at Noth Carolina, and TE Coach Mike Sanford, who was the TE Coach at Louisville last year.



The team also announced the hiring of Defensive Coordinator Dan McCarney, who was fired after only one season as the Head Coach at North Texas. McCarney went 4-4 in his only season at North Texas, has spent time on the USF Staff with Head Coach Cameron, and that familiarity was a huge plus for Cameron.

"He knows the Defense we like to run, and helped (former DC) Jim Leavitt in coming up with some core concepts, especially along the front four.

McCarney, 59, has extensive experience coaching in the NCAA, spending time with Iowa, Wisconsin, and Florida coaching the DL. He also spent 12 years as the Head Coach at Iowa State, racking up a 59-85 record.

The rest of the defensive staff will remain intact.

In addition to the coaches that have been hired, Coach Cameron announced that graduating Seniors FS Don Jones, SS Brock Barnhill, and MLB Cade Oliver have been brought into the staff as Graduate Assistants.

Barnhill and Jones will be helping with the defensive backfield, while Oliver will be assisting Special Teams Coach Bob Casullo.

"Brock, Don, and Cade remind me of myself. All three were unselfish team players, who studied their butts off in the classroom. All three of these guys exhibit the qualities that are required to become successful coaches, and we are excited to have them on our staff." Coach Cameron said.

Arkansas State RB Kendrick Daniels Arrested On Sexual Assualt Charges; 2 Other Red Wolves Players Arrested In Connection With Alleged Assault

Jonesboro, AR - After a late night, booze filled party, 3 Arkansas State players have been arrested after an alleged attack of a female student.

RB Kendrick Daniels, who is set to graduate in the Spring, has been arrested after he allegedly brought a drunk student back to his room, locked the door, and sexually assaulted her.

The female student said that Daniels, who rushed for 352 yards and scored 3 TDs this season, refused to let her leave until she performed oral sex on her.

She also told police that Daniels' teammates starting Fullback Kenneth Rains and junior WR Kelsey Collins were present in the room and filmed the attack.

University police attempted to retrieve the video, but before being questioned Collins deleted the video off his phone.

All three will be arraigned on Tuesday.

Rains, who started for the team, rushing for 3 yards and scoring one TD and Collins, who caught 2 passes for 20 yards will be meeting with school officials where they are likely to be kicked off the team.

"I am highly disappointed by the actions of these men." Head Coach Jason Cameron said.

"On my recommendation, we will be severing ties with both Kenneth Rains and Kelsey Collins. We can't do much to discipline Kendrick, as he was a Senior. However, I am going to be pushing for the maximum punishment that we can doll out as an institution."

Air Force FS Transfers To Arkansas State

Jonesboro, AR - The Arkansas State Red Wolves announced that they have secured the services of FS Lorenzo High, who is transferring from Air Force.

With only Jonathan Victorian returning to the FS position, the arrival of High is a welcome addition to the backfield.

"Lorenzo is a high motor guy, with great leadership skills. Once he becomes eligible, he is going to take charge of the DB room." New DC Don McCarney said.

High, a sophomore, had 2 tackles last year.

With Victorian, who sat out last year, the only FS on the roster, the team is planning on moving CB Terrious Triplett to FS to compete with Victorian during the Spring.
