    New Era at UW

Coach Fisch Leads Roster with Heavy Turnover into the B1G

Seattle - After one of the greatest seasons in program history that saw an undefeated regular season, Pac-12 Championship, Sugar Bowl victory, and a National Championship runner up, the Washington Huskies embark on a whole new direction for the program. Former coach Kalen DeBoer bolted the school shortly after the Championship game leaving a team who saw much of its roster head to the NFL, and uncertainty heading into a new conference in the Big Ten. In stepped Jedd Fisch who will attempt to lead the program back to the heights achieved recently. He will have some work to do however with a suddenly young, and inexperienced roster heading into what may be the deepest conference in NCAA history. Here's the team and schedule heading into the 2024 season.

    Can Georgia Bounce Back?

After a disappointing season that saw them miss the college football playoff Georgia is back ranked at #1 to start the season. With 12 teams now making the playoff the prospects of missing a shot a national championship seem like much less of a possibility. However there is an opportunity for many teams to make the postseason tournament now, and winning a National Title will require going through at least three top teams to win it all. For a good look at who may be vying for those twelve spots here is the preseason top-25

    On the Recruiting Trail

Coach Fisch has hit the ground running recruiting in state for the Huskies, and this week landed the #6 recruit in the state, 3-star WR Wes Parrish (#480 NAT, 6 ST, 71 WR) out of Highline High School in Burien, WA. Parrish verbally commited as soon as he was offered a scholarship, confirming his desire to stay close to home and play for his hometown school.

Despite Mistakes Huskies Cruise to Easy Opening Win

Giles Jackson returns the first punt of the season for a 61 Yd score

Seattle - The first game of the Jedd Fisch era appeared sloppy at times, but in the end the Huskies were simply way too much for their counterparts from the FCS as Washington cruised to a 52-25 win over the Weber State Wildcats on Saturday. The Huskies will definitely have some things to clean up going into next week after putting the ball on the ground and turning it over on fumbles three times in this one. There were some pass protection mistakes made as well that resulted in a couple clean hits on quarterback Will Rogers, one of which knocked him out of the game for a brief period. On defense the Huskies were stout sacking Quarterback Austin Chaney eight times while forcing five turnovers, including two interceptions by Elijah Jackson, one of which he took to the house to open up the lead big in the second quarter. The Huskies will now turn their focus ahead to Eastern Michigan next Saturday back at Husky Stadium.

        Week 1 Recap

Georgia Escapes with Win in College Football Kickoff

Atlanta - Carson Beck threw for 331 yards as the #1 ranked Georgia Bulldogs opened the season by outlasting the #17 Clemson Tigers 42-32 in the Aflac College Football kickoff in Atlanta. Trevor Etienne was big on the ground for Georgia in this one as well going for 98 yards and two scores. The Bulldogs needed every bit of it as their normally solid defense was tested by the Tigers. AP Top 25 Poll

There wasn't too much movement in the Top 25 this week as most favorites held serve, but a couple top ten teams losing on the road did allow some teams to move up the polls. Preseason #11 Florida State fell completely out of the Top 25 this week after a disatrous 0-2 start in the conference, while Washington, and Auburn made their way into the Top 25 for the second week of the season.

Huskies Battle Through Rain to Take Down Eastern Michigan

Makell Esteen intercepts Cole Snyder in the 4th Quarter

Seattle - It was a slow start at Husky Stadium on Saturday night as driving rain slowed down both offenses for much of the game, but the Huskies were able to pull away in the fourth quarter thanks to a big play on defense, and ended up with a 31-14 win over the Eastern Michigan Eagles. The Huskies went up 14-0 in the second quarter, and were pitching a shutout for most of the first half until EMU scored right before halftime to cut it to 14-7 at the break. The game was tight throughout the second half, as the Eagles kept it close and were driving until Makell Esteen made the play of the game, picking off EMU quarterback Cole Snyder, and returning it 65 yards for a touchdown that finally put the game away for the Huskies. Washington is now 2-0 and figures to move up a few spots in the polls after some of the upsets in the top 25 this week.

              Week 2 Recap

              Michigan Makes Statement Over Longhorns

Ann Arbor - The Michigan Wolverines don't look ready to give up the moniker of champion just yet. Donovan Edwards rushed for 111 yards and the Wolverine defense had Quinn Ewers in check for much of the day as they cruised to a 37-16 win over the Texas Longhorns at Michigan Stadium on Saturday. While the loss far from eliminates Texas from competing for a title this season it was a wake up call for a Longhorn team that had high hopes coming into the year. Michigan meanwhile showed that despite the loss of Jim Harbaugh and some key players from their championship squad a year ago that they will very much still be a force to deal with in the College Football Playoff picture this season. Here's how the rest of the Top 25 fared in the second full week of action:

New Team at the Top as Polls See Shakeup

A dominant win over a top 3 team was enough for voters to put the defending champs back at the top of the AP Top 25. Michigan soared all the way to #1 after their impressive win over Texas last week, and are firmly in position to defend their crown. There was a lot of movement around the polls this week after a number of top 25 teams tasted defeat with four new teams entering the Top 25 for week 3.

                On the Recruiting Trail

The Huskies have reportedly scheduled three official visits in the past week for top recruits as recruiting season really begins to hit its stride. 4-star LB Quincey Buggs (#90 NAT, #4 CA, #5 LB), 3-star ATH Mafu Mauia (#500 NAT, #2 HI, #27 ATH), and 4-star QB John Godwin (#39 NAT, #1 OR, #4 QB) have all reportedly commited to a visit to the campus in upcoming weeks.

Mistakes Doom Huskies as Cougs Take Apple Cup

John Mateer delivers a Touchdown pass under pressure in the second half.

Seattle - After a solid first half everything came apart after halftime for the Huskies on Saturday night. Will Rogers threw three interceptions, and John Mateer was dynamic throwing for four touchdowns as the Washington defense could not hold up to the constant pressure of short fields, and the Cougars got a 39-28 upset win over their former PAC-12 counterparts in the Apple Cup. It was a huge win for Washington State university who felt spurned after their in state rivals bolted for greener pastures in the Big Ten leaving the Cougars with Oregon State fending for themselves going forward. A win like this could show a bigger conference that the Cougars are worth taking on going forward. Meanwhile this is a set back for a Washington program taking on a relaunch after a national title game run, and a switch to a new conference which they'll begin play in next week.

                      Week 3 Recap

Kansas State Outlasts Arizona in OT Thriller

Manhattan - A game that was ho hum threw three quarters erupted with excitement in the fourth. Kansas State went into the fourth quarter trailing 17-9, but then the fireworks came as the two teams erupted for five scores with Kansas State coming all the way back on the back of DJ Giddens who went for 175 yards, and a touchdown to tie things up 30-30 at the end of regulation. After Kansas State scored again in the opening possession of overtime they finally held up on defense with a big fourth down stop that sent Bill Snyder Family Field into a frenzy as they capped the comeback win in overtime to win 37-30 over their new conference rivals. Here's the rest of the results from a wild week in the top 25:

                        Week 4 Preview vs. Northwestern

Seattle - The Huskies will begin their first ever voyage into Big Ten conference play as they host the upstart Northwestern Wildcats on Saturday. The Wildcats have come out of the gates firing on all cylinders on offense which comes to the surprise of many pundits around the country. Coupled with the defense that most agreed would be strong Northwestern looks like a force to be reckoned with this season, and it will be no easy task for the Huskies to pick up their first ever Big Ten conference win, and avoid a second straight loss. The game kicks off at 7:00 PM PST from Husky Stadium.

Kickoff is at Noon EST from Michigan Stadium. Here's where the rest of the Top 25 will be doing battle this week:

Huskies Hold On for First Big Ten Win

Will Rogers lines up for a snap during Washington's win on Saturday.

Seattle - Will Rogers threw for 372 yards, and Kamren Fabiculanan came up with the big defensive play late as the Washington Huskies outlasted the Northwestern Wildcats 30-24 on Saturday for their first conference win in the new look Big Ten. Washington never trailed in the contest going up 13-0 in the first quarter before Northwestern was able was able to punch it in before the break. Washington answered in the second half with two touchdowns to push the lead to 27-14, but Northwestern answered in the fourth to cut the lead to a single score. The two teams then traded field goals, but Northwestern got the ball with a chance under two minutes left before Fabiculanan picked off Mike Wright to seal the game for the Huskies. The win moved Washington to 3-1 overall on the season, and we'll have to wait, and see if it was enough to push them back into the Top 25 when the rankings come out tomorrow.

These long road trips are part of the deal now that the Huskies have joined the Big Ten, and it will make for a tough test against an improved Rutgers squad under coach Greg Schiano. Gameday Heads to Tuscaloosa for Huge SEC Showdown

Tuscaloosa - There was little debate where Gameday was headed this week when the schedule came out as Georgia and Alabama will once again do battle for an early claim to SEC Supremacy. Georgia will be looking for payback after Alabama's upset win in the SEC championship kept Georgia out of the College Football Playoff last season, and while a loss here will far from doom either team's chances. A first round bye could very well hang in the balance depending on how the rest of the season shakes out for the two schools. Kickoff will be at 3:30 PM EST from Bryant-Denny Stadium. Here's the rest of the Top 25 matchups for this week:

There wasn't much movement at the top this week as most of the teams in the Top 25 held serve after a week of upsets prior. We did get three new teams entering the poll including the surprising Maryland Terrapins who have started the season 4-0. Here's how the poll shook out this week.

Now one month into the season some of the contenders for the Heisman Trophy have begun to emerge, but preseason favorite Carson Beck still leads our list for the Nation's top individual award, and he'll have a big chance to cement his status with a good showing on the road in Tuscaloosa this week.
