LEFT - The Fighting Irish came out true to their name, intercepting Miller Moss on the first offensive play to put Notre Dame on top early. Moss was able to put the early miscues behind him, finishing the day with 428 yards and 4 touchdowns.
CENTER - While USC was able to withstand the miscues from Moss, Notre Dame was crippled by Leonard's. Already down 28-14 Leonard was picked off to setup a Lake McRee touchdown giving USC a 35-14 lead before the break.
RIGHT - Riley Leonard went toe to toe with Miller Moss for most of the 1st half completing 19 of 24 passes, but as the Trojans high-octane offense kept scoring the pressure seemingly got to Leonard, who threw a costly interception to close the half then followed that up with a 12/23 performance with another interception in the 2nd half.
Los Angeles, CA. - For Trojans fans, it must have felt like de ja vu after watching the Fighting Irish pickoff Miller Moss' first pass attempt of the day.
"He wasn't fazed, not in the least," remarked Coach Red when asked about Miller Moss' demeanor after the interception.
"I went to talk to him to see where he was at mentally after the first play. I didn't need to," continued the head coach.
"He just had a look on his face that said "I got this." About the time I went to talk to him Leonard had just found Greathouse for the touchdown. He simply nodded his head, looked over at me and said "back at it huh coach?"."
Back at it indeed.
Moss would complete 21 of his next 28 passes, including a string of 14 consecutive passes to close out the 2nd quarter with a commanding 35-17 lead.
After capitalizing on the great field position to start the game Notre Dame struggled to match the Trojans intensity offensively and quickly feel behind 21-7.
Leonard would finally answer the bell leading the Fighting Irish on a masterful 12 play drive to cut the deficit to 7 points with just over 2 minutes left.
But then USC did USC things with Miller Moss finding a wide open Zachariah Branch, who was tackled at the 12 yard line after having to slowdown to catch the bomb from Moss, then Treyvion O'Neal rolling in for a touchdown to push the lead back to double digits.
Riley Leonard had started to feel the pressure the Southern Cal offense put on the opposition, and once that pressure starts to set in the Trojans defense plays their best ball.
Leonard was sacked on 1st down, then made his first mistake of the game throwing a duck across his body that safety Kamari Ramsey happily plucked.
Just one play later Lake McRee rumbled into the endzone and the Trojans were celebrating.
"You can't make excuses and in no way am I putting blame or pointing fingers, but when you feel like you have to score every time you have the ball it gets exhausting," confessed Fighting Irish senior quarterback Riley Leonard when asked about the difficulties keeping pace with USC and Miller Moss.
The Fighting Irish came out of the half hoping to start to chip away, but once they got to midfield the Trojans clamped down once again and forced a long 57 yard field goal.
Then Miller Moss and Co called game, executing a 14 play drive that ate up nearly 5 minutes of the 3rd quarter before ultimately punching it in with Moss' 4th touchdown toss of the day.
With the Jeweled Sheilagh back in their possession the Trojans focus will now turn to the scoreboard, needing exponential help from other Big Ten programs to have an outside shot at playing for the Big Ten title in their inaugural season.
Regardless of how the Big Ten conference shakes out, with another victory over a ranked opponent at the very least USC has firmly planted their sword into the table for the college football playoff.

Zachariah Branch Runs Away With Heisman
Los Angeles, CA. - Zachariah Branch had a historic season for the USC Trojans in 2024, setting new records for both receiving yardage in a season (2,626) and receiving touchdowns (34) which had stood since 1998 and 1999 respectively.
He ended it by being the 9th Trojan to ever win the Heisman, along with the 4th wideout to receive the award, doing so with the 5th highest percentage of the vote coming in at just over 90%.
"You come to USC and you walk the halls. You see pictures of guys like Reggie[Bush] and Carson[Palmer], you know the history here. A lot of guys come here with the hope of one day being mentioned with those guys," began Branch after accepting the 91st Heisman Trophy.
"And now I get to be on that wall with those guys. It really hasn't sunk in yet."
While quarterbacks Dillion Gabriel and Jackson Dart made late pushes to finish 2nd and 3rd in the final Heisman vote, it had been clear as the season progressed who was going to win the award.
Here are a few more stats to put Branch's historic season into perspective:
Branch had more RAC yards (1,440) than the 2nd place total yardage holder (Kole Wilson with 1,389).
Branch scored a touchdown in all 12 of the Trojans games this season.
Branch scored multiple touchdowns in 11 of the Trojans game this season.
If Branch's touchdowns were all quarterback Miller Moss had on the season, he would still rank 15th in the nation in touchdowns.
While speaking to the media after the ceremony, Branch was quick to point out that while grateful for the award it wouldn't define how he viewed this season in Los Angeles.
"We've still got work to do. We began this year with the goal of bringing a Championship back to SC and once tonight is over its back to work.
"Like Kobe said, Jobs not finished."
While Branch was emphatic about the Trojans still having work to do, it did not stop him from poking some fun at former teammate Caleb Williams as well.
"I haven't had time to check my phone, but I know Caleb's in there somewhere sending me congrats with everyone else.
"First thing I'm going to tell him? He may have one, but imma go out and get a 2nd," laughed Branch.

Early National Signing Day
Los Angeles, CA. - Right now it seems hard to believe, but a mere 10 months ago the sky seemed like it was falling in Los Angeles.
Now, not only are the USC Trojans making the College Football Playoff for the first time, they are on the verge of signing their best recruiting class since being ranked #1 overall with the 2015 class.
"We know this is just the beginning. We've put in a lot of work on and off the field, but everyone knows the job is never finished with being a college head coach," commented Coach Kyle Red.
"Winning the recruiting trail does not always equate to winning titles. We love the quality of guys we have coming to campus next year, but the focus right now is getting our first College Football Playoff win," finished the first year head coach.

Game Notes
University Park, PA. - When the USC Trojans hosted the Penn State Nittany Lions back in Week 7 both teams were coming off hot 4-1 starts behind an upstart offense and a boom-or-bust defense.
It was the Trojans that went bust on the day though, with Miller Moss throwing 3 pick-6s to help the Nittany Lions build a 35-0 lead before halftime in what would eventually be a 45-28 stomping at The Coliseum.
"I can't lie and say it hasn't crossed my mind," revealed Miller Moss to the media when asked if he'd thought about the possible redemption story if he can lead the Trojans over Penn State in the first round of the college football playoff.
"But that isn't something you can focus on if you want to actually win the game," continued the redshirt junior.
"If I throw 3 picks again, but this time we win? I'll take it every time."
The televisions and remote controls of Trojan fans everywhere would appreciate if Moss refrained from repeating his 3 interception performance.
But all kidding aside, if the Trojans want to advance to the quarter finals of the college football playoff, it starts with ball security.
They were already embarrassed at home by these same Nittany Lions and now they're playing them in unfamiliar territory at Beaver Stadium.
If Miller Moss can lead the Trojans into the lions den and escape unscathed, he'll have his redemption story.
