GAME RECAP

Turnovers and Drop Pass's doomed the Buckeyes in the 2nd half as #8 Seed Alabama pulls off the upset handing #1 Seed Ohio State their first loss of the season and knocking the Buckeyes out of the playoffs..

Ohio State trailed at the end of the 1st Quarter and with 1:06 to play in the 2nd Quarter found themselves trailing 28-14, but 96 yd Kickoff return by D'Angelo Lowe brought life back to the Buckeye sideline..

Alabama rather then just running out the clock goes to the air and SO SS Greg Robinson makes SR QB Juan Atwood pay as he picks off the pass and returns it to the 5 yd line to set up Fredrick Tam's 24th TD of the season as Ohio State ties the game (28-28) as we headed to the locker room.

Ohio State started the 2nd half with the ball but 3 straight drop pass's would force a punt and Alabama never looked back as the Tide take the lead on a 69 yd TD pass from Atwood to Kyree Tolson to make it (35-28)..

Freshman QB Nick De La Rosa would then throw back to back INT's with the first one setting up a 1 yd TD run by Matt Cargile to make it (42-28) and then INT #2 turns into a "Pick 6" as CB Mitch Qualls takes it 48 yds to the house to make it (49-28) as we head into the 4th.

Drop passes continued to plague the Buckeyes receivers.. OSU would have 9 total drop pass' on the day including 3 by JR Nick Tull on wide open throws down the sideline that could've been scores.

Coach Miller
Quote:
"It was tough to watch.. I can't remember the last time I have seen so many drop pass's.. You can't win games like that.. It forced way to many long 3rd downs and several 4th downs that we were just unable to convert"

Redshirt Freshman Gabe Cobb (2 drops) would manage to hold onto a bomb over the middle and take it 49 yds to the house to make it (49-35) with just over 7 minutes to play in the game but Alabama did a great job milking the clock with a 12 play drive before settling on a 41 yd FG with 3:43 to play to make it a 3 score game.

De La Rosa would throw a 3rd INT in the final minute of the game never giving up..

With Ohio State out of the playoffs, fan's won't be able to see a Ohio State/FIU matchup for a 2nd year in a row, but on the bright side with the Buckeyes out of the playoffs, FIU could now be considered a favorite to repeat ..

GAME RECAP

Once again the Panthers Defense comes up big when they needed it most, as FIU picks off Notre Dame JR QB Bruce Louis 3 times in the game including 2 in the 4th quarter to seal their 30th straight win dating back to last year's perfect 16-0 record as they move to 14-0 on the season.

On paper one would think the Irish won the game as they had higher Total Yards, more 1st Downs and a better TOP, but the 3 turnovers were the killer.

Well Kevin Pounds 239 yds and 3 TD's don't look that impressive his 22/28 day showcased the JR QB making sure to not force the play when it wasn't there. Notre Dame's rush Defense played the Panther run game the best that anyone has done all year holding FIU to a season low 63 yds on the ground but at the end of the day there is really only 2 #'s that matter.. The Final Score and FIU's was 10 more then the Irish..

OTHER 2ND ROUND RESULTS

#4 Oklahoma survived the upset bid by #12 Virginia Tech beating the Hokies (35-30) in the Sugar Bowl to advance for matchup against #8 Alabama

The Sooners beat the Tide (29-17) back in Week 8 and will look to try and do it again as they will meet in the Fiesta Bowl.

#3 Kansas State holds on to beat #6 Washington (31-29) in the Orange Bowl after the Huskies fail to convert the 2pt play to tie the game and force Overtime.

The Wildcats will now Advance to take on FIU in the Peach Bowl..

**This year's National Championship game will be played at SoFi Stadium in Inglewood CA.

Man I'd like to say I didn't see that loss coming, but the CPU loves some Alabama shennanigans. Not looking forward to that every year with Georgia lol

At least FIU kept the hope alive. Kansas State is always solid, but I think FIU will have the edge

TIDE EARNS TRIP TO THE NATTY!!

#8 Seed made the most of their upset win over Ohio State by getting revenge on #4 Seed Oklahoma winning the Fiesta Bowl to earn the chance to play FIU in the National Championship.

The Tide led at the half (10-7) and extended the lead to (17-10) going into the 4th before tacking on 2 more scores for the (31-10) victory.

Atwood threw for 310 yds with 3 TD in the win. Alabama ran for 118 yds on the ground as well.

They cam oit on fire. Atwood (QB) was 9 of his first 10 pass's and my WR's couldn't hold onto the ball. It was rough. I should've just trusted my run game but once I got behind in the 3rd Quarter I stopped running and that was my downfall.

GAME RECAP

The FIU Panthers have done it.. Coach Valdez and OC Clayton Dees have done something Coach Matt Miller never did.. They have won back to back Natty's well going a perfect 32-0, giving FIU their 4th National Championship in the past 8 years.

Alabama opened the game with the ball and quickly settled for a 41 yd FG to make it 3-0 and after that it was all FIU, as QB Kevin Pounds throws (2) 1st Half TD's in a Defensive battle to give the Panthers the (14-3) lead at the half.

FIU opened up the 2nd half with the ball and despite struggling to move the ball much on the ground did manage a 11 play drive ending with a 2 yd TD run by Tim Trinidad (his 15th of the season) to make it (21-3).

The Panther Defense continued to confused Alabama QB James Atwood all day as SR Tyreke Harmon picks off a pass to keep it (21-3) heading into the 4th.

Midway through the 4th still leading (21-3) Alabama shocked everyone as the Tide drop back to punt despite trailing with 6 minutes to play. As the FIU Offense came out to start on their own 11 yd line, it was then Panther fan's who were shocked as #5 (KP) was not the one leading the charge but instead was SR QB Byron Ingram.

Ingram 7/10 for 148 yds with 1 TD and 1 INT on the season with most of that coming on Senior Day has been a 4 year backup who has seen very limited PT. (Before this season he had completed 2/4 pass's for 27 yds with 1 INT). But KP new it was time to honor the him with a chance to play on the biggest stage in college football and Ingram responded with a almost perfect drive completing 8/10 pass's for 89 yds including a 16 yd TD pass to TE Eric Longo as FIU took the (28-3) lead with 2:12 to play.

Alabama limited to just 7 yds on the ground and only 160 through the air would manage to go on a 84 yd drive of their own to close out the game as Atwood connects on a 57 yd bomb to JR Andres Bravo to make it (28-10) with 1:40 to play but a failed onside kick allows FIU to just run out the clock.
