Re: 2024, Game Two at Vanderbilt

Turnovers the difference there, never good to outgain a team and still lose by 40, haha. Growing pains in season one for sure.

What moose said. It's promising that you were able to outgain a Power 4 opponent (even one as lowly as Vanderbilt), but the talent isn't there yet to stay competitive with so many mistakes.

you had em in the 1st half against Wisconsin....rough day for the QB against Vandy. happens to the best of us, get down big early and start pressing to make some big plays. North Texas is a tough opponent, but with the yards you've been putting up if you should be able to give them a challenge

That's inflated because of the two pick sixes. They didn't have the ball for like 6 straight minutes because they'd score than we'd get the ball back

So I won't get too excited about the box scores, but there is some talent at necessary spots. Unfortunatrly, offensive line isn't one of them haha.

Yep, when you expect to make some plays in the clutch of time, but then things go horribly wrong. Happens more often than I'd care to admit.

I'm pretty worried about North Texas. Hopefully the yards we put up can come at a time when we aren't losing by two scores already!

From the get-go, the North Texas Mean Green did whatever they wanted against the Newport Falcons, winning handily, 37-10, at home.

However, at first, the Falcons did make North Texas earn it, instilling a bend, but don’t break defense knocking out two sacks in North Texas’ first two drives which resulted in a scoreless game until around the final minute of the first quarter when NT quarterback Chandler Morris found DT Sheffield in the flat and he made a few moves right passed the Falcon secondary for six.

Newport did their best to answer but were only able to muster a 52-yard field goal from Ian Wells. Quarterback Matt Kadish did his best to drive downfield, but his offensive line was no match fo the Mean Green front seven. North Texas would score 13 unanswered from there, taking a 20-3 lead into halftime.

To open the second half, Newport again was able to make some plays and get downfield. This all came to an end when Kadish pressed the wrong button and threw a seed right to North Texas FS BJ Allen Jr, instead of his own receiver Kyaire Harding. North Texas Turned that into a steady drive, milking several minutes off the clock before a Morris found Damon Ward Jr. for a 4-yard touchdown.

Newport was held to just their field goal until their final drive of the game, when the backups wer ein trying to make something happen. Backup Jasiah Wade had no issues move the ball against the Mean Green subs, connecting on several passes before ultimately finding do-it-all back, Kam Bowens for a 10-yard touchdown which would lead us to the final score of 37-10.

While Newport registered 3 sacks in the game and North Texas had none, the hosts front seven caused havoc all day in the backfield, resulting in tackles for loss and plenty of rushed throws. It was a tough day for Falcon faithful. They will get to see this train wreck in person for the first time in Week 5, when they welcome American opponent Army.

The Army Black Knights fought back, tooth and nail, to defeat the Newport Falcons in their home opener, 52-49. Newport carried a 28-15 lead into halftime, only to be outscored in the second half, 37-21.

Newport quarterback Matt Kadish had a career day, throwing for 516 yards and four touchdowns, but the three interceptions were the straw that broke the camels back.

In the first half, Newport simply pulled out all the stops to try and slow down Army, and despite the two touchdowns allowed, they did a pretty solid job. But it certainly seemed the the Black Knights came out of half time more prepared and interested in winning. The triple option attack was simply too much for the Falcon defense.

After the teams traded scores midway through the third quarter, the true nature of the game was decided to end the third frame. Army had just capped off a three minute drive with a 4th down touchdown pass from Bryson Daily to Noah Short. However, Newport answered very fast, when Kadish found Cjay Rich for a 76-yard touchdown pass, his second of the day, and gave Newport the 41-36 lead.

However, Army answered with a 3-plus minute drive and a touchdown with the two-point conversion to open the fourth quarter. Then Newport did their absolute best, drowning clock but also moving the ball. Kadish constructed the offense down the field with efficiency and prowess. That was until he attempted to hit Kyaire Harding on a bubble screen and Army DB Donavon Platt read him like a book and intercepted the pass and took it 94 yards for a touchdown and the 11 point lead with just 1:47 seconds left to play.

Newport was able to score but time had expired and it ended their efforts of a comeback that they never should have had to attempt.

On the day, Kadish threw for four touchdowns, while running back Keyonte Tyson crossed the goal line three times as well. It was a game that most would expect Newport to win, but the triple option was truly just too much to handle for the Falcon defense. They are on BYE in Week 6 before traveling to take on fellow New England counterpart, Boston College.

Another tough day with turnovers.. Huge day for Rich and Thomas spoiled by the turnovers. Figure out away to shut down Dailey and limit the TO's and that's a blowout win for you..

Hopefully a week of rest will help the team get on track.
