Most of the big schools recruit their area specifically, then will also recruit California, Texas, and Florida...Not often would you see a kid from Idaho or Maine playing at Florida.

Because kids from Maine and Idaho aren't good.

Ute's Look Sloppy, Narrowly Avoid Upset
Asiata carves up Aggie defense

Heavily favored Utah barely survived instate rival Utah State in their yearly battle of brothers rivalry game. Utah jumped out to an early 14-0 lead behind a strong rushing attack led by senior half back Matt Asiata's 229 yards rushing on 37 carries.

Corbin Louks looked shaky at best in his first start, completing just 11 of 24 pass attempts for 122 yards. Louks threw two touchdowns, but was picked off three times by the Aggie defense, three of their four interceptions on the afternoon. The other came on a trick play when running back Eddie Wide took the pitch from Louks, turned to throw back but was hit and intercepted by a linebacker.

The Utah rushing attack ruled the day, with 46 carries for 259 yards and two scores between Asiata, Wide, and Louks. The defense was led by strong outtings from both starting safeties, as Robert Johnson and Juston Taplin-Ross both recorded interceptions in the second half to kill Utah State drives.

Utah State brought heavy pressure all afternoon, while not recording a sack, forcing Louks to throw on the run and knocking him to the ground often. Utah played more of a prevent defense, leaving Utah State quarterback Jeffrey Fischer to stand in the pocket. It worked, as Fischer completed just 9 of 23 passes for 129 yards with a pair of touchdowns and interceptions.

Neither team scored in a quarter the other scored in, a factor usually attributed to weather, but it could not have been more perfect at Rice-Eccles stadium for football. Utah State has not beaten Utah since 1997, and has an all-time record of 28-76-4 against the Utes.

Utah Wins Battle of BCS Busters
Broncos unable to stop Asiata

In what was billed as a battle of the two most recent BCS busters, Utah paid a visit to the blue turf home of the Boise State Broncos for a primetime ESPN showdown. Corbin Louks would have to improve his play if the Utes would have any chance to knock off one of the best home teams in college football.

Louks looked vastly improved early, finding senior David Reed for a 56 yard touchdown on a 3rd and 5. Louks pumped left and turned back to the right to hit Reed on a hook. Reed slipped by a safety and won a foot race to the end zone for the score.

Boise State would finally get on the board after Louks was picked off by Kyle Wilson. The Broncos marched down the field, but were stopped on a 3rd and 6 to force a 32 yard attempt by Brotzman, who connected for the first time in three chances.

This is when Matt Asiata took over. Time after time Corban Louks dropped back, and time after time he would gently place the ball in the capable hands off Asiata, who once again left an opposing defense in shreds. Not known for his hands, Asiata dropped two big passes while wide open.

That was okay for Asiata and the Utah attack, who had it made easy for them by a big outing by the Ute defense, who held the high powered Boise State offense to just 10 points, and forced two Kellen Moore interceptions.

Running Backs Shine as Browns Beat Vikings
Lewis upstages Peterson's Big Day

With the departure of Derek Anderson in the off season, there was finally no doubt that this was Brady Quinn's team. Since Cleveland drafted him that had been what the team, and Quinn had been working for, so when the opportunity arose to not only ship out Anderson, but drastically improve the line in front of the young quarterback Cleveland management jumped on it.

After a quick three and out by Cleveland and a stellar return by rookie Percy Harvin, it looked as if the Vikings would score first as Adrian Peterson led the Minnesota offense down the field quickly. Until Brett Favre's first past as a Viking was tipped and intercepted by Brodney Pool who returned it 87 yards for the score.

Both quarterbacks looked unready early, as Brett Favre was picked twice in the first half by Pool, and Quinn was picked off in the red zone by Antoine Winfield between the two Favre picks.

Neither defense lived up to their preseason hype in the first half, being shredded on the ground by both running attacks, and having big plays made against them in the air, despite the three combined interceptions.

In the end, the game came down to line play, as both teams struggled to stop the run all afternoon. Jamal Lewis ran for a team high 152 yards on 28 carries. Adrian Peterson was dominant in the loss, carrying the ball 22 times for 174 yards and a touchdown.
