Wildcard Round

Dolphins bring Wildcat to Indianapolis, in hopes to advance to the second round. The Colts beat the Dolphins earlier in the year on a Monday Night game. If the Colts win, they will go to New England. If the Dolphins win, they will travel to Pittsburgh.
Prediction: Colts 41, Dolphins 24

In a rematch of last year's NFC Championship game, the Cardinals battle the Eagles in Philadelphia. Both teams finished the season at 11-5, and expect some high scoring in this one. If the Eagles win, they will travel to Atlanta, while if the Cardinals win they will play Seattle.
Prediction: Eagles 37, Cardinals 31

The 12-4 Jaguars go to Denver, to battle the 11-5 Denver Broncos. The Jaguars will try to pound the rock, while the Broncos will air-it-out with Kyle Orton. Should be a defensive battle, with two solid defenses.
Prediction: Broncos 17, Jaguars 14

The 11-5 Saints go up north, to Green Bay to play the 10-6 Packers. The Packers are missing Aaron Rodgers (Partial ACL Tear) and Greg Jennings (Torn Hamstring), and Matt Guttierez is making the start at Quarterback. Look for the Saints to roll in this one.
Prediction: Saints 34, Packers 10

Colts roll to easy victory over Dolphins

Inside the dome, the Colt's offense put on a show, and advanced to the Divisional Round to face New England.

The game started off slow for both teams, as they struggled to move the ball. The Dolphins struck first with a field goal, set up by a 57 yard pass play to Greg Camarillo. The whole first quarter was a dogfest, as neither team scored for the rest of the period. In the second quarter, Manning started to find his own groove, and completed 5 straight passes and connected with Austin Collie on an 11 yard TD.

When the Dolphins got the ball back, the Colts defense shut down the Wildcat and the 2009-2010 NFL's Best Running Back Ronnie Brown. Once the Colts got the ball back, the rookie Donald Brown got past the secondary for a 26 yard scamper, to make it a 14-3 ballgame. A late field goal gave the Colts a two touchdown lead at half-time.

The Colts recieved the ball to open the second half, and Manning completed 6 straight passes, making his streak at 15 for the game. He found Reggie Wayne in the corner of the endzone to make it 24-3. Another field goal, and the Colts had a comfortable 27-3 lead. Ronnie Brown then started to pick up his game, and got a 31 yard gain out of the Wildcat. Then Chad Henne threw a 7 yard TD pass to Davone Bess. Their 2 point conversion failed, and the lead was narrowed down to 18, 27-9.

The Colts would then put the game away with a 7 minute drive, that ended in a Joseph Addai 3 yard TD run. The Colts ended the Dolphins season, 34-9.

Eagles get revenge on Cardinals in a shootout

Last year, the Cardinals shocked the Eagles in the NFC Championship Game and advanced to the Super Bowl. This year, the Eagles took care of business against Arizona in the wildcard round.

The Cardinals offense looked great early, and on their first drive of the game went 80 yards on 10 plays, and Kurt Warner found Steve Breaston for a 9 yard TD. Philadelphia was down 7-3, and came up empty-handed with a missed 38 yard field goal by David Akers. After the missed field goal, Philly's defense stepped up and picked off Kurt Warner in Arizona territory. Philly took the ball 40 yards on 6 plays, and DeSean Jackson caught a goal line lob for 6. The Eagles had taken a 10-7 lead. Warner responded with another nice drive, finding Boldin for 18 and 26 yard completions. It ended with a James Urban 10 yard TD, to make it a 14-10 Cardinal lead.

McNabb didn't take long to answer though, and found DeSean Jackson on a 67 yard fly route to quickly take the lead, 17-14 right before halftime. In the second half, Warner was picked off again, and the Eagles had the ball at the 50. On a 4th and 1 at midfield, Michael Vick gashed the Cardinal defense for a 36 yard run out of the Wildcat. Then McNabb found a slanting Jeremy Maclin for a 14 yard TD, to make it a 24-14 ball game. The Cardinals offense stalled around mid-field, and once again the Eagles took the ball right down field for a TD. McNabb found receiver Brandon Gibson for a 21 yard TD, and it looked like the Eagles would run away with a 31-14 lead.

Warner wouldn't let that happen, and he found Fitzgerald, who had been quiet all game, for gains of 15 and 13 yards. Then Tim Hightower bruised Eagle defenders on 31 yard TD run. The Cardinals were now down 31-21 and it looked like the comeback was possible. The first play of the 4th quarter, was a screen pass to Brian Westbrook. Westbrook took the screen pass 64 yards to the house. The only problem was that a Adrian Wilson caught up and made Westbrook fumble out of the endzone for a touchback. Now the Cardinals had the ball back, and a chance to make it a one possession game. Didn't happen though, as the Eagles defense stepped up big and forced a 3 and out. A great punt return from DeSean Jackson, helped the Eagles get in great field position. Then after a couple plays, LeSean McCoy had a nice 26 yard draw play run, for a TD. The Eagles now had a 38-21 lead in the middle of the 4th. Once again the Cardinals came back and scored, but this time with a bomb to Anquan Boldin. Now the Cardinals trailed 38-28 and still had a chance with 5 minutes left to play.

Their onside kick attempt failed, and Michael Vick had a 21 yard run for a TD that iced the game, 45-28. The Eagles had gotten revenge on the Arizona Cardinals. Now, the Eagles will visit the Atlanta Falcons in the Georgia Dome for the Divisional Round.

Turnovers lead to Jaguars victory

The game even started out hectic. On the opening kick off on the frozen Mile High turf, there was a clipping penalty and a fumble. The Broncos recovered their own fumble, but this set the pace for the whole entire game.

MVP candidate Kyle Orton, and Offensive ROY Knowshon Moreno drove straight down the field and Orton connected with Tony Scheffler for a 14 yard TD, to take an early 7-0 lead. The Jaguars weren't going down early though, and came back with David Garrard finding Torry Holt for a 7 yard TD. On the Broncos next possession, Eddie Royal scored on a 54 yard screen pass, to make it 14-7. Down 7, MJD ran straight through the Bronco defense, and scored a 21 yard TD to tie it up.

Tied up at 14, Brandon Marshall got some separation from the Jaguar secondary for a long bomb. Marshall caught the pass and ran it in for a 61 yard TD pass. David Garrard threw an interception on the next drive, but Orton did the same on the next drive, canceling out turnovers. The Jaguars then drove down field and MJD ran it in from 3 yards out for the score, just before half time to tie it up at 21.

In the second half, the Broncos started off strong with Knowshon Moreno going off on a 30 yard run, and eventually finishing off the drive with a 3 yard TD. Then the Broncos defense, forced a quick 3 and out to gain the ball back. A good punt return from Eddie Royal, and the Broncos seemed like they were starting to gain momentum. Then disaster, as Kyle Orton was hit from his blindside, and he fumbled. Atiyyah Ellison scooped it up and returned it for 6, to tie up the game. Eager to respond quickly, Eddie Royal took the kickoff out of the endzone--and fumbled! The Jaguars picked it up, and ran it in for another TD! In a matter of 10 seconds, the Jaguars scored 2 TDs, grabbed the lead, and all the momentum!

Down 35-28, Moreno helped the Broncos try to get back on track. He had a nice 26 yard gain to get into field goal range, but their offense stalled after that. Matt Prater hit the 43 yard field goal, and the Jaguars lead by 4. David Garrard, on the following drive, found Mike Sims-Walker on a 40 yard pass, which set them in field goal range, and Josh Schobee put 3 on the board. Now trailing by 10, Kyle Orton threw his 2nd interception of the game (he only had 6 all season), and the Jaguars got into field goal range again. Luckily for the Broncos, Schobee's 46 yard field goal was short in the cold weather, and the Broncos had life. With the score at 38-31, the Broncos couldn't get anything going and was forced to punt with only 5 minutes left. MJD milked the clock, and the drive ended with a 34 yard field goal, and only 2 minutes remained.

On the second play of the Broncos drive, Kyle Orton avoided the heavy blitz, and found Tony Scheffler 10 yards down field. Scheffler received great blocking, and barreled over 2 defenders, on his way to a 71 yard TD. The Broncos now trailed by 3 with the score at 41-38. The Broncos had 3 timeouts and chose to kick it off. Bad decision, as MJD had a brilliant 40 yard run which let the Jaguars knee the ball, and eliminate the Broncos! The Jaguars are off to Pittsburgh now to face the 14-2 defending champions.

Wounded Packers Risk it all in Classic Win

With Aaron Rodgers and Greg Jennings on the sideline, there's no way the Packers could beat the Saints. Right? Wrong.

On the frozen tundra in Green Bay, both defenses held their own, as both offenses were shut out in the first quarter. This would change in the biggest way for the rest of the game. For the second quarter, the Saints came prepared as Pierre Thomas scored on their first drive, punching it from the 23 yard line. Down 7, Matt Guttierez and the Packers set off to tie the score, but failed to do so going 3 and out. The Packers punt successfully landed at the 3 yard line, but Drew Brees didn't care. After 2 plays, he found Courtney Roby for an 89 yard TD down the sideline. After 6 minutes, the Saints were up 14-0. The Packers stuck to their run game with Rodgers out, and Grant came through with a 61 yard run, right down the gut of the defense. Charles Woodson then picked off Drew Brees' pass attempt, and with Ryan Grant getting a 2 yard TD run, the Packers were back in bussiness.

Brees of course, came back and found Marques Colston for a 42 yard TD to put the Saints on top, 21-14 at half time. A Jordy Nelson 60 yard screen pass, set up a Brandon Jackson 3 yard score, to tie the game up. The Saints explosive offense came right back, and Brees engineered a 72 yard drive, in which Pierre Thomas scored from the 9 yard line. Guttierez made his first mistake of the game, and was picked off by Darren Sharper. Brees found Robert Meachem streaking down field for a 32 yard TD, to make it 35-21.

With their explosive weapons on offense out, it seemed the Packers couldn't keep up with Drew Brees. Well, Guttierez disagrees with this statement, and it showed when he found Donald Driver on a slant route, and Driver ran it in from the 20 yard line. Down 1 possession, the Packers defense came up with a big stop inside their own redzone, and forced the Saints to kick a field goal. Now the Saints held a 38-28 lead. On the ensuing drive, Brandon Jackson took a 43 yard screen pass to the house, and the Packers were one again down 3 with 7 minutes to play in the game. The Packers defense came up with a big stop, and Mason Crosby kicked a 34 yard field goal to tie up the game.

The NFC MVP wasn't done yet though, and he lead the Saints on a 4 minute, 12 play, 77 yard drive, which ended in a Marques Colston 6 yard TD. The Saints had taken a 45-38 lead and only a minute and 20 seconds remained. Surely, Matt Guttierez couldn't comeback from this. Once again, wrong. Guttierez found Ryan Grant for a 21 yard pass on 4th and 3 at his own 30. Then with 40 seconds left, found a streaking Donald Lee for a 25 yard pass, and all of a sudden the Packers had the ball at the 14 yard line. Brandon Jackson had a 8 yard catch, but it was inbounds, and the clock rolled all the way down to 14 seconds when the Packers hiked the ball. Guttierez threw a strike to Jordy Nelson, but it was batted down. Now only 8 seconds remained, and Guttierez threw a dart to a slanting Donald Driver, and 'Mr. Packer' caught it for the game-tying TD. But with all the momentum, the Packers did the unthinkable. Go for it. The Packers did just that, and Ryan Grant didn't dissapoint running in untouched, for the 2 pt. conversion. The Packers will travel to Seattle to play the Seahawks in the division round.

Re: The Coaching Legacy of Alonso Torres (M10)

Divisional Round

The Jaguars kick off the Divisional Round of the NFL playoffs visiting Pittsburgh. The defending champions have home field advantage throughout the playoffs, and are the favorite to win it all. The Jaguars will try to pull off the upset, but with Pitt's defense, it is very unlikely.
Prediction: Steelers 24, Jaguars 7

The wounded Packers survived in the first round behind a gusty performance and play-calling. Now they go to Seattle, one of the toughest places to play in the NFL. The crowd is possibly the loudest in the NFL, and young QB Matt Guttierez will feel the pressure. Too much pressure for the young QB, and the defense should be focusing in on Ryan Grant.
Prediction: Seahawks 24, Packers 14

The Colts visit New England, where cold weather and possibly snow is expected. Peyton Manning isn't known to thrive in these conditions, while Tom Brady is. Expect that to show on Sunday.
Prediction: Patriots 27, Colts 13

Eagles and Falcons will battle in the Georgia Dome on Sunday, and expect both offenses to be in full flight. The Eagles are on a roll, and we think they will carry that through and beat the Falcons on the road.
Prediction: Eagles 37, Falcons 34

Ben Roethlisberger's 3 TDs pushed the defending champions past the Jaguars, into the AFC Championship Game. Santonio Holmes caught 2 TD passes and had over 110 yards receiving, and NT Casey Hampton disrupted the Jaguar offense with 5 sacks. The Steelers will play the winner of the Colts-Pats game.

42
35
Down 28-17, the Seahawks rallied and forced OT, and Justin Forsett's 48 yard punt return sent them to the NFC Championship Game. The Packers had a special teams and defensive TD, to help out Matt Guttierez who passed for 2 TDs and over 280 yards. Forsett was the player of the game, scoring on a 64 yard screen pass and the game-winning punt return. The Seahawks will battle the winner of the Falcons-Eagles game.

41
34
In a rainy, cold day in Foxboro, Peyton Manning out dueled Tom Brady throwing 4 TDs and only 1 INT, while Tom Brady threw 3 TDs and 2 picks in the 4th quarter. Manning lead the Colts to a great drive with 6 minutes left, to take a 7 point lead. Brady got two chances but couldn't complete them, throwing 2 interceptions, and allowing the Colts to advance to the AFC Championship Game.

31
27
Down 24-7, Donovan McNabb engineered a tremendous comeback, and with 6 minutes left tied the game at 24. Then he lead his team to a field goal on his next drive taking a 3 point lead with a minute and 26 seconds left, and the Falcons had no timeouts. Still Matt Ryan went 6 for 7 on the drive, for 67 yards and found Michael Jenkins on a slant route in the endzone with 12 seconds left, leading the Falcons to victory. Other than the final drive, Michael Turner carried the Falcons with 21 carries for 209 yards. The Falcons will go to Seattle for the NFC Championship Game.

Re: The Coaching Legacy of Alonso Torres (M10)

The Colts go to Heinz Field, to try to dethrone the defending champions. Peyton Manning always seems to struggle against the Steelers, and with the cold conditions, we'll take the Steelers.
Prediction: Steelers 17, Colts 14

The Falcons are traveling to Qwest Field, to face the Seattle Seahawks for a trip to the Super Bowl. There's a good chance of rain in the forecast, and with home-field advantage, we'll take the Seahawks over the young Falcons. We think it will be a rematch of the 2005 Superbowl.
Prediction: Seahawks 27, Falcons 21
