South Carolina (3-2) Vs Kentucky (1-2)

Close, But No Cigar

Kentucky comes up short in a heart-pounding game against South Carolina.

South Carolina over comes 4 interceptions in the first 3 quarters, two pull it together in the 4th. South Carolina scored 17 points in the 4th to complete the comeback. Including the game winning 49 yard field with 2 seconds left.

South Carolina won because of the team speed that they brought in during the off season. Speedy wide out Raul Jones broke a 75 yard touchdown catch to spark and give South Carolina the lead late in the 4th.

Kentucky's offense stepped up and drove 67 yards on 9 plays to get in field goal range. Thanks in large part to Titus Coley throwing for 54 yards and completing 5 of 6 passes on the drive. The only thing they did wrong was leaving to much time on the clock with 1:13 and letting South Carolina keep 2 of it timeouts.

South Carolina's senior wide out Adrian Marks come up with the biggest play of the game on 4th down. Marks grabbed a slant pass between to defenders and took it 42 yards before getting tackled but it put the Gamecocks in field goal range to win it.

Kentucky's Trey Sharpe (cornerback) had 2 interceptions and Mike Jean (defensive end) had 3 sacks, both doing their part to help Kentucky but it wasn't enough.

South Carolina 27, Kentucky 26

South Carolina (4-2) vs Vanderbilt (0-5)

Downward Spiral

Vanderbilt continues to struggle, losing 28-19 to South Carolina.

Vanderbilt has now lost all 6 games this year. Mostly due to inconsistent quarterback play, but that was not the case in this game. True freshman quarterback Ron Little did what have had to do, going 20-33 for 236 yards and 2 touchdowns. One of his two touchdowns came in the first half on an all out blitz. He reacted quick and hit his check down, who took it to the house. He tried to lead them back in the second half but a costly interception was too much to overcome.

Karl Lewis keeps his steak of now 7 straight games of 100 yards of total offense. South Carolina has to shape up if they want to win next week vs Tennessee.

South Carolina improves to 5-2 on the year and 3-2 in conference.

Tennessee (2-4) Vs South Carolina (5-2)

Unfriendly Confines

Gamecocks lose a tough home game against Tennessee.

Tennessee pretty much owned the game right from the start. Tennessee received the kickoff and drove the ball right down the field. Tennessee scored on 7 plays, covering 75 yards. The defense did the rest.

Brent Ricks out dueled Karl Lewis in a battle of junior running backs. Ricks had over 160 yards and 2 touchdowns, including a 82 yard run. Karl Lewis had just over 135 yards on 14 rushes.

South Carolina only hope came from Karl Lewis's 81 yard touchdown run in the 4th quarter but was shut down by Tennessee offense. Tennessee drove right back down the field and scored their 3 touchdown of the game.

South Carolina falls to 5-3 and will face a tough Arkansas team.
