Re: Conquering the MAC - A Ball State Dynasty

Offense heading up, but defensive struggles continue

Summary:
It was over when...
Truthfully, it was over before it even started. Iowa scored in under two minutes to start the game, and never looked back.

Game ball
Colin Sandeman torched the weak Ball State secondary for two huge pass plays, one resulting in a touchdown. Being the slot receiver, he was often covered by a much smaller and slower opponent, resulting in a great game for him.

Key Stat
This time is going to be two key stats. First we have Kelly Page who threw for over 200 yards against a good secondary. Granted, he did throw two picks extremely early in the game (which may or may not have cost them the game) he calmed down and got into a rhythm. The second key stat is MiQuale Lewis who pounded out over 100 yards rushing for the second time this season.

Thanks! It's good to know somebody's actually reading it!

And Iowa was tough. I just kept pounding the ball on the left side to avoid their key players which were all on the right side of the ball.

What Ball State needs to do
Kelly Page needs to get on track this game. He is going up against a pretty tough pass defense, but if he can keep his composure early on, it can open up the run game for MiQuale Lewis. Defensively, the Cardinals need to try to hold the two time MAC Player of the Week Ryan Radcliffe in check. It's not going to be easy, but if they can shut down the passing game, the Cardinals have a good chance of winning this one.

What Central Michigan needs to do
Central Michigan needs to get on the board early. Ball State has struggled to compete with teams when they are forced into a deficit early on. If Ryan can lead his team to some quick scores, it may be over before you know it for Ball State.

Prediction: Central Michigan 24-13

Re: Conquering the MAC - A Ball State Dynasty

Recruiting News -
Ball State has signed their first recruit of the year just after the tough loss to Iowa. Wide receiver Josh Higgins out of Circleville, Ohio committed to Ball State to play for the Cardinals in the 2011 season. One of the big selling points was how close Ball State was to his home. Josh said that his parents haven't missed one of his games yet, and they aren't going to miss watching him in college either. Hopefully the speedy receiver can add some offense to the Cardinals next season.

Re: Conquering the MAC - A Ball State Dynasty

Ball State ends three game losing skid, topping CMU in OT.

Summary:
It was over when...
Tim Phillips was stuffed on 4th and goal from the two yard line in OT. Terrance Freeman blasted through the A-gap and stuffed Tim before he could even make it back to the line of scrimmage.

Game ball
MiQuale Lewis ran for over 200 yards and four touchdowns to help aid his team to victory. Granted, he sat out the last two sessions of OT with a dislocated thumb, his play still helped lead the Cardinals over the Chippewas.

Key Stat
Although Ball State let up almost 700 yards of offense, they still managed to force 6 turnovers. The Cardinals forced 3 fumbles on running back Tim Phillips, as well as 5 against quarterback Ryan Radcliffe. In the big picture, it's really what pushed Ball State over Central Michigan.

Re: Conquering the MAC - A Ball State Dynasty

Recruiting News -
Ball State reeled in their second recruit of the year, free safety Ernest Smith. Ernest currently plays for New Albany Senior High School where he has led his team to a 4-1 start to the year. When asked why he chose Ball State, he responded, "I've grown up watching the Cardinals. My dad played quarterback there back in the early 80's, and I want to continue the family tradition." Ernest committed with Ball State just after their overtime win against Central Michigan.
