Re: Farming for Wins - A Southern Texas Farming University Dynasty

REBEL YELL
STFU outplayed in Oxford

Bolden scores one of his three TDs

Oxford, Mississippi - Coming off a pair of big wins hopes were high that the Farmhands could take down their first ranked opponent when they faced off against Ole Miss in Oxford. Things were looking good when they took a 3-0 lead on their first drive via a 49 yard field goal by Raymond. After punting back and forth STFU was driving hard when Riggs connected to Hart for a first down around the Ole Miss 20. Hart lay on the turf clenching his right shoulder and left the game as the first quarter ended. He did not return.

As if that wasn’t enough STFU QB Riggs coughed up the ball on the next play and the Rebels recovered on the 18. Luck would be on the Farmhand’s side as Rose pushed a field goal attempt wide left. STFU held the 3-0 lead. The teams would punt back and forth and Riggs and the offense were on a solid drive until TE Crawford lost the ball and Ole Miss again scooped it up. The turnover led to a TD pass from Stanley to Hicks and Ole Miss was up 7-3 when the half ended.

After a Mississippi punt to start off the quarter STFU would put together a solid drive. Gooden’s 20 yard run picked up a first down at the 20 and a few plays later Riggs found Crawford for a score. Raymond’s kick made it 10-7 Farmhands. Ole Miss would turn the ball over on a fumble but a three and out gave it right back. Thornton would then pick off Stanley but Riggs threw a pick right back. Defensive end Poree would leave the game clutching his right knee and wouldn’t return. The Rebels wouldn’t waste the opportunity. A long pass to the 37 and then a long run from there to the 1 set up Bolden for his first TD and Mississippi led 14-10. On the next drive STFU would commit their fifth turnover when Gooden lost the ball at the STFU 27. Mississippi would face a third and two at the eight yard line as the third quarter came to a close.

The Rebs would pick up the first down at the 6 and from there it was Bolden for TD number two and a 21-10 lead. Riggs was leading a good drive when he connected with McFarland on a long pass to the Miss 38. The next play Riggs got rushed and forced a pass that was tipped and picked off at the 36. Bolden would score for the third time and STFU was down 28-10. After another Farmhands punt Miss would drive for another rushing TD, this time by Allen and the score was 35-10 with under 2 minutes to play. The ensuing kick off would result in a 94 yard TD by Weaver but it was too little too late and Ole Miss would win 35-16.

“We got behind and we abandoned the game plan. I should say I abandoned it. We wanted to run the ball and eat up clock and keep their offense off the field. We didn’t. We struggled defensively and you cant win like that. We need some tackling work and some work on pursuit angles. This is a tough loss to take.” stated an obviously upset Coach Pinagote. STFU has three conference games left. At FAU, home against Montgomery and at WTF. FAU is 6-2(4-1) while Montgomery is 5-3(4-0) both games have conference championship implications. WTF is 3-6(2-4)

Defensive End DJ Poree will be out next week as he recovers from a knee injury. Wideout Danny Hart will join Nick Oliver and Nick Shumate on the season ending injury list with a broken collarbone.

“We don’t make excuses but there’s no question that injuries have hit us hard. We’ll just do the best we can with who we have and hope those guys can come back strong next season.”

Crawford hauls in a TD pass, Bolden fights in for his first TD, Weaver‘s fourth quarter KR TD, Riggs was harassed by Ole Miss defenders all day

Re: Farming for Wins - A Southern Texas Farming University Dynasty

LATE ARRIVAL
STFU battles FAU in an OT thriller

Eldridge lights up an FAU receiver

Boca Raton, Florida - With Sun Belt championship implications on the line STFU headed to face FAU. STFU would bring in a 5-0 conference record while FAU was 4-1.

FAU would march right down the field on their first possession and score on an 11 yard pass from Wilbert to Stinson. Raymond would connect on field goals of 41, 27 and 30 in the second quarter to give STFU a 9-7 lead at the half.

Bierman would haul in a 20 yard TD pass from Wilbert late in the third quarter and after a 2 point conversion they led 15-9. FAU had been effective in the passing game while STFU’s offense had struggled to do much of anything. Riggs was being hounded by defenders on every pass attempt and his completion percentage as well as the pick he threw showed it.

The real fireworks would come in the fourth quarter. An early Floyd TD run, the ensuing 2 point conversion and a 24 yard Gornall field goal pushed the lead to 26 to 9. STFU then decided to join the game. Weaver would take the kickoff 97 yards for a TD and Raymond made it 26-16 with the kick. After an exchange of punts Riggs would hit a wide open Wheeler who would go 85 yards for the score. After holding the FAU offense again the TFU offense would drive down and setup Raymond for the game tying kick with :10 to play. The game would go into OT.

STFU would go on defense to start the overtime. FAU would convert a third and long with a pass down to the 2 yard line which set up Morris for a 2 yard TD run. The kick made it 33-26 and the STFU offense was on the hook. Riggs would scramble for a first down at the nine on third down and Gooden would punch it it from there. Raymond tied it up. Unable to move the ball on their second possession the Farmhands decided to lean on Raymond and their defense. Raymond connected from 40. FAU would throw a screen but it was stopped for no gain. After a short run and an incomplete pass FAU would line up for a kick. Gornall would push it wide left and STFU would get the improbable comeback win.

“We didn’t play a complete game, that’s for sure. We really need to work on our passing game, that’s clear. We prefer to run but the fact is that we haven’t been able to run as well as we had hoped lately so we need to be able to use the passing game. We won but we’ve got a lot of work to do.”

Pinagote would not answer questions about Riggs or Hansen starting the remainder of the season. STFU improves to 7-2(6-0) while FAU drops to 6-3(4-2).

Riggs was abused for the second straight game, Gaither scoops up a fumble, The FAU receivers went through around and over the STFU defense, Gooden scores in OT
