Re: Farming for Wins - A Southern Texas Farming University Dynasty

KICKING AND SCREAMING
Raymond leads STFU to big win

Raymond would be the hero of the day

Edinburg, Texas - Knowing that a win would lock up the Sun Belt Championship for either team long time foes STFU and Montgomery set to do battle. A win would bump STFU to 7-0 in the conference and ensure a Conference title. A Montgomery win would make leave both squads with 1 conference loss and Montgomery would control their own fate. Overall STFU came in at 7-2 while Montgomery was 6-3.

Montgomery got possession first and after a sack by Poree they would be forced to punt. STFU would put together a 16 play drive, all runs, that spilled over into the second quarter where Raymond connected on a 26 yard field goal to make it 3-0.

Montgomery would punt and then the Farmhands would give the ball back at the Biscuits 43 after failing to convert on 4th and a yard. UM would go three and out and punt, STFU would punt back. With less than three minutes to play in the half Rankin and the Biscuits took possession and connected on three long passes down to the 4 yard line where Grier would muscle in for the score. With :52 left in the half Riggs orchestrated a brilliant drive on which he was 5/6 passing and capped with a 23 yard TD pass to Stover in the back of the end zone. Raymond’s kick made it 10-7 at the half.

STFU would punt to end their first drive of the second half. Rankin would lead Montgomery on a 9 play, 75 yard drive and top it off with a 22 yard TD strike to put them back on top 14-10. Raymond would come up just short on a 55 yard field goal as the third ended.

UM would punt and pin the Farmhands at their own 18. That would result in a punt. Montgomery had their next drive ended by a fumble which Porter scooped up at the Biscuits 47. With 6:23 left to play the STFU offense went to work. Riggs found Crawford for a long gain then Gooden ran for 20 down to the 10. The drive stalled there and Raymond made it 13-14 with a chip shot field goal.

Each team would go three and out then Montgomery would again, giving the ball back to STFU at their own 45 with 2:30 to play. Crawford ran for 11 and STFU let the clock run. Crawford ran again for 4 yards. The clock kept running. Gooden ran for a yard. Tick tick tick. Crawford carried for 2 yards to the 28. He was brought down dead center of the field and STFU called a time out with :04 left. Montgomery used all 3 of their time outs trying to ice Raymond but he split the uprights from 45 yards out as time expired to give the Farmhands the big win and lock up the Sun Belt Championship.

“I knew if I couldn’t get that first down that I needed to get as close to the center of the field as I could. If I could do that I knew B-Ray would nail it.” explained Tommy Crawford

“I really gotta give the offense credit for getting it that close and getting a great spot for me. The snap was great, the hold was great and I just let it rip. As soon as it left my foot I knew it was right down the middle.” stated Raymond.

“One of our most complete games of the season. We were able to balance the passing game and running game and the defense played well.” Coach Pinagote said after the game.

STFU improves their record to 8-2(7-0) and they will head to Fairview to take on WTF who are 4-7(3-4). WTF is STFU’s biggest rival, dating back to the 1960’s. After the WTF game STFU is expected to accept a bowl invite.

Poree reintroduced himself with a first drive sack, Stover hauls in a TD pass, Porter scoops up a fumble, Montgomery’s defense breaks up a potential TD

Re: Farming for Wins - A Southern Texas Farming University Dynasty

CROWNED
STFU claims Sun Belt with win over WTF

Holt stops Page inches shy of a first down to save the game

Fairview, Wyoming - Historically when WTF meets STFU you can “throw out the records” as the old cliché goes. The teams have met regularly since the mid 60s and the series is near even, with WTF holding the advantage by 2 games at 25-23. With WTF looking at a losing season and STFU looking to go 8-0 in conference everyone knew this would be a battle. “Records don’t matter in this one, that’s been from over the last forty some years. We can’t expect to roll over these guys” said Chris Riggs before the game.

After an exchange of punts followed by an exchange of fumbles WTF would cough the ball up again and Greg Holt would scoop it up and go 59 yards for the TD. Holt would make several key plays throughout the game. After giving up the defensive TD WTF would bounce right back and score on a 4 yard QB keep to cap a long pass filled drive. WTF’s spread style pass heavy offense had given STFU trouble all season when they had seen it from other teams. WTF knew this. STFU would go 3 and out and an interception by Holt would give the Farmhands the ball back as the first quarter ended.

Riggs would run for a long first down and after a holding call he hit Stover on long passes twice, the second putting the ball at the 10. Gooden carried to the 5 and then again into the end zone and the STFU lead was 14-7. Porter would pick off a WTF pass but on the second play of the ensuing drive Riggs had a pass tipped and picked. WTF would have a drive staff on 4th and short. They went for a fake punt run but the up back was stuffed and the Farmhands took possession. The drive would end in a Raymond field goal. WTF would again put together a strong drive but an interception by Holt in the end zone ended the threat and the first half. STFU would be up 17-7 at the half.

Riggs and the STFU offense would drive all the way to the WTF 7 but a fumble by Gooden turned it over. They would drive close enough to attempt a 44 yard field goal only to have it clank off the left upright. STFU would chew up clock with a run heavy drive capped by a 25 yard Raymond field goal to push the lead to 20-7. WTF would go 3 and out as the third quarter ended.

STFU would go three and out then hold WTF to force a punt. Riggs then would cough up the ball on a scramble to see a WTF defender scoop it up and go 69 yards for a score. The STFU lead was just 6. STFU would have to punt and the WTF passing attack would pick them apart until they were set up with a 4th and 3 at the STFU 8 with 1:00 left on the clock. They ran option left and Holt was there to stop the QB inches short of a first down. Riggs would take a knee to run out the clock. STFU would finish their regular season with a record of 8-0 in the conference and 9-2 overall. WTF fell to 4-8(3-5). STFU will likely play in the New Orleans Bowl against Tulsa on 12-20. Tulsa is 7-5(4-4) and lost their last 3 games.

Holt takes a fumble recovery for 6, STFU celebrates a Gooden TD, Porter leaps for a pick, WTF’s McGrew returns a fumble
