Re: Bungle In The Jungle | M2H's Cincinnati Bengals

Bengals Down UnderManninged Colts, 24-7

A game that was a probable loss became a possible win when Peyton Manning had another neck surgery during the week before opening day. It became a probable win when Kerry Collins broke a toe. To take advantage of the Indianapolis Colts’ quarterback situation, Cincinnati Bengals defensive coordinator Mike Zimmer planned to blitz the untested Curtis Painter on nearly every passing down. With one exception, the plan was successful. Although the Bengals didn’t record any sacks, the harried Painter incessantly, making it possible to win by merely scoring more than 7 points.

At the 4:44 mark of the first quarter, Adam Vinatieri was wide left on a 46 yard field goal try, after which Mike Nugent opened the second with a 20 yard gimme. The aforementioned exception came in Indy’s next series, when Painter managed to find a wide-open Pete the Waiter for a 71 yard touchdown, with Monsieur Garcon going 53 of those yards after the catch. In the following Bengal possession, Cedric Benson was stuffed on third and inches for a three and out, but on the punt rookie linebacker Dontay Moch drilled Jerraud Powers, causing a fumble that was recovered by Reggie Nelson at the Indianapolis 30. Getting a collarbone snapped may have contributed to Powers’ inability to hold onto the pigskin. It was three plays and no first down again for the Bengals, and the opportunity was squandered when Nugent missed a 43 yard attempt. Cincinnati did manage to regain the lead when Andy Dalton hit A.J. Green for a 14 yard score 2:53 before the break. Only 16 seconds before the half, Moch did again, dislodging the ball from Blair White for Morgan Trent to recover at the Colt 24. Dalton’s first shot at the end zone was unsuccessful, but on the next play he found Jermaine Gresham at the 5. Gresham did the rest to give the Bengals a 17-7 halftime lead.

Vinatieri hit the right upright on a 40 yard attempt and got an unlucky bounce in the first minute of the fourth quarter, and the second half remained scoreless until Benson bullied his way into the end zone from 8 yards out with 1:49 to go.

The Bengals take a 5-1 record into their bye week, and Keith Rivers and Pacman Jones are expected to be in the lineup for the Week 8 contest in Seattle.

So far the Tarvaris Jackson (60.0 QB rating) experiment isn't working out so well for the Hawks. Hopefully T-Jack will wait at least another week before catching fire, hahaha.

Last Meeting: 9-23-07 - Seahawks 24, Bengals 21

It would be nice if they could give the CPU some adaptive AI so it would go with what's working. All it would have had to do was compare Addai's ypc with Painter's completion %, and see it should have been pounding the rock as much as possible.
