vs.
Memphis starts season with loss to MAC opponent Buffalo

Buffalo Bulls at Memphis Tigers
Sep 1, 20121ST2ND3RD4THSCORE
Buffalo Bulls (0-0)101310740
Memphis Tigers (0-0)0072128

Liberty Bowl Memorial Stadium was packed with screaming fans. Well, maybe packed isn't the right word, but there were quite a few people there cheering on the Tigers as the Justin Fuente era began. Unfortunately, the era began on the wrong foot, as the Tigers lost 40-28 to the Buffalo Bulls. The Bulls used a devastating rushing attack to punish the Tigers inept defensive line, and put the Tigers in a 30-0 hole at their worst point.

However, the Tigers managed to fight back, as Memphis native DeAnthony Turner was leading the offense. Turner's pro-style attack had to go to the air more often than he would have liked, as only 15 of the Tigers' 439 yards came on the ground. If there was one bright spot, it was QB Taylor Reed, who threw for 424 yards, setting the Memphis single game passing record.

The Tigers' next opponent is Arkansas State, and they will travel to Jonesboro for that contest.

BUFF - Stat - MEM
481 - Total Offense - 439
41/205 - Rushes/Rushing Yards - 8/15
38/276 - Passes/Passing Yards - 48/424
0 - Turnovers - 4

Memphis loses heartbreaker to Arkansas State

Memphis Tigers at Arkansas State Red Wolves
Sep 8, 20121ST2ND3RD4THSCORE
Memphis Tigers (0-1)7371431
Arkansas State Red Wolves (0-1)7614936

The Tigers traveled to Jonesboro, Arkansas to face Sun Belt opponent Arkansas State. In most years, Memphis would beat this team, but instead, they dropped a close loss to the Red Wolves, 36-31. Once again, the other team controlled the ball with stunning efficiency. Memphis was able to hang in there though, and did manage to have a chance to win on a last second drive, until an interception by Arkansas State deterred that dream.

Up next, the Tigers will face in-state opponent Middle Tennessee State.

MEM - Stat - ARKST
333 - Total Offense - 544
13/35 - Rushes/Rushing Yards - 27/108
29/298 - Passes/Passing Yards - 52/436
4 - Turnovers - 0

MTSU destroys Memphis 58-24

Middle Tennessee Blue Raiders at Memphis Tigers
Sep 15, 20121ST2ND3RD4THSCORE
Middle Tennessee Blue Raiders (2-0)101403458
Memphis Tigers (0-2)7314024

Memphis was back at home, this time to face the boys from Murfreesboro asthe Blue Raiders of Middle Tennessee State came to play at the Liberty Bowl. While the final score ended up being 58-24 in favor of MTSU, the game actually remained close for the first three quarters, as Memphis running back Jerrel Rhodes kept the Tigers in the ball game with 189 yards on 23 carries. However, the culprit for this loss has to be pinned on the 5 interceptions that Memphis QB Taylor Reed threw, and in the 4th quarter, MTSU managed to pull away, thanks to a couple of pick sixes.

The Tigers will go to Durham, North Carolina and face the Duke Blue Devils next week.

MTSU - Stat - MEM
369 - Total Offense - 432
22/71 - Rushes/Rushing Yards - 27/182
37/298 - Passes/Passing Yards - 39/250

Memphis hangs in there, still finds a way to lose

Memphis Tigers at Duke Blue Devils
Sep 22, 20121ST2ND3RD4THSCORE
Memphis Tigers (0-3)07141233
Duke Blue Devils (1-2)0287742

The Memphis Tigers went to Durham and took on the Duke Blue Devils today. While the game was close in the first quarter, a barrage of interceptions thrown in the second quarter proved just to be too much, as Memphis lost 42-33, and still remain without a win on the season. The Tigers went to the passing game in the second half, and made a comeback, but two missed extra point attempts took them out of the game.

MEM - Stat - DUKE
439 - Total Offense - 313
15/-2 - Rushes/Rushing Yards - 32/127
52/441 - Passes/Passing Yards - 35/186
7 - Turnovers - 1
