Game Notes
This is the conference opener for both teams and a very important game. Iowa comes in with an undefeated record and on the brink of being ranked. Minnesota comes in fighting to keep the train from going off the rails. Both teams have played very tough defensively and it will really be a matter of whose offense can get more steam. Iowa has a much better offense overall and they hold on to the ball, so expect them to come out with the victory.

Big test coming up. Tough, tough loss against 'Cuse - but looks like you had some good things to take out of it.

Good luck against the Hawkeyes!

Minnesota Golden Gophers (2-3) @ Iowa Hawkeyes (5-0)
Kinnick Stadium
Iowa City, IA
September 29th, 2012

Senior Marquis Gray once again had to lead the Minnesota offense and Gray's performance wasn't terrible. However, the Golden Gophers fell short once again losing by a field goal to Iowa. The Hawkeyes would drive down the field and put a kick through the uprights with about 2 minutes left in the game and Minnesota's offense would fail to score.

Offensively Gray lead the team once again this time throwing for 88 yards on 11 completions and 21 attempts with 1 touchdown and interception. Rushing would be split between the top two running backs and Gray as James Gillum had 11 rushes for 43 yards, Gray had 11 for 48 and a touchdown, David Cobb had 12 for 55 yards. Malcolm Moulton would be the leading receiver catching 4 balls for 54 yards and a touchdown.

Defensively the Golden Gophers played really well and were anchored again by linebacker Mike Rallis who picked up 14 total tackles this game. The defensive didn't play too stellar otherwise and the only other noteworthy play is Safety Cedric Thompson who tallied 8 total tackles.

The Gophers have a bye week next and then will follow up with with a game at home against Northwestern on October 13th.

Game Notes
The upcoming game against Northwestern will be a true test for Minnesota. The Wildcats have only lost one game this year and are currently undefeated in conference play. Will key injuries to players like DT Ra'shede Hageman and HB James Gillum the Gophers will need others to step up and make big plays. However, if Northwestern is playing well don't expect Minnesota to get the upset.
