2012 - Week #4

Banding Together - The Raiders will have less room for error now that Richard Seymour will be out for several weeks.

Leveling The Playing Field - The Broncos had built up a nice streak of wins before falling 27-13 to the Raiders this week.

Close Loss At Home - Fans in Green Bay certainly couldn't get out of the stadium quick enough after the Saints came in and won a hotly debated contest.

Battling To A Standstill - Even with five solid quarters of play, no winner was decided in the Chargers versus Chiefs matchup. The game concluded in a 20-20 tie.

Nothing But A Drubbing - There have been plenty of classic matchups between Buffalo and New England. This was not one of those games.

Empty Handed - The Browns left today's 45-19 game with a loss to the Ravens.

Anticipated Return

Rookie FS Wilson and DT Love come off DL

Foxboro, MA - Pre-season injuries for Tavon Wilson and Kyle Love seem to have healed. We should expect to see them with some playing time on Sunday's afternoon match-up against the Denver Broncos.

When asked, Kyle love had this to say, "I'm all healed up and ready to return to the field and compete. With Wilfork helping up the middle, we'll be unstoppable."

@MarkSchlerethEA - Patriots will have one less active roster spot to fill with Kyle Love returning this week.

On a side note, rookie running back Brandon Bolden has moved up the depth chart to be the 2nd back behind Stevan Ridley. Shane Vereen has dropped a spot and Danny Woodhead is still the 3rd down back.

Peyton Manning is Near Perfect

Foxboro, MA - The Bradyless Patriots fall to a familiar face. Peyton Manning was near unstoppable but New England came close with a Mallett touchdown to none-other than his favorite target Rob Gronkowski with 1 minute left to play.

Manning put up 400+ yards and spread the field to 3 receivers. Demaryius Thomas, Eric Decker, and blast from the past Roy Williams were on the other end of these Hall of Famer's balls. If you remember, Roy Williams has been in this league for a while and seems to have had a few breakout games through his years. They were able to connect twice on touchdown tosses.

As for the Patriots, Ridley put up 2 scores in the second quarter to keep the Patriots within 1 score at the half. This was a fairly mistake free game that turned into "Ambulance City". Three Patriots went down in the game. Newly acquired Lofa Tatupu, star DT Vince Wilfork, and Rob Nonkovich. Both Wilfork and Ninkovich are questionable for next week and Tatupu is looking at a few weeks. Patriots might need to find another linebacker through the free agent market.

The Broncos winning drive with 1 minute to go was capped off by Demaryius Thomas catching a tipped ball down the left sidelines by FS Steve Gregory. When approached about the catch, Gregory said, "I knew I should have slammed the ball to the ground, but if I intercepted it, we could have won the game. It's a decision that you have little time to make and it's a 50/50 shot of making the right one, apparently I was wrong in this case."

Coach Gerard was asked about what he felt about today's game and he said, "A loss like this is tough. Losing in front of your own fans can really deflate the momentum we had with a three game winning streak. We're going to review the tape and take a look at what we can improve for next week in Seattle"

Mallett, while throwing no picks, was unable to find his receivers today. His 44% completion percentage was a disaster. He was just causing more work for himself. Due to him not completed his passes, he was unable to fully open up the running attack and hammer it home. Mallett will be working with his receivers this week to get into a rhythm again. When going up against your predecessor's rival and you don't perform, you just start hearing chants from the crowd "Where is Brady?!"

Brady is in Cleveland, but we're going to Seattle...See you next game!

Linebacker Dilemma

Foxboro, MA - With both Jerod Mayo and replacement Lofa Tatupu on the injured list, the Patriots made some moves today. They have released the following players:

Emmanual Acho LOLB (R)
Shawne Merriman RE

Merriman if you recall was a member of the San Diego Chargers back in his glory years. He's only 28 years old and can assist with the depth at the defensive end position.

Emmanual Acho is an approach to go young at Linebacker. The Patriots picked up a seasoned veteran to fill the void of Mayo, but that led to nothing. Emmanual Acho will be joining D'onte Hightower and Brandon Spikes to provide run and short game support.
