Wow, Stanford has really struggled. Should be a nice win.

Re: Bear Territory | Cal Golden Bears [NCAA '14]

Golden Bear fans will miss the dynamic duo of Kline and Bigelow as this will be their last regular season game together.

Golden Bears Wreck Cardinal; Win Tenth Game in Amazing Season

Stanford, CA | There was no need for a fourth quarter comeback this week. The legend of "Come from Behind" Zach Kline took rest this week, as a new dominant Zach Kline burst onto the scene. A Zach Kline who played a complete four quarters as opposed to just one.

Kevin Hogan on the other hand, well he sucked. Playing without his two starting receivers, Hogan looked alone out there on the football field and his passing numbers back that fact up. The Golden Bears teed off on Hogan throughout, and Stanford's signal caller couldn't adapt.

The Golden Bear offense scored on their first five possessions of the game to burst out into a 22-7 lead early in the third quarter and were on cruise control since.

With a bit of luck, the Golden Bears may have just played their way into the Pac-12 title game, and Stanford may have just clinched their first bowl-less season since 2008. That's exactly how this game played out.

Brendan Bigelow had a career day on the ground against Stanford as he rushed for 167 yards.

Cal's Offense played like a well oiled machine today and Zach Kline was a major reason why.

Re: Bear Territory | Cal Golden Bears [NCAA '14]

Civil War Upset; Oregon State Defeats Oregon. Golden Bears to Play for Pac-12 Title.

Oregon State ruins another Ducks season, this time permitting Oregon from playing for the Pac-12 title

Eugene, OR | It was simple math for the Oregon Ducks (8-4, 6-3 Pac-12), win and play for the Pac-12 title, lose and relinquish that right to the Cal Golden Bears (10-2, 7-2).

The USC Trojans clinched the Pac-12 South virtually a long time ago and this years' Civil War matchup between Oregon State (7-5, 5-4) and Oregon was going to inform the Trojans who they were to face. Oregon State jumped out to a 14-0 lead on the strength of a Storm Woods TD run and an O Gwacham pass from Cody Vaz.

Although Oregon State chipped in three additional field goals, those 14 points were all that they needed.

The Oregon Ducks never reached the endzone and suffered a 23-9 defeat to their hated rivals. Now they will be forced to watch a team the beat earlier in the season in Cal, try to avenge their 10-3 loss to USC from a few weeks ago.

Brandin Cooks was the man today as he reeled in five catches for 98 yards and kept the sticks moving.

Re: Bear Territory | Cal Golden Bears [NCAA '14]

Relatively Quiet Early Signing Day for Golden Bears Results in One Commitment

Ironton, OH | When push came to shove, Jonathan Smith finalized his short list to just two schools; Bowling Green and California. Smith had made it known throughout his recruiting process that proximity to home was very important which led everyone to believe the quarterback was heading to Bowling Green, just a four hour drive from his home in Ironton, OH. Instead he's heading out west to Berkeley, CA in hopes of meeting his Pro Potential and gaining lots of Television Exposure.

Smith is a four-star prospect and ranks as the #14 high school quarterback in the nation, but Cal head coach Sonny Spikes knows he got a steal.

"This kid could play from day one at a lot of schools, unfortunately for him we have a redshirt freshman under center, so he'll likely redshirt but his time is coming very soon. He'll soon be the face of Golden Bear football."

The 6'4", 221 pound quarterback now puts a damper on another recruit (Martin O'Neal) future with the Golden Bears program. While depth is always welcomed, at this point in their lives, Smith is light years ahead of O'Neal.

As recruiting takes a hiatus during bowl season, Cal has secured the commitments of 11 prospects, and are expected to bring in about nine more recruits before final signing day.

About this Game
It all comes down to this. For the chance to play in the Rose Bowl, Cal squares off against the USC Trojans in the Pac-12 Championship. Just 35 days prior, USC came into Berkeley and beat California in an ugly 10-3 game. Since then, USC has lost twice to Stanford and UCLA (with a win over Colorado sandwiched in between), and Cal hasn't lost since. USC head coach Lane Kiffin hasn't announced who will be starting for the Trojans in the Pac-12 title game, but after Cody Kessler's performance the first time these two teams faced off, if Wittek is able to shake off his tailbone injury he'll likely get the start. Cal is going to have to find some offense though, if they expect to play in the Rose Bowl in January.

Meeting this Season
USC 10 -- 3 Cal

Herbstreit's Pick: USC
