Miners’ 17 Point Lead Caves In,
Runners Turn Huge 4th Quarter Into Victory
Trailing 20-3 in the third quarter, the Texas-San Antonio Roadrunners looked like they were heading for defeat in their first Conference USA game, and a third straight loss since beginning the season with a victory at New Mexico. As UTSA head coach Larry Coker had promised, we didn’t get to see Eric Soza reach 4 first half picks like he did at Arizona last week. Coker gave him the hook when the count reached 2, and he was 2-for-8. Those interceptions helped the UTEP Miners take a 17-3 lead, which expanded to 20-3 with the UTSA offense still struggling with backup Tucker Carter under center. Carter also threw a pair of picks, but then settled down so well the he brought the Runners back from the grave. The rally began unimpressively with Sean Ianno’s 42 yard field goal seemingly doing nothing more than make it a two-touchdown game heading into the fourth quarter. But the fourth quarter is where the Runners exploded, beginning with Carter’s 21 yard touchdown pass to Kam Jones, who finished the game with a school-record 174 receiving yards. On the first play after the kickoff, Crosby Adams picked off a wide receiver screen and bolted into the end zone, and just like that, the game was tied. After the Miners were forced to punt, Carter and Jones put UTSA on top with a 56 yard hookup. UTEP QB Jameill Showers tried making the same throw that Adams turned into a pick-six, and Adams robbed him again. This time the turnover was converted into an Ianno field goal and a 10 point advantage at 30-20. Showers collected himself and engineered a scoring drive that was capped by a 1 yard run by Nathan Jeffery, but he suffered a mild concussion scrambling to the 1 on the previous play. After a failed onside kickoff attempt, the Runners would have been facing a 4th and 3 at the UTEP 36, but a Miner defender was flagged for yanking Jones’ facemask. Thanks to that infraction, the Runners were able to boost their lead to 33-27 with Ianno’s 33 yard kick with just 53 seconds left. Now all UTSA had do do was avert the disaster of giving up a touchdown to the Miners with backup Carson Meger in for Showers. Meger was not up to the task, and after a four-play turnover on downs, Carter took a knee to seal the win.

It took the Runners until the 4th quarter to find the end zone, but Kam Jones’ first TD catch ignited a rally.
Pick-six, tie game.
Jones’ 56 yard reception gave the Runners a 27-20 lead.
Very nice layouts, liking all the in depth feel this dynasty has. And added bonus for me is that your playing coach mode which is how I play, so ill def be following.
A return to non-conference play threatens to drop the Roadrunners back below .500. Houston's not as good as it was under Kevin Sumlin, but it's still got better athletes than UTSA.

Thanks for checking in. Glad you like it.
I tried "true coach mode" (vs. just using auto pass) for the Houston game. One thing that was very different was how often your QB scrambles.
The Houston Cougars have knocked UTSA back down below .500 with a 21-7 win at the AlamoDome. Tucker Carter got the start at quarterback for the Roadrunners this week, and threw another long touchdown pass to Kam Jones, but he struggled with his accuracy. Carter completed only 9 of 24 pass attempts and was temporarily relieved by demoted starter Eric Soza. The running game never got going, either, altogether making it a tough day for the UTSA offense. Carter’s 69 yard strile to Jones came on the first play from scrimmage after a 72 yard punt return by Markeith Ambles had put the Cougars up 14-0. The score was still 14-7 when Larry Coker decided to see if a quarterback change would put a spark into his offense. Soza managed to complete 4 of 6, but the sixth attempt was an interception that preceded Houston’s drive to the only score of the second half, and Carter was reinserted into the lineup. The final score had a chance to be a more lopsided 33-7, but Houston’s kicker missed all four of his field goal attempts.

Aside from his touchdown pass, Tucker Carter had more success running than he did throwing.
