Players departing after 2013 season

Josh Schaffer, an 83 OVR wide receiver, is the highest-rated player
Western Michigan is losing.

Western loses nobody to
early draft entry, transfer

KALAMAZOO, Mich. — As a red-shirt sophomore, wide receiver Jaime Wilson is technically eligible to enter the NFL Draft early.

It was Western Michigan coach B-Dawg’s only concern regarding his existing personnel as he headed into the offseason, though his rules would’ve allowed him to try everything to talk the 80 OVR wide receiver into staying.

It won’t be an issue.

Wilson is staying put and no other Broncos decided to leave for NFL riches or more playing time elsewhere, so the only losses are due to used-up eligibility (not necessarily graduation, because how many of these kids will actually graduate?). Wilson had 65 catches for 1,237 yards and 10 touchdowns, stats that sometimes trigger an early defection, even if his OVR would make him dead on arrival when the draft class was exported.

The most glaring hole is at halfback, as the Broncos will lose four of their five players at that position. B-Dawg already has in-season commitments from two three-star halfbacks.

Transfers after 2013 season

Dennis Norfleet appeared in all 13 of Michigan’s real-life games in 2012, but didn’t get an
offensive stat in 2013 in this ’nasty.

Wolverine running back Norfleet
transfers to Western Michigan

ANN ARBOR, Mich. — Western Michigan’s running back issue may have just been solved, though the Broncos will have to wait a year to try out their new toy.

The Broncos will still have to rely on untested, low-OVR players to lug the rock in 2014, but their ground game got a huge lift for 2015 when Michigan sophomore Dennis Norfleet transferred to Western Michigan. He must sit out a year before playing.

Norfleet played in all 13 of Michigan’s real-life games in 2012 on special teams and two at running back, gaining 13 yards on two carries. He didn’t get an offensive stat in 2013 in this dynasty

Note that distinction: An OFFENSIVE stat. For some reason, he had two tackles (not unreasonable if he played special teams) and ONE SACK!

In real life, Michigan is moving him to wide receiver, but that change didn’t get on the first version of the Operation Sports community rosters.

“His OVR is about where our guys were last year, but the big difference is he’s got three years left to improve his rating and two to play, while those guys were seniors,” Western coach B-Dawg said. “This is an immediate upgrade, plus it allows us to red-shirt the halfbacks we recruited.”

Norfleet, who played high school football at Detroit King, is 77 OVR with 87 SPD, 64 BTK, 79 CAR and 71 CTH.

With Norfleet on board, B-Dawg will no longer pursue halfbacks in offseason recruiting, as the Broncos now have four on their 2014 roster.

The only remaining recruiting targets are CB-70 Robert Beck of Escanaba, Mich. (67 OVR), DT-72 B.J. Rodgers of Flint, Mich. (63 OVR) and CB-131 Travis Cox of Oshkosh, Wis. (60 OVR). Western is a close second for Beck and Rodgers, and has a huge lead for Cox.

B-Dawg will add no new targets in the offseason, so the rest of the recruiting season will be pretty uneventful.

Norfleet? Now that's a fun name! Hopefully you can get him more than 13 yards on the ground this year!

Re: B-Dawg's Western Michigan Broncos: Unfinished bidnezz

BDawg, good to see you are doing another Dynasty report this year. I remember reading your Detroit Lions Franchise from about 10 years ago with Shaun Alexander and Michael Strahan (I think I PM'ed you once about that lol).

Anyways, good luck with the Dynasty, I'll definitely be reading along.

As badly as I run the ball, it may take quite a few carries for me to get 13 with him.

BTW, I just noticed (and had forgotten) that he has to sit out a year before playing in 2015 and 2016. I edited my report.

Any time we can get a Big Ten-caliber player at Western, he has a chance to make a big impact.

Thanks, mang. Yep, that was Madden 2003 and I used a fantasy draft for my first team. I think Alexander was my first pick and Strahan was my second pick.

2014 recruiting report

Western’s 2014 recruiting class
offers little help, ranks 114th

KALAMAZOO, Mich. — B-Dawg is going to have to hope for some nice training results if his Western Michigan is going to improve in 2014.

The recruiting season merely filled gaps on the team, as nobody looks like an immediate impact player. That’s what happens when your recruiting class ranks 114th out of 126 teams in the country.

Nobody in the class is rated higher than 68 OVR. Freshman halfbacks John Brady and Jason Reed, both 68 OVR, are in the mix to start, depending on how red-shirt freshman Fabian Johnson progresses.

B-Dawg added only two more recruits during the offseason, DT-72 B.J. Rodgers of Flint, Mich. and CB-131 Travis Cox of Oshkosh, Wis.

When recruiting ended, the CPU added some players to Western’s class, which pissed off B-Dawg. His recruiting settings don’t allow the CPU to recruit for him, so he’ll cut those players. It does skew the recruiting ranking, though.

In the biggest recruiting coup for the Mid-American Conference, Bowling Green signed Devon Harris of Campbell, Ohio, the top-rated cornerback in the nation. Harris is 75 OVR. He chose Bowling Green over Ohio, Kent State and Michigan State.

Re: B-Dawg's Western Michigan Broncos: Unfinished bidnezz

Hopefully one of the incoming recruits can step up! It seems like Norfleet is going to be in the high 80's when he plays next season. Also, I'm pretty sure you have 1 and 2 mixed up with 4 and 5 for the player's prestige on the top recruiting classes.
