The Jets are absolutely the most improbable 4-0 team this season, winning on the road against New England, and then the miracle comeback against Tennessee a week ago. Kirk Cousins seems to be gaining more confidence as each game goes by, and the defense is a fierce as it's been under Rex Ryan.
The Jets Win If...They continue to force turnovers. They've forced 11 through 3 games, and are averaging 4 sacks a game. They are getting after the quarterback and forcing mistakes. They will need to do that against Matt Ryan if they want to win.
The Falcons Win If...They protect Ryan, and limit mistakes. If they can move the ball and score touchdowns without settling for field goals they should be able to defend their home turf.
Disgruntled wide receiver Santonio Holmes finally got his wish after a long and tumultuous offseason and beginning to 2013, by being dealt Saturday afternoon to Cleveland.
The Jets sent Santonio Homes and their 2014 5th round pick to Cleveland in exchange for Cleveland's 2014 1st Round Pick. It was rumored the Jets were trying to acquire wideout Josh Gordon, but were unable to come to an agreement which included the 22 year old receiver in the deal.
In response to the open spot on the 53 man roster the Jets picked up free agent Brandon Tate, signing him to a one year , $680,000 contract. This leaves a rather large hole at the top of the Jets depth chart at receiver. Second year receiver Stephen Hill becomes the top target, and should see a rotation of Clyde Gates, Jeremy Kerley and Tate rotate opposite him.
The Jets will now have two first round picks, and with a hole at receiver and a need at linebacker and guard, could fill two huge needs in the first round quickly.
Turner Has Career Day, as Jets Handle Falcons
Turner's 3 TD performance powers Jets in laugher
Just over two months ago Michael Turner was handing in his playbook and gathering his belongings from his locker in Atlanta. Yesterday he was playing football in the Georgia Dome, but for the visiting New York Jets. And making his former employers pay for giving him the boot.
Turner returned to Atlanta and powered the Jets offense with 222 yards rushing on 34 carries, adding 35 yards receiving on three catches and 3 total touchdowns in a performance that made Atlanta fans cringe at the thought that this was their running back.
Current Atlanta back Stephen Jackson was held to 33 yards on 17 carries, and was not a factor. The Jets dashed out to a 17-0 lead after a Dee Milliner interception was capped with a Geno Smith 6 yard touchdown run. Atlanta came storming back to cut the lead to 17-14, but gave the Jets too much time.
Turner would make them pay, scoring from 11 yards out on a well thrown ball by Kirk Cousins. Cousins had a solid game, throwing for 259 yards and a score, and did not turn the ball over at all. The New York passing offense barely seemed to miss Santonio Holmes, who was traded on Saturday to Cleveland for their first round pick.
Ryan and the Falcons offense were let down by the sheer amount of drops by receivers who were wide open. Seven drops on balls that would have been first downs may not have changed the winner, but absolutely influenced the outcome.
