Re: The Coaching Career of Marques Tuiasosopo (NCAA 14)
Following Home Win, UC Davis Nab 8 This past week the UC Davis Aggies hosted 23 high school and junior college recruits in hopes that a home win would go a long way towards their recruiting class. Just days after earning the win, they got their answer in the form of 8 commits, and a majority of them fill a huge hole that Coach Gould was staring at. With 4 seniors graduating from the offensive line and not good depth behind them, that was one of the serious holes trying to be filled. There was already a commit earlier this year from a 2* JUCO offensive guard, but now 7 more will join him. Offensive Tackles This was the biggest group out of the new recruits as 5 of them are listed as offensive tackles. Two of them, however, are really big guys who could fill the middle of the line as well. The only 3* recruit is Josh Doyle out of Redding, California standing in at 6'4, 273 and is a pass blocking type. The other two smaller tackles are 2* Brett Paris out of San Bernardino, CA standing at 6'6 278 and 2* Arthur Johnson out of Hacienda Heights, CA standing at 6'3 275. The jury is still out on these two, but they might end up being just depth guys in the line. The two biggest offensive tackles that committed are also the best run blockers out of the group (go figure) and will probably be looking at the right side of the line and/or eventually move into the middle of the line. The first is 2* Bobby Lacey out of Burbank, CA standing at 6'6 299 and the second is 2* Brian Scott out of Ravenna, OH standing at 6'6 321. Scott was intriguing as the Ohio native had UC Davis as his #1 right from the get go. Centers The last two offensive linemen that gave their commit to the Aggies were centers; one a junior college player and the other a high schooler. The guy that will be looked at to start is 3* Tommy Stewart out of Azusa, CA standing at 6'2 280. His pressumed backup will be 2* Kelly Young out of Cerritos, CA standing at 6'1 309. Stewart is a little more polished in terms of his overall blocking ability as he should be, while Kelly is raw but is good in terms of his impact blocking. Non Linemen The last recruit on the list of new commits is the only non offensive lineman, but he is another one of those out of staters that had UC Davis as their #1 to start the year. Standing at 6'3 199, 2* Brian Johnson is nice big safety coming from North Carolina, who is an ok coverage guy, but his best quality is his ability to lay the lumber. He may be a safety next year or he may be a linebacker, it really depends on a couple of the other recruits in the class.

Re: The Coaching Career of Marques Tuiasosopo (NCAA 14)
Laughrea Slips Early, Aggies Turn To Ground Game Davis, Calif. -- When the UC Davis Aggies took the field there was a sense that this could very well be a pounding that they would unleash upon Idaho, but when the rain started to pour, Coach Gould knew that things might get a little dicey. Just as Gould thought it was a tough game from the get go as Gabe Manzanares could barely find any room to run behind his offensive line, as his first 10 or so carries ended up going for an average of under 2 yards a run. The Aggies would then try and get things going through the air instead and made their first pass with ease. After that the next one sailed and it was a little rough from there. Laughrea would then proceed to throw 2 picks and the Vandals capitalized, kicking a 55 yard field goal when it was all said and done to go up 3 points. With Laughrea struggling really bad and really early, it was back to the run game and that's where it would stick as Coach Tui figured he might as well try and wear out the Vandals' defense if he could and maybe then things could open up for the offense. Manzanares would continue his under 2 yards per carry average, eventually raising it up to 2.7 as he rushed for 73 yards on 27 carries with a score. Laughrea would actually find himself late in the game and finish with a good 15/21 for 247 yards and a touchdown. As the run game continued to churn out yards, it was the UC Davis that was the story of the game as they wouldn't let Idaho do anything at all and consistently forced 3 and outs, blocked a kick, and recovered a fumble in the endzone for a touchdown. The Vandals would only manage to kick a field goal to start each half and also a touchdown, but that was in garbage time. For the second half of the game Manzanares got the chance to sit and Colton Silveria got the most carries he has gotten all year in a game as he was given first string duties for the remainder of the game. Silveria would continue to pound Idaho's defense 4 yards a carry and wound of gaining 81 yards on 20 carries and 2 scores. Kenny Brookins would also get some carries in the final minutes of the game and wound up with a season high for himself at 35 carries on 7 attempts and a score.

Re: The Coaching Career of Marques Tuiasosopo (NCAA 14)
Aggies Can't Recover From Laughrea Mistakes, Fall On Road Davis, Calif. -- Last week the UC Davis Aggies handily defeated the Idaho Vandals at home after a shaky start. Ultimately it was the defense putting up a brick wall against Idaho that allowed the run game to take over for the Aggies and let them coast to victory. On this day it seemed as if there was no defense on either side as the Eastern Washington Eagles and the UC Davis exploded offensively. Things got out to a bang for Eastern Washington as they played host to UC Davis and Vernon Adams quickly got his team into the redzone, but from there it was a methodical running attack that would put the Eagles up 7. Jimmy Laughrea would bring his team out on the field and look to match. Laughrea would find Cannon and King for big gains and quickly the game was tied up. The Aggies would put up a good stand and get the ball back, but it worked in Eastern Washington's favor as on the first offensive play Laughrea would throw a pick. From there, Vernon Adams would toss it around and find the endzone to go back up 7. That would seem to be the theme of the day as Vernon Adams would be absolutely fantastic playing probably his best game of the year as he didn't commit any turnovers and threw for a high percentage as he finished 22/34 for 275 yards and 3 TDs. The Eagles also had a pretty decent run game going but not like you would expect. Usually it's Vernon Adams running the ball, but as the Aggies spied him a lot, it was Mario Brown who did the heavy lifting today going up over 80 yards and a score. The game would go into the half with the Eagles up 10 at home, but that didn't last long as the Aggies would pull within 4 before both teams started swapping touchdowns. UC Davis would then begin the 4th quarter with a touchdown pass to Ryan O'Holleran, who caught 2 on the day, and put them up 3. The Aggies would then get the ball back on the 1 yard line after a defensive stand and look to go up 2 scores, however, on the second play Laughrea would throw his 3rd costly pick of the day and Eastern Washington would take it back the 1 yard for a pick 6. That would be the decisive blow as the Eagles would go then go up 10 and even though UC Davis would get 7 points back, there just wasn't enough time left on the clock at that point and they'd fall on the road.
