Draft Stories & Scouting
Team Needs: WR, TE, RG, RT, LE, RE, DT, MLB, CB, FS, K
Scouting Points: 450

There has been no scouting so far, no major stories have come through, but once I get 700 (3 more weeks) I will begin scouting. Hopefully by then there should be some stories to comb through and some people to start looking at.. Otherwise I will begin looking at CB, TE, and DT.

Coach's Corner
Injuries
  • KeJuan Roberts - WR - 70 Overall - Forearm Fracture, Out 4 Weeks
  • Devin Hester - WR - 77 Overall - Pulled Groin, Out 2 Weeks
Notes
Was a huge day last week for the offense. Derek Carr has to be more patient, after starting the year 5:0 TD:INT, he is now 6:6. Randall Cobb is having a huge year, but with the running game as on fire as it is right now there is no need to force the pass.

This was an awesome game. Just an absolute nail biter and we pulled off another victory tboost our record to 4-1!

The Offense today was fairly pedestrian, only totaling 348 yards of total offense, but our team got the yards when we needed to and it really came down to the wire on this one. Derek Carr had a pretty good game, throwing 18 of 32 passes for 192 yards 1 TD and 1 INT, and added 22 yards on the ground on only 2 carries. Once again Randall Cobb was at the top of the box score with 5 receptions for 44 yards, with Mychal Rivera tying him with 5 catches for 71 yards but neither got into the end zone; that was reserved for Kenbrell Thompkins whose only grab went for an 8 yard TD. Andre Ellington had another average day, rushing for 55 yards and 1 TD on 16 carries; the reason for his low usage was because I wanted to get the rookie Jamerius Harrison involved more, and I subbed him into a few formations and kept him in the entire time - he only was able to muster 42 yards on 13 carries however, so it was not a prolific performance for either back.

The Defense was the real star today. Rookie Middle Linebacker Anges Hadley is looking more and more like a Defensive Rookie of the Year candidate and busted up the Bengals for 8 tackles and 1 sack (he also had a forced fumble AND recovery but it was reversed on a Booth Challenge). Andy Dalton had a good day, throwing 18 of 21 completions for 246 yards, but failed to find the end zone and threw 1 INT. A.J. Green had a game-high 6 grabs for 58 yards, and Marvin Jones nabbed 5 balls for a game-high 110 yards. The Bengals were able only able to score on the ground, but couldn't get the yardage to back it up, as Gio Bernard ran 12 times for 43 yards for 1 TD, Jeremy Hill ran 8 for 24 yards, and the big play of the day for the Bengals was John Kuhn busting off a 36 yard TD rush early in the game.

Late in the game, with the Raiders down by 3 we got the ball back with just over 5 minutes left to play. Derek Carr had to lead the team down the field and save the day. It took us over 2 minutes to get 21 yards downfield and on 4th and 1, I decided to go for it on a Fake Punt Run and Marcel Reece took the ball just over the yellow line. Next set of plays were a few 1st down plays, 3 10+ yard plays and then Derek Carr went down with a Bruised Sternum and could not re-enter the game. When Matt Schaub took the field I got quite nervous and wanted to run the ball but I was at the 21 yard line and only had a minute and twenty-five seconds to get there. After a failed goal line rush by Andre Ellington (in which the game was ALMOST blown thanks to an Ellington fumble) I called a no-huddle and decided to call a very ballsy End Around to Randall Cobb who waltzed into the end zone from 2 yards out with 19 ticks on the clock. The Bengals got the ball and I immediately went into Quarter, Prevent defense. Amazingly thanks to an absolute fail on my part Marvin Jones was wide open for a 59 yard reception which put them well within our side of the field. After the timeout Andy Dalton tried for the end zone, but was intercepted by Tarell Brown in the end zone and the game was over.

4-1 BABY!!!

Not a great day offensively for us last week, but a hell of a day on the defensive side of the ball. I am beyond happy with our teams performance. However, Andre Ellington did not have a great day rushing and neither did backup Jamerius Harrison and only managed to combine for a total of 97 yards on 29 carries.

A tough pill to swallow for the Raiders today losing what should have been a sealed up win, but thanks to an absolute blown coverage by free agent pickup Kendrick Lewis led to the Chargers winning touchdown with under a minute to play.

The Offense today was performing well until Andre Ellington left the game with a Bruised Shoulder Labrum and missed the rest of the game, once this happened there was a lull in production and we couldn't put up anything. Ellington was on his way to another big game before the injury posting 75 yards on just 12 carries with a TD. Backup Jamerius Harrison notched a solid 39 yards on just 9 carries but couldn't get the same impact as Andre and it showed. Derek Carr had a subpar game again, throwing for 237 yards and 1 TD and 1 INT - Randall Cobb being the big benefactor again today tallying a season-high 10 catches for 119 yards, and threw down an absolutely perfect block on Kenbrell Thompkins' 38 yard TD reception.

The Defense was actually very good until the end of the game. Once again, Rookie of the Year candidate Anges Hadley boasted a team-high 9 tackles and notched a forced fumble AND recovery on the same play - this kid is the real deal. Philip Rivers had an unbelievable day, throwing only 2 incompletions (25/27) for 267 yards, and 2 TDs with 0 turnovers. Keenan Allen was the big target today catching 8 balls for 127 yards, including the game-changing 59 yard pass late in the 4th that brought the Chargers well within scoring distance with under a minute to go. Ryan Mathews had a great game on the ground putting up 84 yards on 17 carries, but after his first carry that went for 20 yards, he looked very quiet; so I give the victory to our front seven once again.

Slider Changes*****
So I have been finding it extraordinarily easy to run on the computer and defend the run, so I am making a little change to my sliders - this is just for my franchise and not for my slider set, that is just the base set for people to use, this is just for my franchise so it's tailor-made for my skill set..
  • User Rush Blocking: Was:52 ---- Now: 49
  • CPU Rush Blocking: Was: 49 ---- Now: 53
Injuries
  • T.J. Carrie - CB - 73 Overall - Foot Fracture, Out for 4 Weeks
  • KeJuan Roberts - WR - 70 Overall - Forearm Fracture, Out 2 Weeks
Notes
Derek Carr really needs to break out of this funk he's been in lately. Aside from Randall Cobb nobody else has been able to get anything going, and I really need to make sure I don't force any more passes into coverage. Thankfully Andre Ellington will not miss any time with his injury and should bounce right back to his #1 Rushing self.

What a nail biter; cannot believe I couldn't get the damn timeout called after Cobb came down with that absolutely clutch reception as time expired. We were WELL within Janikowski's Field Goal range but I could not hit the Timeout button quick enough before the 0:00 came across the screen.

The Offense was lackluster again, especially on the Passing side of the ball; I don't know what is happening with Derek Carr but he is regressing and I am really thinking about looking at a QB in the draft. Carr finished the game with 202 yards passing 0 TDs and 1 INT and added only 15 yards on the ground on 2 carries. He really couldn't get passes completed when he needed to, but late in the game he started to heat up. Randall Cobb had a big day again, nabbing 7 catches for 87 yards, with Kembrell Thompkins right behind him at 6 nabs for 42 yards. Andre Ellington had a great day on the ground, even with the slider change, putting up 75 yards on 20 carries, with backup Jamerius Harrison only able to run for 11 yards on 7 carries, but did manage to find the end zone.

The Defense was below average today, and we ended up with the loss thanks to the lackluster final drive. Chase Daniel had a great day in the pocket, throwing for 259 yards but did not have a score. There were no big receivers on the day, but the top receivers for Kansas City were Derek Crisp (6/55/0), Jamaal Charles (5/45/0), and Kellen Winslow (4/72/0). Jamaal Charles had a big day on the ground putting up 82 yards on just 15 carries and found the end zone 2 times.

On that final game-winning drive from Kansas City Chase Daniel was able to just slice through our secondary and drive down the field extremely quickly.Once they scored the Field Goal there was only 8 seconds left. After a squib kick which brought the clock down to 7 seconds we were able to run 1 play to get into Field Goal range. I was able to hit Randall Cobb for a big 28 yard gain, putting us well within range, but the clock was at 1 second left when he hit the ground and as I was attacking the Timeout button, time expired and the game was over. We should've forced OT but thanks to game error, we got the L instead.

Notes
With the slider change Ellington looked a little more down to earth, but I am not going to give up on this rushing attack, however I really do need to do a better job at passing the ball.Randall Cobb is still killing it as a member of the Raiders but Derek Carr is definitely faltering in his sophmore season.

Don't give up on Carr too quickly! In past franchises I've made this mistake. Did a fantasy draft once and had Brett Favre. Once he retired I gave up on Rivers way too quickly because I couldn't stop throwing INTs w/ him. The guy I replaced him with was 10X worse lol.

Oh I'm not giving up on him, I just think he needs some serious confidence boosters and one or two BIG games - which my next game versus the Jets I am flipping the script and going with a Pass Heavy attack. I have much higher priorities in the upcoming draft over a backup QB.. But oh man, I could imagine kicking yourself in the butt after dropping Rivers haha

Yeah this season is going really well so far. The last couple of losses have been tough but these games are so good and so close its amazing to play them! Definitely want to see Carr turn it around but the addition of Randall Cobb is certainly having a major impact on the passing game.. Just you wait until this next week is over - I am going Pass Heavy and I want to see Cobb with at least 10 receptions, and Carr is going to throw 40+ for (I'm hoping) 300+ yards for the first time this season.
