Re: ONE. FINAL. RUN.

Patriots Report

First Quarter Summary

Offense
The offense hasn’t played as well as we would like to see. They are struggling to run the ball consistently and have scored just three total rushing touchdowns. New England is seventh in total yardage, 2nd in total offensive yardage, 2nd in passing yardage and 11th in rushing yards. They lead the league with 91 first downs.

Brady struggled with turnovers, throwing six so far. He threw three touchdowns and zero picks against the Eagles, so that’s a good sign.

Gronkowski and Edelman have been what we expected for the most part, though it would be nice to see them both get into the endzone more. Brandon LaFell is averaging less than 4 receptions per game, that needs to come up for certain. Aaron Dobson has seemingly emerged as the deep threat we’ve been hoping for for years. He is second behind Gronkowski with 262 yards on just 13 receptions for an average of 20.2 yards per catch. Dobson is tied for second on the team with two scores.

Defense
The defense has played well overall. The team is third in the league in total yards allowed and first in passing yards allowed. They are 25th in rushing yards allowed, due mostly to their struggles last week against Philadelphia’s dynamic rushing offense.

New England has allowed the least points in the league and they’re number one in sacks. They only have one interception, which is tied for last in the league.

Special teams
Gostkowski has hit all five of his field goal attempts and all of his extra point attempts. The majority of his kickoffs have been touchbacks.

Rookie punter Barry Ferrell has only punted a few times but he holds the league lead in average per punt at 43.8. None have his punts have been returned.

Spencer Greer, the undrafted rookie runningback who has handled the bulk of the return duties, is only averaging 20.2 yards per kick return, one of the lowest in the league. His punt return average is 10.0, third best in the league. Greer doesn’t seem to be a threat to break one but he makes good choices and always seems to make a good move to pick up some extra yards. If the team wants a little more in the return game they may look to get Edelman back there some more going forward.

Overall
The bottom line is that the Patriots have started off 4-0. They have had some struggles in getting there but at the end of the day wins and losses are the only thing that matters. The offense needs a bit more balance and to start scoring more points. The defense needs to tighten up against the run and get some takeaways.

Re: ONE. FINAL. RUN.

Glad you started this up, djp. I hope you get that SB victory. Looking at the schedule I can't help but salivate, it seems like every year in fact looking at the NE Pats schedule you just go jeez, half of that slate is total pansies.

I hate that the Seahawks signed Britt and Hakeem Nicks, those guys are the furthest thing from their type of guy. Oh well. lol

Great start annhialating (sp) Buffalo. Is it just me, or is the NFL just 100X more fun when Gronk is healthy as he was this year? Good to see him get a pair of TD. Looks like a great game was enjoyed against Dallas, although hopefully no controller throwing.

"RICHARD SHERMAN SECURED A SEAHAWKS VICTORY WITH A LATE PICK OF KAEPERNICK"

seems familiar.... Nice job getting to 4-0, and interesting to see Barkley as the starter, I've been proven totally wrong on him. The fact that he couldn't beat out Sanchez this year is just utterly disturbing to me because i really thought he would be a good QB. sorry, off topic.

At the quarter mark, the only thing that needs to be addressed is for Brady to take better care of the football, let's go Tom! Otherwise the team is rolling.

thanks for the comment, always nice to see something this in depth.

playing in the AFC East definitely makes the road to the playoffs a bit easier for us, with six very winnable games each year

i wasn't a big fan of Seattle's moves but I could see Nicks happening somehow. Not Britt though.

it was great getting Buffalo pretty easily, good to start any season like that, and yeah Gronk is probably one of the most fun players in the league and in madden in my opinion.

the Dallas game was a rollercoaster ride, no controller throwing but there was some "language"

sherman owns kaepernick

the 4-0 start is huge

i was also surprised to see barkley as the starter, sanchez is in buffalo and foles it out for a bit

tom has been asked to clean up the turnovers and seemed to behave in the last game.

thanks again man
