Year 1 (2014), Week 3, Indianapolis at Jacksonville

Indianapolis HB Vic Ballard punches in a second half score / LB D'Qwell Jackson strips Bortles on a sack

No Luck, No Problem: Hasselbeck Leads Colts to 27-10 Win

QB Luck misses game with hip pointer | Bortles "ok" in first start | Jaguars can't stop "dink and dunk" offense

AP Jacksonville – The Indianapolis Colts, despite being without star QB Andrew Luck for the majority of the game, were still able to down the Jaguars 27-10 in divisional play. Luck was injured midway through the first quarter on a sack. He suffered what team trainers are calling a hip pointer. He would miss the remainder of the game but is not expected to miss any additional time. Veteran QB Matt Hasselbeck did an efficient job leading the Colts in a "dink and dunk" style offense that frustrated the Jaguars defense.

Knocked Out: QB Andrew Luck missed most of the game after suffering a hip pointer on this hit from DE Tyson Alualu.

QB Blake Bortles made his first NFL start in place of the injured Henne. Bortles had a tough time getting drives together but overall had an "okay" day throwing for over 125 yards and a score. His only turnover came on a sack where he was stripped by LB D'Qwelll Jackson.

Despite being largely ineffective for the majority of the game, the Colts refused to abandon the running game as HB Ahmad Bradshaw and HB Vic Ballard combined on the day for 37 carriers and only 86 yards. Each back did score though.

The Jaguars were held scoreless in the first half as the defense struggled to get off the field with Indianapolis controlling the time of possession. It was more of the same in the second half as the defense began to wear down giving up a few larger plays on the ground. The only touchdown for Jacksonville came in the fourth quarter as Bortles found WR Cecil Shorts III on a short slant pattern.

"The Colts did a great job of executing an efficient and clock controlling offense. It was very frustrating to watch." -- Jaguars Owner Dan Clayton

The Jaguars will be on the road next week as they travel to San Diego to take on the winless Chargers. San Diego is coming off of a 20-13 road loss to the Buffalo Bills.

Definitely a solid debut out of Bortles. He played solid and didn't throw any interceptions. Really can't ask for much more than that. Our offense has really lacked any big play ability this season which has been our Achilles heel. We end up relying on our defense, who is out there too long. All things we will have to address in the coming offseason. Thanks for following along fellas!

Jaguars | Posluszny Suffers Shoulder Tear in Week Three Loss
23 Spetember 2014

ESPN's Adam Schefter reports that Jaguars MLB Paul Posluszny (82 ovrl) suffered a torn shoulder labrum in the team's week three loss to the Indianapolis Colts. Posluszny left the game late in the fourth quarter and did not return to play. An MRI confirmed that the veteran middle linebacker had suffered a minor muscle tear in the shoulder. He will not need surgery to repair the tear but is expected to miss at least three weeks rehabbing the injury. Fourth year MLB J.T. Thomas (70 ovrl) is expected to fill in during Posluszny's absence.

Year 1 (2014), Around the NFL, Recapping Week Three

The Morning After: Week Three Edition
Your Home for NFL Weekly News

NFL Headlines

1. Getting Defensive. Through the first three weeks, the New York Jets (2-1) have the number one ranked defense. They have given up only 27 points (9.0 ppg) and had a shutout in the first week of the season. While only time will tell if they can keep this trend going, Rex Ryan and the defense has the Jets looking like early season contenders. In their only loss of the season, the team surrendered 12 points.

2. The Poor Get Poorer. The Tennessee Titans (0-3), who are already wishing they could hit the restart button on this young season, were hit with more bad news this week. Star DE Jurrell Casey (96 ovrl) will miss at least the next three games with a broken thumb. The Titans have two divisional games in the next three weeks.

Tough break for your D which really can't afford to lose anyone. Maybe someone will step up.
