'NINERS ADD WR JEFF JANIS

The San Francisco 49ers have signed formern Packers receiver Jeff Janis to a one year deal. With Jerome Simpson suspended six weeks and both DeAndre Smelter and Drew Anderson on IR the team's depth at the position was questionable. Janis caught 2 regular season passes last season for Green Bay but had a solid preseason. Linebacker Shayne Skov was waived to make space.

KAEPERNICK STRUGGLES EARLY, VIKINGS ROUT 'NINERS

Santa Clara, CA -
"It certainly wasn't the way the wanted to open the season. That's for sure." New 49ers coach D.J. Porter said following the team's 34-13 beating at the hands of the Vikings.

Things started off poorly for the 49ers as both of their first two drives ended in three an outs. Minnesota scored on their second via a Teddy Bridgewater to Jarius Wright pass. Bridgewater would connect with Wright for a second score, in the second quarter. The Vikings took a 14-0 lead into halftime.

One promising drive for the 49ers ended when Vikings linebacker Zach Brown picked off a Kaepernick pass in the endzone.

The 49ers didn’t score until the third quarter, when Kaepernick ran it in himself from 3 yards out.

Bridgewater threw third quarter touchdowns to Kyle Rudolph and Charles Johnson and kicker Blair Walsh kicked a pair of fourth quarter field goals.

San Francisco did have a nice drive in the fourth that resulted in a Kaepernick touchdown pass to Torrey Smith.

Minnesota racked up 395 total yards of offense against the 49ers defense, which looked outmanned for most of the night. Adrian Peterson ran for 147 yards on 34 carries.

After struggling early Kaepernick finished 25 of 46 for 235 yards, a pick and a touchdown along with 29 yards on six rushes and the three yard touchdown.

Carlos Hyde carried just 14 times as the team was playing catch up but he did gain 61 yards.

The 49ers will face the Steelers next week in Pittsburgh. They were victorious over the Patriots Thursday night by a score of 27-17.

ANGRY BIRDS

St. Louis, MO -
Seattle tried to show the world that they are the team to beat as they strolled into St. Louis and manhandled the Rams by a score of 31-0. Nick Foles was harassed all day as he completed as many passes as times he was sacked. Foles managed to complete just eight of his eighteen pass attempts as he spent most of the day running for his life. He was picked off three times.

“It’s pretty hard to go through progressions and run your offense when you can’t block anyone. Very frustrating game for us. We’ve certainly got some work to do.” Jeff Fisher said following the loss.

On the other side of the ball Russell Wilson threw for 218 yards and a pair of touchdowns while only being sacked twice. He also ran for 33 yards and a score.

Marshawn Lynch carried 16 times for 79 yards and Fred Jackson picked up 57 yards on 18 carries. Doug Baldwin led all receivers with 88 yards on six receptions.

One odd statistic is that both of Wilson’s touchdown passes went to backs, Marshawn Lynch caught one from five yards out while Fred Jackson scored the other on an eight yard swing pass.

“He just gets it to whoever is open, he doesn’t play favorites and when he throws it he has confidence that whoever is on the other end of the pass will make a play.” Seahawks receiver Doug Baldwin said when asked about Wilson’s day.

Some potentially bad news for Seattle is that tight end Jimmy Graham left the game midway through the first quarter and did not return. St. Louis double covered Graham for much of the time he did play and held him without a catch. Graham’s injury will be evaluated Monday or Tuesday.

Todd Gurley made his debut for the Rams, carrying nine times for 36 yards. At receiver Kenny Britt led the team with 69 yards on four catches. James Laurinaitis racked up 14 tackles and Nick Fairley and William Hayes each recorded a sack.

Seattle’s defense had a field day with six different players recording at least half of a sack. Michael Bennett led the way with three. Bobby Wagner had two sacks and an interception along with nine total tackles, which led Seattle. Jeremy Lane picked off two passes, one of which he returned for a score.

Seattle at Green Bay, who just smoked Chicago at Soldier Field, next Sunday night, mark your calendars.

BIG BEN, STEELERS A TOUGH MATCHUP

This week the 49ers head out on the road to face the Steelers in Pitsburgh in a 1:00pm game. Pittsburgh is 1-0 after a win over the Patriots.

Players to Watch
Roethlisberger threw for 321 yards and a pair of scores against the Patriots, he was picked off once. Ben is always tough to bring down and makes plays where there seemingly isn’t one to make. He has plenty of weapons around him, namely Le’Veon Bell and Antonio Brown, two of he best at their respective positions.

Defensively Pittsburgh is not what they once were but Lawrence Timmons, Cam Heyward and Ryan Shazier still bring a powerful punch to the front seven.

SLOW START, LATE PICK SINKS ‘NINERS

Pittsburgh, PA -
With under a minute to play San Francisco had a real chance to win the game. Sitting on Pittsburgh’s five yard line Kapernick threw a jump ball to Anquan Boldin but the big bodied receiver couldn’t wrestle the ball away from Steelers’ corner Cortez Allen, who came down with the interception on the one yard line. Pittsburgh ran out the clock and held on to win 24-18.

Kapernick completed 23 of 37 pass attempts for 323 yards and ran three times for 25 yards and a score. Carlos Hyde carried 21 times for 77 yards. Vernon Davis was Kapernick’s favorite target, catching five passes for 122 yards. Reggie Bush had four receptions for 55 yards.

Defensively it was a tie between NaVorron Bowman, Tramaine Brock and Ahmad Brooks, all with six tackles each. The team did not record a sack.

Roethlisberger completed 24 of 33 passes for 277 yards and had touchdown passes to Martavis Bryant and Antonio Brown. Le’Veon Bell ran 18 times for 64 yards and a score. Bryant led the Steelers with seven receptions for 131 yards, Heath Miller caught six for 78 and Markus Wheaton had 37 yards on five receptions. San Francisco managed to slow down Brown for the most part, he gained just 28 yards on five receptions.

Shamarko Thomas led Pittsburgh with 14 tackles and also added a sack. Arthur Moats and Daniel McCullers combined for a key third down red zone sack of Kapernick that forced a field goal. Allen’s late interception was the only one of the game.

The 49ers now drop to 0-2 to start the season. They will travel to Arizona next week. The Cardinals are 1-1 with a home win over the Saints and a loss earlier today at the Bears.
