Redshirt him?!

This player is getting on the field day 1 my friend. I took Jean's height advantage for granted and we can desperately use more playmakers on offense. Someway, somehow, this young man will be playing in year 1.

Upgrading team speed has been a priority in the early going in recruiting; we aren't done with that yet (hopefully).

Thanks I.D....Hopefully this begins to make things right again. I'm pumped to see this player next season.

Haha, yes...if either of those things you just described happened in one of my games, that certainly would be enough cause to replay it. Thankfully, 14 seasons in, nothing egregious enough like that has happened up to this point. :::knocks on wood:::

In my experience, a guy with at least C- cth is more than competent enough hands-wise. Things get very dicey once they go down to D+/D...in fact, I pretty much don't recruit those guys. With Lawson's 4.32 40 time (95 spd rating I believe) and size, I think he should be good enough to make plays in the early going. We desperately need a playmaker and I believe he fits the bill.

You're right though, Jean was a cut above and it would be a mild surprise if he produces at that level, especially early on.

He will definitely get the opportunity. It'll be fun to parallel those two players during Lawson's career.

Thanks man...We must turn this thing around here in this matchup versus Miami. If we blow this one, then yeah, we probably can go ahead and chalk this one up as being a rebuilding year. Fortunately we still have time to turn it around and we do still have conference play to look forward to.

Haha, so do I. We've had quite a run of bad luck lately, so it was kind of a relief to finally get something to go our way.

A big part of our recent downfalls in recruiting has been due to the talent pool in Louisiana seemingly going down for a few years, but the last couple of seasons have been pretty good in terms of available good players in the area. There's no doubt that Lawson being Louisiana home grown gave us a big advantage over the competition and I'd also like to go ahead and pretend that he looked up to Ryan Jean in his youth .

Appreciate the feedback fellas!

Green Wave News Clips

Allen will get another chance to right the ship.

Tulane | QB Allen to start Saturday night
Thu, 14 Sep 2023 13:10:06 -0700
report courtesy Britt McHenry, ESPN.com

Britt McHenry of ESPN.com reports that Tulane head coach D. Geezy informed her late Wednesday evening, then again in the middle of the night, and then reiterated again early Thursday morning that junior QB Bryce Allen (89 ovr), the team's starting quarterback since his true freshman season, will indeed remain the starter for Saturday night's matchup versus #10 Miami at the Mercedes-Benz Superdome. The former blue chip prospect out of Colorado is off to a putrid start this season, throwing for just 381 total yards along with 1 touchdown and a whopping 7 interceptions while the Green Wave is off to an 0-2 start, their worst start since 2010.

"After looking at the tape and really studying things, what we kind of already knew going in was confirmed, and that's that Bryce gives us the best opportunity to win," said Geezy.

"In the end, we just feel like we have to do a better job of blocking up front and myself and (offensive coordinator) Curtis Byrd have to do a better job of putting him in position to succeed.

"Bryce is our quarterback and he will get us through this. We still think he can be a special player."

The third year starter began his career with a bang, throwing for 4,077 yards along with 33 touchdowns and only 17 interceptions as a true freshman in 2021. His play fell off drastically in 2022, as he threw for just 2,766 yards with 19 touchdowns and 19 interceptions as a sophomore before his stats torpedoed through two games this fall thus far.

Tulane | Team wants TE Parsons more involved
Thu, 14 Sep 2023 15:08:01 -0700
Eve Jewell of TulaneInsider.com reports that Tulane sophomore TE Ronnie Parsons (82 ovr) is expected to receive an increased workload as the team looks to improve its offensive efficiency after a slow start to the 2023 season. Parsons, a former blue chip recruit who was rated as the nation's #1 rated high school tight end the year he came out, has caught only one reception for 13 yards thus far this season.

Tulane | CB Keyes promoted to starter
Fri, 15 Sep 2023 12:07:31 -0700
Eve Jewell of TulaneInsider.com reports that after a solid start to the season, Tulane junior CB D.J. Keyes (71 ovr) has surpassed junior CB Brian Malone (74 ovr) on the depth chart and will start Saturday night's game versus #10 Miami. Keyes, a junior college transfer a season ago, had been operating as the team's dime cornerback through the season's first two games.

After Malone's struggles in the early going of the season, including allowing Notre Dame true freshman WR Anthony Robertson to catch 10 receptions for 149 yards in last week's loss, the team decided to demote the Arizona native. He will take over Keyes' dime corner role while sophomore CB Tyler Harrison (75 ovr) will remain the team's #1 cornerback and S/CB Jonathan Smith (75 ovr) will remain at nickel.

"We just didn't like what we saw on film last week from Malone and thought Keyes made a few nice plays in his limited action," said Wave defensive coordinator Steve Ellis.

"Looking at the tape, it seemed like Brian was always running behind his man and had trouble with his assignments. He is a much bigger and faster corner than D.J., but we think D.J.'s man coverage skills are a little more advanced and we play a ton of man."

Editors note for reader reference: Brian Malone 6-0 191 pounds (94 spd, 79 mcv, 74 zcv) | D.J. Keyes 5-9 170 pounds (88 spd, 83 mcv, 78 zcv)

Tulane | Surprise green-out called
Fri, 15 Sep 2023 07:10:01 -0700
Tammy Nunez of NOLA.com reports that Tulane head coach D. Geezy announced during Tulane's pep rally ahead of Saturday night's game versus #10 Miami that the team will be wearing its all-green uniforms and has asked all fans in attendance to wear green. Despite the all-green motif typically being reserved for the team's home rivalry games versus Alabama, LSU, and Southern Miss, Geezy is looking for any spark the team can get to dig themselves out of its 0-2 hole.

Game 3, Year 14 Preview (2023 season): #10 Miami Hurricanes at #19 Tulane Green Wave

GAME 3 PREVIEW

Courtesy

Latest Line (courtesy Bovada - Las Vegas):

....................Pick'em....................

2022: Former Wave RB Buck Johnson III's 40-yard touchdown run on a 4th and 1 carry with just 2:02 remaining made the score 35-31 and ended up being the game-winning touchdown.

Last Meeting: Last season at Hard Rock Stadium, then-#2 ranked Tulane made several big plays down the stretch en route to a razor-thin 35-31 victory over then-#10 ranked Miami. Former Wave RB Buck Johnson III finished the game with 105 rushing yards and 2 touchdowns, including the game-winning 40-yard touchdown run on a 4th down call with just over two minutes remaining. RB Tony Tompkins, then a true freshman playing in his home state of Florida, scored his first career touchdown versus the Hurricanes when he took a kickoff 93 yards for a touchdown to put the Green Wave on the board in the second quarter. Former Wave CB Garrett Shuler also had a big game, hauling in two interceptions and returning one for a touchdown as the Wave improved to 4-0 on the season.

2016: Tulane opened the game with a 4-play 74-yard drive which culminated with an 8-yard touchdown pass from QB Jamie Manning to TE Joel Bowers, giving the Green Wave an early 7-0 lead.

Last Meeting II: Seven seasons ago, the then-#17 ranked Tulane Green Wave stormed out to a 20-3 halftime lead before prevailing for a 27-13 victory versus then-#10 Miami in 2016 at then-named Sun Life Stadium, now Hard Rock Stadium. Former Wave QB Jamie Manning, then a true freshman, threw for 215 yards and 3 touchdowns, guiding his team to its 2nd win to start the year in what was their first of two trips to Sun Life Stadium that season, the second coming at the end of the year when the team won its first ever BCS National Championship. Former RB Brett Curtis ran for 134 yards and former star RB Reggie Moore finished with 96 yards from scrimmage and a touchdown.

Re: Coach Geezy in the Big Easy: Our City, Our Team | Part II - The Golden Age of Tul

I've been absent since he start of this season but I have to say I'm just as shocked as everyone else in the fashion you have started the season. Losing is one thing but getting embarrassed at home is totally different. I'm with a few others thinking that Obi should get some playing time to give the offense a little bit of a boost. Also, the WR is a great pickup but I will not make the mistake and think that any WR you sign will live up to the legacy of Jean.

Re: Coach Geezy in the Big Easy: Our City, Our Team | Part II - The Golden Age of Tul

Haven't been following this long enough to know who Jean was, but I'm probably gonna do some backtracking to find out.

Lawson looks like a great pickup. Receivers with size and freakish athleticism are a dime a dozen, and hopefully he'll develop into a Calvin Johnson-esque type of player. His hands and route running need some improvement, but you definitely can't teach athletic ability so he's got the tools to become a stud.

As for Allen, he's definitely had not a lot going for him so far, but I think sticking with him going forward is the right move. What a redemption story it would be if he comes back hot and beasts.

Re: Coach Geezy in the Big Easy: Our City, Our Team | Part II - The Golden Age of Tul

You signing all these 6-6 WRs makes want to fire up my game and just look for the tallest guy I can find and sign him. Man, that kid has some big shoes to fill once he hits campus but how the team looks between now and then could change a lot too so it'll be interesting.

I looked at Allen's numbers in the preview and almost spit out the water I was drinking. Hopefully the Green-Out will help him identify his teammates a little easier, though I do recall a certain O-Line letting this man have a full course meal of dirt and grass the last two games.

I don't want to see you go 0-3 to start the season, but part of me is saying "he's gonna start the season 0-3". Nothing in particular screams out to me to make me think Tulane will lose, but Miami's got a strong O-Line, some fast receivers, and did give you some issues last season. Not the mention the elephant in the room will be can Tulane get out of its own way with the turnovers and the sloppy start and get that W.

Good luck.
