Spartans offense bust out wild, Bronco's lose 56-17

East Lansing, MI- They say you are not supposed to play your games on paper, but if you were ever to play a game on paper, this is the game you would play. Everyone in the entire country, including Western Michigan players came in knowing this would not be pretty, and it wasn't.

Michigan State has future NFL talent all over the field, while Western Michigan might not have a single player that will succeed at the next level. Michigan State started out the game just how any team wants to, and that was with a long drive, finished by a Nick Hill rushing touchdown. Hill finished with 29 carries, going for 162 yards, and 4 touchdowns.

However, not everything is dark over in Western Michigan. Standout wide receiver Jaime Wilson had 9 catches, for 117 yards. The running game was also better under pass first offensive coordinator Archie Wagner, which surprised most of the fans, including myself.

Western Michigan Offensive Coordinator Archie Wagner spoke to us after the game, and said "We need to stay positive, and keep their heads up. Michigan State is going to be a good team, no doubt about it. They moved the ball well and didn't have mental errors. I was proud of them."

Western Michigan will have their home opener next week against Purdue. Purdue comes into the game with a 0-1 record after falling to Cincinnati 35-24. Vegas has opened the line at Purdue -6.

Re: Chasing down Dreams - Archie Wagner Coaching Legacy (NCAA14)

(Rob Henry drops back to pass)

Western Michigan loses game, Dareyon Chance for 4 Weeks

Kalamazoo, MI: In these early year games between teams that are looking to compete for their conference title, and teams that are looking to rebuild, the most important thing coming out of every game is staying healthy. Well, this was not one of those games as Western Michigan has lost one of its best offensive weapons for four weeks.

We all know that Western Michigan does not like to run the ball often, but when they do it usually goes for a good chunk of yards because most teams are playing the pass. Today in the 2nd quarter, Western Michigan running back Dareyon Chance broke off a 10 yard run, but came down with a stinger, and is listed out for at least four weeks. There is some good in this situation however, because the Broncos have 3 other senior running backs that will fill in.

This game wasn't just bad because Chance is injured, either. The Western Michigan Broncos also dropped their first home game of the season to the Purdue Boilermakers. Purdue is probably a bottom tier BIG team, so they feel like they had a shot at winning, and they did.

Things did not start out hot though, because Chance fumbled his first carry of the day, and Purdue turned it into seven points. Rob Henry is one of the best QB's in the BIG, and he showed that today, ripping apart a less than average secondary. He had 3 touchdowns, of two, seven, and two yards. However, it wasn't just the short passes that were working. Henry had three passes over 25 yards, and totaled 219 yards on 26-39 passing.

On the offensive side of the ball for the Broncos Tyler Van Tubbergen had himself a day once again. Tyler threw 23-37, and racked up 221 yards, also throwing a TD. He also made a mistake and had an INT. Fill in running back Brian Fields had 49 yards on 14 carries, and coaches were pleased with his vision. Tevin Drake made the most out of his few chances, and had a touchdown run.

Tyler Van Tubbergen's favorite target in todays game was once again Jaime Wilson. Wilson had 5 catches going for 41 yards, however he did drop a pass. Tight End Clark Mussman caught the only touchdown for Western Michigan, and had 36 yards on the day. We asked Offensive Coordinator about incorporating more Tight End pass routes and he answered with. "Yes, we are going to do that. After today, Clark showed me he is capable of being a big target, and that will help Tyler out, especially in the red zone." It sounds like teams better be getting some linebackers that can cover.

Western Michigan will have a tough matchup next week, as they travel to BYU. BYU comes in with a 1-1 record, with a win against Virginia, and a loss to #11 Texas. Vegas has opened the line at BYU -18.

In this weeks Coaches poll, 3 of the top 10 teams were inactive, and none of the teams fell out of the top 10. The only movement inside of it was Notre Dame and Oregon flipping after Notre Dame knocked off #18 Michigan, in Ann Arbor. Both Oregon State and Northern Illinois receive credit for the biggest jump, as they each gained 5 spots in this weeks poll. Oklahoma State received the biggest drop, after they went from being #12, to unranked. UCLA and Kansas State also fell out of the rankings. 3 new teams also join the top 25 this week.

Re: Chasing down Dreams - Archie Wagner Coaching Legacy (NCAA14)

I like how you're sticking to your scheme and your system despite the rocky start. Never change your attack after a measly loss. (Do it after three straight like I'm doing with the Vikings).

Well that probably means after this next week lol. BYU is gonna be tough, they have a good team, and well, we are Western Michigan. We aren't there yet, but we will be there. I like to have a challenge. Playing these better teams will prepare us for conference play. I like the way the offense has performed so far, but the loss at RB stings, even though we don't run a lot. Also, thanks for checking in, and #skolvikes

I don't feel so good tonight, so next update should be tomorrow, depending on how I am feeling. Sorry for the delay!

Nice dynasty, man. Having grown up in Kalamazoo, been to many Bronco games as fan and writer, I'm definitely going to dig this dynasty. Good work!
