Game Notes
First game of the season for both teams. Storm Jackson and his Gophers come in with a way better looking team. UNLV known for having a not so good football program is going to have to come into this game and put all effort to win. UNLV is the underdog as 84% of the nation voted for Minnesota to win this game.

Keys to win for Minnesota:
1.Ground and pound early. Use the good running game to work down the field on this weak UNLV defense.
2. Don't let the no huddle beat you. UNLV runs a lot of no huddle offense. Don't let them beat you this way.
3. Score touchdowns. Minnesota was a team last year that got into the red zone a lot and had to settle for field goals. Don't let that happen, score touchdowns.

Keys to win for UNLV:
1. Stop the run. Don't let this team run all over the defense. Make sure the linebackers keep the ball carrier behind the line of scrimmage.
2. Don't become one dimensional. Make sure your passing game is just as strong as your running game, and make sure both are successful.
3. Force turnovers. And get points off of these turnovers.

Minnesota dominates UNLV in season opener

MINNEAPOLIS, Minnesota-- The Golden Gophers opened up their season at home playing against the UNLV Rebles. Minnesota fans were excited to see what new coach Storm Jackson could bring to the table.
It Begun early for Minnesota when they scored a touchdown on their very first drive when freshman running back Rodney Smith ran in from seven yards out. The defense continued to push and forced a three and out on the second drive of the game. They ended up scoring a field goal on the next possession and later in the second quarter, freshman running back Rodney Smith scored yet another touchdown, this one just from one yard out. The Rebles would end up getting into field goal range and kicking a field goal before the half and they would be down 17-3.
In an interview with coach Storm Jackson at halftime, he said that "his team played well in the first half, and made a comment saying that everyone was getting a little taste of what the freshman running back was going to do this season"
The second half begun, and in what was a very long drive, Minnesota capped it off with a three yard run from Rodrick Williams Jr. and Minnesota would go up 24-3. UNLV answered right back with a quick drive that resulted in a twenty-two yard touchdown reception by Aaron Criswell and UNLV would move it down to a 14 point deficit. Minnesota begun the fourth quarter with a field goal, and in an attempt to score more points, UNLV quarterback Blake Decker threw a deep pass that was intercepted by Briean Boddy-Calhoun and returned for a sixty nine yard touchdown.
Minnesota ended up winning 37-10 in what looked like a great showing both offensively and defensively despite playing a weaker school. Storm Jackson in a post game presser said "We came in and lit a fire from the very beginning and we kept momentum throughout the game. This Minnesota team is one of the most underrated teams in the NCAA and we're gonna prove to the critics we're a top 25 team"
