2017 SEASON - WILD CARD WEEKEND

BILLS BOUNCE TEXANS
Bills Win First Playoff Game Since 1995

Tyrod Taylor threw for 323 yards and three touchdowns in the Bills victory.

1/8/18
Buffalo, NY (AP) - The Buffalo Bills advanced to the AFC Divisional Playoff after pulling away for a 39-23 victory over the Houston Texans at Wegmans Field in the AFC Wild Card Game on Sunday afternoon. Tyrod Taylor threw for 323 yards amd three scores to lead the Bills to their first playoff win in 23 years.

Shaq Lawson celebrates a fourth quarter safety, tackling Brock Osweiler in the endzone to seal the victory.
Houston (11-6) came out and attacked from the first play, as Brock Osweiler hooked up with Will Fuller on the game's first play for a 36 yard gain. Three plays later he found Fuller again, for a 12 yard score as the Texans went up 7-0 just 2:00 minutes in.

The Bills (11-6) wasted no time in responding. After a two yard loss on their first play, LeSean McCoy took a screen pass and ran untouched, 73 yards for the game tying touchdown.

Craig Nesbit would kick field goals of 42 and 45 yards for the Texans as they opened up a 13-7 lead midway through the second quarter on a cloudy, cold day in downtown Buffalo. Dan Carpenter would cap off an 11-play, 46 yard Bills drive with a 39 yard field goal of his own.

Late in the half, Kevin Johnson would make what looked like could be the play of the game. Sammy Watkins caught a pass from Tyrod Taylor, but was hit and fumbled. Johnson picked up the ball and ran it back 40 yards to put the Texans up 20-10, silencing the crowd.

Taylor would respond, as he led the Bills right down the field. He capped the 63-yard drive with a one yard keeper to pull the Bills to within 20-17 at the half. The five play drive took just 1:15 and really helped get the crowd back into it. It also gave the Bills some confidence, for a team that limped to a (2-4) record down the stretch.

Osweiler and Taylor had great first halves. Osweiler went 15 for 18 for 193 yards and a TD. Taylor was 12 for 16 for 190 yards, with a rushing and passing TD.

The Bills would grab the lead after halftime as they drove 78 yards in 13 plays, scoring on a beautiful 24 yard pass from Taylor to Robert Woods. They would extend the lead to 31-20 early in the fourth as Taylor threw his third touchdown pass on the afternoon. This one went to rookie tight end NaQuann Newell, who made a leaping grab in the end zone.

A third Craig Nesbit field goal cut the Bills lead to just one possession halfway through the fourth. After a big stop from the Texans defense, rookie punter Tomas Amaro pinned the Texans deep with a punt that sailed out of bounds at the two yard line. On the next offensive play, Shaq Lawson tackled Brock Osweiler in the end zone for a safety to put the Bills up by 10.

Dan Carpenter would add a couple of late field goals as the Bills advanced, winning their first playoff game since 1995, when they defeated Miami 37-22 at Rich Stadium in Don Shula's final game as coach of the Dolphins.

Taylor spread the ball around on Sunday. Charles Clay led the Bills with six catches for 84 yards. Sammy Watkins caught 5 for 75 yards, Robert Woods caught 4 for 37 and NaQuann Newell caught 4 for 32 yards. Rookie defensive end LeVeon Chavous was dominant, making seven tackles, recording 2.5 sacks and forcing a fumble.

The Bills will hit the road for the Divisional Round, heading to Jacksonville to take on the Jaguars (11-5).

Leaders:
Passing: Brock Osweiler (HOU): 26-38 366 yds, TD, INT; Tyrod Taylor (BUF): 23-33 323 yds, 3 TD

2017 SEASON - DIVISIONAL PLAYOFF WEEKEND

JAGUARS SURVIVE
Tyrod Taylor Fumbles Inside 10 Yard Line in Closing Moments

Dante Fowler strips Tyrod Taylor, then recovers the fumble to seal the Jaguars victory.

1/14/18
Jacksonville, FL (AP) - The Buffalo Bills have a way of losing playoff games, don't they? On Saturday afternoon, Tyrod Taylor got stripped of the ball in the dying seconds as he tried to scramble for the game winning score in a 23-17 Buffalo Bills loss to the Jacksonville Jaguars in an AFC Divisional Playoff Game. Kemal Ishmael's strip sack early in the fourth, and Brandon Burroughs fumble return for a score proved to be the difference as the Jaguars advanced to their first AFC Championship Game since 2000.

Chris Ivory broke a long touchdown run late in the third quarter
This one was a defensive brawl late into the third quarter before the Jaguars scored twice in 46 seconds to turn a 10-6 deficit into a 20-10 lead. Chris Ivory scored on a 51 yard run, in which he broke four tackles. Then, Kemal Ishmael sacked Tyrod Taylor and rookie Brandon Burroughs picked up the fumble and returned it 35 yards for a touchdown as the Jags exploded for 14 points.

The Jagaurs led this one 6-0 at halftime, thanks to two Jason Myer field goals. The Bills could not seem to get the league's leading rusher LeSean McCoy going, and managed just 71 yards of offense in the opening 30 minutes, including -3 yards rushing.

After the half, the Bills drove 72 yards in 11 plays, and took the lead on a Tyrod Taylor 23 yard touchdown pass to J.J. Nelson. Despite getting thoroughly outplayed, the Bills put together one drive and had a lead. Following a Jaguars three and out, the Bills would drive again. This time they drove 42 yards in eight plays before settling for a 28 yard Dan Carpenter field goal to put them up 10-6.

Jacksonville answered the bell though. Four plays later, Chris Ivory broke four tackles, then rumbled 51 yards for a score as the Jaguars grabbed a lead that they would not relinquish. On the Bills second play after the kickoff, Tyrod Taylor was strip sacked with Burroughs scoring to put the Jags up 20-10. The two touchdowns in 46 seconds turned the momentum and had the crowd back into it.

But the resilient Bills would quiet them as they went 81 yards in three plays. Thanks in part to a pass interference call in the end zone on Robert Woods that allowed LeSean McCoy to score from one yard out.

Jason Myers then connected from 60 yards out with a stiff breeze at his back to extend the Jaguars lead to six with just 6:12 left.

The Bills would have two shots to win it. The teams first exchanged three and outs. Then the Bills drove from their own 36, down to the Jaguars 9 where they faced a third and goal. Taylor rolled left and decided to take off, but Dante Fowler knocked the ball out of his hand, and recovered the fumble with just :04 left in the game to seal it.

A dejected Taylor afterwards, "I let this team and city down. But I am going to do everything that I can to get back here next year and bring a championship to this city."

Sammy Watkins caught five balls for 124 yards in the losing effort. LeSean McCoy ran for 78 yards, 72 after halftime, but it wasn't enough.

The Jaguars will now either host Denver or travel to San Diego for the AFC Championship Game next Sunday.

Leaders:
Passing: Tyrod Taylor (BUF): 17-27 245 yds, TD; Blake Bortles (JAX): 19-27 229 yds, INT
Rushing: Chris Ivory (JAX): 15 car, 80 yds, TD; LeSean McCoy (BUF): 25 car, 78 yds, TD
Receiving: Sammy Watkins (BUF): 5 rec, 124 yds; Julius Thomas (JAX): 7 rec, 82 yds

Sammy Watkins had a big day but could not find the endzone.

Rookie Brandon Burroughs celebrates his fumble return early in the fourth quarter.

Ouch! That's a tough way to lose any game but a playoff game makes it an even tougher pill to swallow
