Re: Regaining Focus - Cleveland Browns Franchise

As we enter 2016, lets take a look at a few of the coaches who enter the year needing to impress.

Mike McCoy, San Diego Chargers - McCoy enters 2016 with a 22-26 record in three years with the Chargers. With the future of the team up in limbo, a move to a new city could always result in some house cleaning. Philip Rivers super bowl window is closing, and the team will need to regain playoff form to keep ownership happy.

Rex Ryan, Buffalo Bills - What hasn't been said about Rex (and now Rob) Ryan. A coach who's already worn out his welcome in the city of good neighbors, a playoff run is absolutely needed here. The ringleader of the Buffalo circus has faced a brutal assault after multiple off season incidents. He'll be missing Shaq Lawson and Marcel Dareus for multiple weeks, and Reggie Ragland is already on IR. Can his defense save him?

Marvin Lewis, Cincinnati Bengals - This one is simple. Lewis needs a playoff win. This team has the talent to make a deep run, wildcard weekend just won't cut it anymore.

Chuck Pagano, Indianapolis Colts - Pagano and GM Ryan Grigson were both saved by Jim Irsays last minute reversal not to fire them. Andrew Luck is healthy, and another disappointing season from the Colts likely means the end for this duo.

Jeff Fisher, Los Angeles Rams - The worst coach with a great reputation, Jeff Fisher can only cozy up to the media for so long. He's a perfect fit in LA, but mediocrity needs to be left in St. Louis for him to stick around.

Week 1
(0-0) @ (0-0)

PHILADELPHIA -- Carson Wentz had 294 yards passing and four touchdowns in a terrific NFL debut as the Philadelphia Eagles beat Robert Griffin and the Cleveland Browns 41-7.

Promoted from No. 3 quarterback to starter just eight days ago, the No. 2 overall pick from North Dakota State looked like a franchise player. Wentz played mistake-free football despite missing the last three preseason games with injured ribs. He finished 19 of 21 with a perfect 158.3 passer rating.

A new quarterback (Griffin) and new coach (Hue Jackson) couldn't help the Browns (0-1) avoid losing their opener for the 12th straight season.

Wentz threw a 35 yard touchdown pass to Jordan Matthews on the teams opening drive, and would connect with Matthews for three scores in the game. The Eagles forced a three and out on the first Cleveland drive, and would block the ensuing punt, running it in for a score.

Cleveland finally got on the board in the second quarter on an Isaiah Crowell one yard plunge. Rookie Corey Coleman picked up five catches for 54 yards in the loss.

Week 2
(0-1) @ (0-1)

CLEVELAND -- The Cleveland Browns have played one half of respectable football so far in 2016. On the first play of the second half, Robert Griffin hit Corey Coleman deep for 75 yards, giving the Browns their first lead of the year at 14-7.

After that, things imploded for Cleveland. For the second straight week, a blocked punt was returned for a score.

Justin Forsett led the way with over 100 yards and two touchdowns. Steve Smith Sr. has shown remarkable recovery from his torn Achilles, catching a long touchdown pass.

Griffin now has five interceptions thru two weeks, and fans have begun to call for Josh McCown to take over for him. Head coach Hugh Jackson said to reporters after the game; "We're staying in Robert's corner. He's fighting thru this right now and we'll support and help him get things right. He's so talented we need to give him a fair shot."
