Too Big To Fail: An Interactive Texas Longhorns Dynasty

So I've been looking around the site for a few weeks, and saw some interesting dynasty threads but none more so than one titled Picking Up the Pieces which saw the player taking over a Georgia that had been heavily sanctioned by the NCAA. It gave me the idea to do this thread, which will follow a Texas Longhorns team that will also be heavily sanction and will fall to Earth. Outside interaction is encouraged, in the form of a fan blog, a sportscenter-esque report, live talk show, whatever. The dynasty will be a living breathing world. So with out further delay, here's my attempt at a Dynasty.

6 months ago, January of 2013, the NCAA announced an investigation into allegations of serious violations against the University of Texas, primarily concerning it's football team from 1995 to 2009. Head Coach Mack Brown has denied any involvement sort of wrongdoings as coach of the Texas Longhorns football team. Now, with the whole of the Longhorn Nation watching, the NCAA prepares a press conference to address it's findings in "The Texas Report."

(Indianapolis, Indiana) ESPN - After half a year of investigating has culminated in this, probably one of the most important NCAA press conferences of the last decade. Today we will find out what and if any violations were committed by the University of Texas, and if so, how it will be punished. As you see, NCAA president Mark Emmert taking his seat we take you to the live audio of the press conference.

First of all, I would like to thank everyone for attending the conference today, as well as the University of Texas for it's continued compliance with the rigid and thorough investigation by the NCAA and applaud them for it. However, with that said, it was found that the University of Texas did commit as many as five major violations that include players receiving improper benefits, rewarding defensive players for 'hard' hits, falsified academic records of players to allow play, illegal contact with recruits, and allowing and even coordinating illegal contact with a professional sports agent. These violations are serious and go against the NCAA's bylaws and will be punished with the following sanctions. A 2 year conference championship ban, and a 3 year bowl game ban. All former players who were found to recieve benefits are to be disassociated from the school, and current players are ruled ineligible from further play in NCAA football. All wins from 1995 to 2009, a total of 150, are to be vacated, along with the 6 division championships, 4 conference championships, and the single national championship which was won in 2005. The school shall only receive 10 full scholarships from 2013 until 2018, at which point they will recieve 15 from 2018 until 2023, meaning a total reduction of 125 scholarships over the next decade. Head Coach Mack Brown, who is deemed unfit to control any football team in the near future hereby banned from coaching in the NCAA until further notice. Immediately following these sanctions will be a 3 year probation period from 2024 to 2026. Lastly, a financial report of the school's total earnings, budget, and expenses shall be sent to the NCAA for regulatory purposes. These sanctions were unanimously agreed to be fair and just given the violations and the amount they were violated...

Mack Brown apologizes for wrongdoing

(Austin, Texas) - Mack Brown gave his final press conference as the Texas Longhorns football coach today, apologizing for the various infractions committed over the near-two decade career of Brown. The now-exiled coach Brown is expected to jump to the NFL, or possibly become an ESPN analyst. In addition to his exit formally ending the Mack Brown era of Texas football, a new era is to be ushered in as Texas opens it's search for a new head coach.

Candidates for the job are slim, as it would appear few coaches want to take over a program on a imminent spiral downward. There are murmurs that Texas may take a risk by hiring a high school coach, though those rumors are unlikely.

Breaking News

News coming from the University of Texas today, with as many as fifteen recruits from this years recruiting class asking for releases from their National Letter of Intents amidst the scandal at UT. If Texas grants these requests, the student athletes would be free to resign with any program of their choosing.

Longhorns Update

Various sources have indicated that the University of Texas has hired Alabama high school coach Harold Rollins as it's next coach. Harold "Harry" Rollins has been quite the coach at the high school level. During his six years at Russelville High School, the Golden Tigers had only a single losing season, and were on a 4 year playoff streak with a loss in the state championship ending last season. With a rookie coach, a fragile team that is on the verge of breaking if it hasn't already, and inexperienced players many are beginning to wonder if Texas is even a true contender this season.

Some of you may wonder, what does Coach Rollins bring to the table? Discipline is one thing. Out of the six senior classes Rollins coached, he had 94 percent of them graduate and go to college. He predicated that academics came before football, sometimes even organizing group study sessions in place of practices if he knew one player was struggling in the class, building unity along the way. A 57-17 record at Russellville High School, beloved by the community, and an excellent role model for young adults was all the UT administration needed to figure Rollins was the best fit for the unstable Longhorns program.

Running a pistol-based run heavy playbook, self entitled "heavy", Rollins is expected to lead a renaissance of Texas rushing with a three-pronged attack. Brown, Gray, and Ash are expected to play intricate parts to the running game this year, while Mike Davis is expected to provide relief from the receiving end.

Texas Schedule Released!

Setup of Coach Rollins' first Press conference.

(Austin, Texas) - At Harry Rollins' first press conference as head coach of the Texas Longhorns, he stated he "felt good" about how the team is prepping itself and "feels comfortable" with the group of players he had. With their first game against BYU just around the corner, Coach Rollins is showing confidence in a team that has been in turmoil since the offseason. Despite these events Rollins stated he had an "intense amount of confidence with this team" and even went further as to say they could "still finish at the top of the standings" at the end of the season.

This goes against many predictions concerning the league, with most expecting them to finish with fourth best league record. The preseason AP poll has Texas at #15 still, despite the offseason controversy. With Malcom Brown at the helm of a focused rushing attack, will the Longhorns be able to surpass expectation? Only time will tell.

Question: Are we allowed to post?
Other question: By fan involvement, specifically a blog/sportscenter-esque report, would other people post that here?

Also, great job so far!

Yes you are allowed to post, and yes to the latter as well. I really want the outside interaction to be a part of the thread. Like if a someone reports that further violations have taken place at UT, then it might prompt the NCAA to investigate more. Or fans posting blogs praising the team or scorn them for bad play, then it would lead to a boost/decrease in morale which would translate on the field, these guys would hear what people are saying about them and would play that way.

And thanks! I really appreciate it!
