Matchup Preview
LSU Begins the 2014 Season With a Trip to Madison

Madison, WI- Finally!

After months of speculation and studying stats and drawing up charts, football fans and critics can finally sit back and watch some college football as the season is about ready to kick off! Our LSU Tigers begin the season with a road trip to the bitter north as they will take on the Badgers of Wisconsin.

"We've been working since the last whistle rang out last season." Head coach Les Miles said. "Now it's time to see what we got."

After the departure of several notable seniors this past off season, the Tigers will field a much noticeably younger team on Saturday. Led by redshirt freshman quarterback Jace Williams, no one is quite sure what kind of team LSU will be.

"We have a lot of talent back there." Offensive coordinator Cam Cameron said. "They can go out and play anybody as long as they stay focused."

The Tigers will be facing a team that is similar to them on offense. They are led by star running back Melvin Gordon who has incredible size and speed and is very hard to bring down. Gordon is not yet on the Heisman watch list, but it is only a matter of time. He had 1100 yards rushing last season as a sophomore and will look to improve upon that this season.

"He's a shifty dude man." Linebacker Kwon Alexander said. "He not can make you miss, but he can run you over. But we got a lot of pride in our guys and we plan on slowing him down today."

Besides Gordon, the Badgers also feature a talented quarterback in junior Joel Stave. Stave is a huge athlete with a big arm and the ability to extend plays with his legs. LSU will need to rattle him early and often to slow him down.

On the other side, Wisconsin had a solid defense that is capable of stuffing the run. We all know that Coach Miles would love to line up and pound the ball behind senior Alfred Blue and true freshman Leonard Fournette, but the game might rest on the arm of Jace Williams, who is making his first career start today. Williams will be challenged today by a secondary led by All-American senior cornerback Peniel Jean.

"I am just ready to get back out there." Williams said. "It has been too long since I've played real football. I am ready to go out there and show what I can do."

If Williams and company can play mistake free football, and the defense can slow down Gordon, the Tigers might be able to escape a hostile Camp Randall Stadium with a victory. Kickoff will be nationally broadcast at 6 pm.

Thanks man! I really appreciate that! I admit sometimes I struggle trying not to be to detailed because that can be a lot of reading but thanks for taking the time to read and follow. I also cannot wait for the Texas A&M matchup. I always enjoy playing (and beating) the Aggies in this game.

Badger Beatdown!
LSU Rolls Into Madison And Runs All Over Wisconsin

LSU QB Jace Williams (7) avoids the Wisconsin D and dives over the goal line for a TD.

Madison, WI- LSU head coach Les Miles may have his ideal team this season!

The #7 LSU Tigers opened the season with a road trip to Madison to take on the #17 Wisconsin Badgers. The Tigers imposed their will on the Badgers with a strong running game and a physical defense and got the 35-10 win.

“We came in and did what we had planned all summer to do.” Coach Miles said. “We want to establish the run game and we want to play physical on the defense. There are a lot of things we need to go back and evaluate but for the most part, I am satisfied with what the guys did out there today.”

LSU HB Alfred Blue (4) runs into the end zone for the first TD of the game.

LSU dominated from the very beginning when they got the ball first. Coach Miles wanted his young offense to go out there and establish the tone of the game and they did with a long 12 play drive that ended in an Alfred Blue touchdown. The defense then went out and stuffed senior running back Melvin Gordon and the Badger offense. The Tiger offense orchestrated another long and steady drive that ended with wide receiver Travin Dural catching a beautiful back shoulder touchdown pass from freshman quarterback Jace Williams. That was Williams’s first touchdown pass of his college career.

LSU WR Travin Dural (83) catches a pass for a long TD.

“They all showed great poise out there to start the game.” Offensive coordinator Cam Cameron said. “Then we hit a few rough patches, but they recovered and finished the game well. I like what I saw from them today.”

LSU jumped out to a 21-3 lead before things started getting messy with about 4 minutes left in the 2nd quarter. The Tiger offense was driving again and had made their way to the Badger 25 yard line. Coach Cameron called a play action pass play that was executed perfectly, but Williams read the defense wrong and threw the ball into the waiting arms of Wisconsin cornerback Peniel Jean. LSU’s defense stopped the Badgers and gave the ball back to the offense with great field position. Coach Cameron, in an effort to build Williams confidence back up, called a pass play on first down. Williams tried to fit the pass to Quantavius Leslie, but Jean jumped the route and intercepted the pass again.

Wisconsin CB Penial Jean (21) steps in front of LSU WR Travin Dural (83) and intercepts the pass.

“He is much faster in person then on tape.” Williams said after the game. “Everybody was faster in person. In high school, I was confident that I could get those balls there before they could make a play on it. At this level, I am not so sure anymore.”

The Tiger defense got another stop and gave the LSU offense a chance to put some more points on the board before halftime. With the ball on the Wisconsin 30 yard line, Williams stepped back to throw and was sacked by Jake Keefer, who had 3 sacks on the day. Williams had his air knocked out and had to leave the game. Backup quarterback Stephen Rivers came in and promptly threw a pick to end the half on a sour note for LSU’s offense.

“We know there will be times that they will struggle.” Tiger linebacker Kwon Alexander said. “So we need to do our part to make sure that we win the game. It goes both ways. That is what a team is.”

The 3rd quarter began and the LSU defense continued their stellar play. Both offenses failed to make any headway and the quarter became a punt fest. Then with about a minute left, the Badgers, after a missed field goal attempt by LSU, finally found some momentum and scored a touchdown to make it a two score game at 21-10.

Wisconsin HB Corey Clement (6) finally scores a TD for the Badgers.

“At some point you knew they were going to find that rhythm.” Coach Miles said. “Our job is to respond and stop them.”

Respond they did. Williams seemed to shake off whatever funk he was in and led a beautiful drive down the field in the fourth quarter, that ended in him running in for the touchdown. After another defensive stop, Williams guided the team down the field again for another long drive that ended in a touchdown pass to tight end Travis Dickson to ice the game.

“I think we showed what we are capable of when we are all on the same page.” Running back Alfred Blue said. “We are going places this year man, so get out of our way!”

Coach Miles wanted to set a physical tone this season and his team is off to a great start. LSU will come back home and have their home opener against Tulane next weekend. After beating Wisconsin in such dominating fashion, anything less than a blowout against the Green Wave will be disappointing.

Re: From Friday to Sunday: The Playing Career of Jace Williams. An NCAA 14/Madden Dyn

Freshman Year: Chapter Two

Jace Williams sat back in his chair and gave his laptop a mock sad face. “So my best friend is going to miss my very first home opener?”

Sarah Thomas rolled her bright green eyes at the camera. “Technically no. It’ll be on TV here.”

“But that’s not the same as being here.” He said pouting.

“Hello? What part of poor pre-med student did ya not get?”

He chuckled. “You could catch a ride with my parents. They’ll be here.”

“True.” She said exasperated. “But I already told you that I have an important test to study for. Being around drunken screaming fans makes that difficult.”

“You don’t go to a football game to study!”

She gave him a look.

He laughed. “Alright, alright. I get it. But you have to make at least one this year.”

“I plan on it!” She said, tying her dark coal hair back into a ponytail. “I am definitely going to the Texas A&M game. College Station is the closest to Austin you will be this season.”

“Ugh.” Jace said staring up at the ceiling of his dorm room. “Good, I’ll need all the allies I can get in that place.”

“You’re going to blow them out of the water.” She said softly. “And that douche nugget will probably throw like 6 interceptions.”

He sighed. “Maybe. I haven’t played so hot. I’ll probably be the one being laughed out of the stadium.”

“What are you talking about?” She said. “You played great in your first game. Y’all won!”

He shook his head. “I threw a couple of stupid picks and I was not very accurate.”

She gave him a questioning look. “Were we watching the same game? Yeah you threw a couple of interceptions but you also threw two touchdowns and ran one in.”

He picked at a corner of his laptop but said nothing.

“Jace.” She said with a sigh. “You’re not going to be perfect all the time. You are going to make mistakes and that’s ok. That is why football is a team sport.”

“But I am the quarterback, I am supposed to lead this team.”

“Great leaders admit their mistakes, learn from them and move on.” She said. “That’s how you gain respect and insight. Go back and look at the tapes. See where you missed up, learn from it and move on. Trust in your team but most importantly, trust in yourself.”

He nodded.

“Besides, did you really think you were going to come in and be Joe Washington?”

“Who?” He said confused.

“Joe Washington.” She said. “That guy from that gold digging California team.”

“Joe Montana?” He said laughing.

“Yeah!” She said laughing too. “I knew it was some state.”

“Well I hoped to be like him.” He said.

“I am sure he had his bad games too.”

“True.”

“You played well Jace.” She said passionately. “You won the game and you made good plays when it matters. That’s all anyone will remember.”

He shook his head and then smiled. “Ok.”

The door to Jace’s room opened and freshman wide receivers Wayne Lucas
and John Diarse, freshman running back Leonard Fournette and freshman quarterback Anthony Jennings bounded in.

“You coming bro?” Wayne said jumping on Jace’s bed.

“To where?”

“The frat party man!” Anthony said, making himself comfortable on Jace’s bed as well. “Being hosted by Alpha, Delta, Beta… Hell I don’t know what their name is but, it supposed to be the best party of the year!”

“Ah. I don’t know.” Jace said. “I am not really a party guy.”

“He’s really not.” Sarah said on the screen.

“Oo who is this fine female you’re talking too?” Wayne said crouching over Jace’s shoulder. “You been withholding from us bro?”

“I am his best friend.” She said.

“Friend eh?” Wayne said pushing Jace out of the way. “Well why don’t you make your way over here sweetie and I can show you how great of a friend I can be?”

She raised her eyebrows. “Sweetie?”

Jace stood up and took the laptop. “I’ll talk to you later Sarah.” He closed the computer and sat it on his desk.

Wayne punched Jace in the shoulder. “Way to c**k block man”

He shook his head. “Trust me. You would not have liked what was about to happen.”

“Ah, she’s feisty eh?” Wayne rubbed his hands together. “I like my women with a little spirit in them.”

Leonard shook his head. “You’re too much.”

“She doesn’t go that way either if you know what I mean.” Jace said.

“Oh she a lesbo?” He laughed. “One night with me and that will be fixed.”

Jace stepped forward, his fists clenched. Anthony jumped off the bed and stepped in between them. “Let’s get going hm?”

Wayne walked over to the door pulling out his phone. “I am getting me some tonight!” He said fixing his hair in the phone’s camera. He turned around to stare at the guys when no one responded. “What are we waiting for Freshies? Let’s have some fun!”

John shook his head and followed Wayne out the door. “Come on guys, we should probably keep an eye on him.”

An hour later, Jace was leaning against the wall in the huge frat house holding a water bottle. The house was packed with people laughing, drinking and dancing to the music that caused the walls and the floors to vibrate. He and the other freshman football players had arrived together but quickly got separated. He saw them occasionally throughout the night in various states of joy. He took a swig from the bottle and was considering leaving when the front door opened and Bella Gutierrez walked in.

“Oh crap.” He said to himself and started walking away hoping that she didn’t see him. He tried to make his way to the kitchen, but his progress was impeded by an impromptu chugging session.

“Chug! Chug! Chug!” The crowd chanted as Jace tried to find a way around them.

“Jace!?” A female voice said.

He took a deep breath and turned around to see Bella looking at him. Her shiny dark hair was pinned on the top of her head with a LSU themed barrette. She was wearing a purple tank top and a black skirt that was tight enough to accentuate her ample curves and showed off her very toned long brown legs that were currently striding towards him.

“Hey Bella!” He said awkwardly. “I didn’t know you were coming.”

She reached him and folded her arms. “Why? So you could avoid this party like you’ve been avoiding me?”

“What? What are you talking about?” He said vaguely, still looking for a way out.

Ay dios mio!. Don’t lie to me Jace!” She said, her brown eyes glittering with anger.

“Ok, ok fine. I have been avoiding you.”

“So you sleep with me and then dump me to the side?” She shook her head. “I thought you were better than that, but you are just like all the others.”

She turned to walk away.

“Wait Bella!” He said grabbing her arm. “It’s not like that!”

“Then what is it?”

He looked around. “Can we go outside? It’s quieter there.”

She looked at him for a few seconds and then nodded and turned towards the door. He followed her, trying his best to make his way around groups of flailing people. In the corner by the door he spotted Wayne making out with a random girl. It was dark, so he couldn’t quite see who he was with, but they seemed to be really into it as the girl was making muffled noises.

They walked outside and went down the side walk a few paces. Finally she turned around and glared at him. “Well?”

He stared at the concrete. “I really like you Bella, but…”

“But what?”

When he said nothing, she mumbled “Que el cielo me ayude!” under her breath and started walking away again.

“Ok look.” He said catching up to her. “Your dad knew about us ok? I was staying away because I didn’t want to get in more trouble.”

She shook her head. “You’re afraid of my father?”

“Well… yeah. He made my summer hell after he found out.”

“So it doesn’t matter what I think or how you feel? The only thing that matters is what my father thinks?”

“Football is a big part of my life.” Jace said. “Your father controls if I get to play or not.”

Bella was silent for a minute. “I hate him sometimes.” She said softly.

“He can be… intense.”

She smacked him in the chest. “And you need to grow a pair!”

He stepped back in shock. “What?”

“If you want to be with me, be with me. Who cares what my father thinks? If you don’t want to be with me then let me know instead of jerking me around!”

“I—I.” He stammered.

She leaned in close. Her brown eyes seemingly staring into his soul and she smelled like cinnamon and honey. It was intoxicating. “When we were together, I know you felt what I felt. Am I lying?”

He shook his head.

“Then don’t be afraid.” She moved even closer to him.

He tucked a strand of hair behind her ear. “This is crazy.”

She smiled. “This makes me happy and that is what my father wants more than anything.”

Their lips finally met and he felt a surge of electricity course through his body. The moment was interrupted by a drunken frat guy stumbling into them.

“Sorry.” He slurred and passed out in the grass behind them.

Jace shook his head and then grabbed Bella’s hand. “Want to get something to eat?”

She nodded and the couple walked away into the night.
