Arizona State Introductory Press Conference + ASU Preseason Stories

What enticed you to take the reigns as the Head Coach of Arizona State?
"The sunshine. I'm a Florida boy so it feels good to get out that cold Indy weather. Snow's fun to play in but it sure as heck aint fun to live in."

Is there any pressure coaching against some of the powerhouses in the PAC-12?
"We're gonna be the powerhouse. It probably won't happen overnight, and I don't mean to be too cliche but we're gonna get there or die trying."

So.. no pressure coach?
"None."

Do you think it'll be difficult to convince future recruits to commit this team after leaving Ball State after one season?
"Who wouldn't wanna play at ASU? It has everything you need; great field, state of the art facility, sunny weather, tradition, history, beautiful women, BCS exposure, and one damn good coaching staff if you ask me."

How difficult is it to get players to buy into a new program?
"When you put in the work off the field, and succeed on the field, those are what we call positive results. Players respond to that. You can be the best coach in the world but if you don't win, it don't matter what you're doing right. It all comes together once you go out and start winning ball games."

A regime change can be a tough transition.
"The toughest part can be the new playbook, packages, schemes, y'know, terminology and philosophy.

Is it tough for students to learn a new system and maintain the required GPA of a student athlete?
"Most these kids are smart enough, I don't think it'll be too difficult for them to learn the system. This team is losing 14 starters; 8 on offense, 6 on Defense. QB - his backup. Running Back - his backup. The top 2 Wideouts, a Full Back, and 3 of the starting O-Linemen. It'll be damn near a whole new unit out there. It'll be harder for us coaches to figure out how to use the players we have at our disposal."

Can you elaborate on how it's harder for the coaches?
"We didn't recruit most of the guys on team, we don't know what kind of schemes they came from, what kind of players or people they are, what they don't like or don't like, and a lot of em don't have a lot of college tape. We gotta get to know these kids on and off the field and figure out how we can work together to help each other succeed."

Will you attempt to lead your team or will you turn to some of the seniors for help?
"Coaches coach, players play. There's a time and a place for everything."

Who will be the starting QB week 1?
"Tony (Dobizinski) is our guy."

Do you expect him to step up and be a leader?
"He's a Freshman. I expect him to go in there and do his job. I don't need him trying to eat any W's before the game."

WK 1: ASU vs Kent State Post-Game Review

Kent State Golden Flashes at Arizona State Sun Devils
Aug 24, 20191ST2ND3RD4THSCORE
Kent State Golden Flashes (0-1)7001017
Arizona State Sun Devils (1-0)71071438

Coach Karter and his Freshman QB lead the Arizona State to victory in their Sun Devils debut. Tony Dobzinksi showed off his mobility in the first quarter rushing for a TD to take the lead. Kent State would strike back quickly but would be shutout until the 4th quarter. Dobinzski aired it out all day completing 27/37 passes for 352 yds and 3 TD's. He completed 72% of his passes but wasn't perfect - he threw 2 Interceptions and was sacked 3 times. He showed flashes of what it takes to be a QB and it gives Sun Devil fans optimism.

Quote:
Coach C. Karter:
"That was the worst first half of football I've ever coached. Hands down.
We couldn't stop anything they did. Hell, they hit a hail mary TD at the end of the first half. Down 35-0. 3 interceptions didn't help, but we couldn't stop em. We couldn't move the ball, and we couldn't stop them at all. That hail mary with no clock left pretty much summed up the beginning of that game."

"We outscored them in the second half but that's because we had the ball a lot longer and stopped turning the ball over. Y'know they still made big plays, broke off big runs, and manhandled us at the line of scrimmage. You can't give up 6 sacks and throw 3 picks and expect to beat a team like USC. You just can't, you can't do it."

Did you ever consider pulling your QB?

"No. He's a freshman. Tony (Dobzinski) played a lot better in the 2nd half of this game and you learn a lot about a guy in games like this. He got rattled early. He got his bell clocked pretty good and made some poor decisions and bad throws. He settled down, kept his cool, and finished the game strong. It's a learning curve. He's young. We wouldn't of learned a damn thing pulling him from the game - I'm just being honest."

"Dropping to 0-2 in conference play isn't what they hired me for. I know UCLA and USC are tough teams but we expect to win these games. We can't allow ourselves to get put away like that before the game even begins. That starts with the coaching staff."

"Next week we travel to Michigan State. We're on national TV. They're a top 10 team in the county. We got a week to clean it up and go kick some Big Ten a$$."

----------------------------------
OOC
It took me 30 minutes to do boxscore without including other team's stats. How long does it usually take you guys and does anybody have any time-saver suggestions? I'd love a way to conserve time a little bit and knock these things out. TBH it's a tad bit demotivating that it takes me so long to format lol. I used to have a really easy template/method in wordpad way back then and it never took me this long. It didn't include the team stats comparison though and wasn't as detailed.

ARIZONA STATE def. #8 MICHIGAN STATE
@ Spartan Stadium in East Lansing.

ASU WR David Parsons dives into the end zone for a game winning TD with 0:01 second left on the clock silencing the home crowd.
09/28/19 East Lansing, MI ---The Spartans stadium was rocking. With 24 seconds left in the game MSU's QB Andrew Bolden dove into the end zone on a 2 YD run to take the lead for the home team putting Michigan State ahead 31-27.

The majority of people watching this game had to be thinking game, set, match. It would be hard to believe that the players themselves thought the same thing.

In the blink of an eye and only in a miracle finish that you would have to see to believe, Arizona State's Freshman QB Tony Dobzinski hits WR David Parsons on a seam route taking it 75 yds down the sideline diving into the end zone for the game winning TD. There was 0:01 left on the clock as he dove into the end zone to put the Sun Devils up 33-31. An extra point and a squib kick later and the miracle was complete leaving the Spartan and their fans devastated on their home turf. Arizona State and their loyal fans and families who made the trip to Michigan celebrated like their team just won the Super Bowl. It was a huge upset for #8 Michigan State and the miraculous finish will become one of the highlights of the 2019 college football season and goes down as an instant classic that will be replaying for years to come.
