Thanks! Spoiler alert: the Cowboys win a second consecutive Super Bowl

Biggest thing I need to focus on is finding a real QB next year... Bailey is great for his speed, but I'm never going to have a solid passing game if I can't get a legit guy there.

Free Agency Highlights

Golden Eagles Aim For Two, Land One in Free Agency
The Golden Eagles made a splash in 2020's Free Agency by signing Kareem Hunt, who became the lifeblood of an offense that struggled under the lackluster leadership of fourth-round pick Hunter Bailey. Hunt went on to set the new NFL record for single-season rushing yards, and proved to be worth the high price tag the team spent on him.

This year, the Golden Eagles only bid on two free agents, and the first one was a high-profile offer to QB Deshaun Watson. The former Texan maintained the speed that made Hunter Bailey deadly in the rushing game, but brought with him the arm to be a truly multi-threat Quarterback. However, the Golden Eagles were outbid by the Los Angeles Chargers, who will retain Watson on a six-year contract worth a total of $165 million. Watson will replace the veteran Philip Rivers, who was released into the free agent market and signed on with the Steelers to become their new lead man under center.

But while Bruce Arians didn't get his big-ticket quarterback, he did sign a heavyweight defender in 26-year-old Strong Safety Keanu Neal. Neal will take over the starting job previously held by M.J. Stewart Jr, and represents a major upgrade for the Golden Eagle defense. Neal was signed to a $69.8 million-dollar contract that is good for five years.

Quarterback Changes

The Los Angeles Chargers acquired Deshaun Watson, who will replace the departing Philip Rivers.

The New England Patriots will need to move on now that the Tom Brady era has ended, but it may take some time for the team to find its new franchise QB. In the meantime, the Patriots signed veteran Kirk Cousins to a 1-year, $22 million-dollar contract to run the offense in 2021.

The Pittsburgh Steelers don't seem to believe that Mason Rudolph is prepared to take over the team, as they signed on the long-time Charger Philip Rivers. Rivers was taken at the tail end of free agency on a bargain-basement one-year deal worth just $980K, but will be the starter for the black and gold come August.

Other Significant Signings
  • CB Richard Sherman - 49ers
  • LOLB Samson Ebukam - Jaguars
  • HB Leonard Fournette - Jaguars
  • WR Cooper Kupp - Cardinals

Re: ¡Volemos! - Mexico City Golden Eagles Relocation CFM (Owner)

Just got through the franchise so far and enjoying it alot. The only thing I did with Madden 19 was a big relocation franchise where I simmed 30 years into the future, slowly moving around teams until all the relocation cities were taken. I always love the "alternate universe" type of stuff. Will keep reading, good luck in the offseason!

Aggressive Draft Brings Top QB to Mexico City
Bruce Arians may have found his Quarterback of the future.

Carlos Guerrero Espinosa
TV Azteca Deportes
In the 2020 draft, the Golden Eagles lost out on their coveted Quarterback when Kris Conway was taken by the Dolphins. As a result, Bruce Arians dealt away his first-round draft pick and made a number of moves to multiply his draft selections in the middle rounds, hoping to build up the team in other areas in preparation for a future franchise QB. The plan was largely successful, with names like Floyd Crocker, Stewart Jackson, and Lamar Arnold becoming staples of the team's successful playoff-making team.

This time around, Bruce Arians came into the draft with a quality-over-quantity mantra, and was willing to sacrifice multiple picks in order to get the man he wanted.

Zach Vaughan at the Golden Eagles practice facility.
At the cost of his first-round pick, one of this third-round picks, and Wide Receiver Breshad Perriman, Coach Arians acquired the ninth overall pick from the Denver Broncos and used it to select this year's top Quarterback prospect -- California graduate Zach Vaughan.

The former Golden Bear was a two-year starter at Cal, and has the potential to restore a measure of balance to Mexico City's offense if he can adjust properly to the speed of NFL defenses. Vaughan lacks the speed and agility that made Hunter Bailey an option-run threat last season, but he has the arm strength and the accuracy to produce through the air in situations where Bailey was unable to come through. After performing well in early preseason practices, Vaughan is almost certainly the presumptive starter for the squad, which lacks any veteran presence to compete with the first-round draft pick.

After Vaughan, Arians selected only four more players. The second round brought Ferris State Wide Receiver Ja'Darius McAllister, the third saw the addition of Purdue LT Bradley Russell, and the fourth brought Washington State DT Rashaud Burgess. The final selection was USC QB Anthony Barber in round 5, after which Arians traded away the remainder of his selections in order to receive picks in next year's draft.

Clearly, Bruce Arians believes that he has a fairly complete team that is prepared to make be a serious contender for several upcoming seasons. If Zach Vaughan works out as a true franchise QB and the supporting pieces drafted around him can help fill in the gaps in the Golden Eagles' roster, 2022 could very well see another strong playoff run for the team. Kareem Hunt will continue to dominate, and the newly-minted rushing record-holder will be made more dangerous by having a passing game to take the heat off of his repeated runs. Meanwhile, Mike Evans -- who had a quiet season in 2020 after a league-leading year in 2019 -- should be able to return to prominence with a renewed focus on the passing game. And with Keanu Neal adding to an already-effective defensive backfield, an NFC South championship shouldn't be out of the question for 2021.
