NASHVILLE, Tennessee -- Vanderbilt came crashing back down to the reality this past Saturday afternoon with a 20-13 loss to Mississippi State in their own backyard. The Commodore's inability to stop two Bulldogs players who both wore #4 on either side of the ball proved vital in the loss. Senior wide receiver Malik Heath torched the Commodores secondary for 132-yards and a touchdown on five receptions, whilst sophomore defensive end Izuchukwu King Ani had a field day and absolutely abused Vanderbilt's sophomore right tackle Ben Ashmore on his way to four sacks, and five tackles for loss.

Mississippi State did all that and more without starting quarterback Jack Abraham who was hit hard by Alex Williams towards the end of the first half. Will Rogers his replacement led the Bulldogs to a ten-point second-half comeback. Rogers finished the game 13-from-21 for 233-yards and a touchdown. On the ground Ja'Quavious Marks took a little while to get going but when he did he kept the Vanderbilt defense honest and finished the game with 85-yards and a touchdown off 20 carries.

"Disappointing is an understatement," Vanderbilt head coach Clark Lea said after the game. "We blew away a lead so easily, we forgot the fundamentals of football and that's to protect our quarterback and we gave up to many big plays to their offense."

Ken Seals had to pick himself up off the turf no less than five times in the game, but the sophomore showed real guts to stay inside the pocket and throw for 219-yards and a touchdown. For Vanderbilt, if they can't protect Seals it is going to be another long season. Re'Mahn Davis improved on his lowly 2.9-yards per carrying in last week's win over Colorado State and finished the game with 92-yards on 21 carries (4.3 YPC). Cam Johnson who torched the Rams last week for 163-yards found himself double covered by this Mississippi State defense and was held to just 3 receptions. It was Ja'Veon Marlow whose early 67-yard touchdown reception proved the only offensive score for the Commodores today.

On defense, Vanderbilt showed they can rush the passer with both Alex Williams and Daevion Davis recording sacks. Williams had multiple sacks. However, there is still a long way to go for this defense with Mississippi State racking up 409 yards of total offense. The Commodores are also yet to force a single turnover of the football through the first two games.

Next week, Vanderbilt (1-1, 0-1) takes its first bye week of the season.

As weird as this sounds. I like losses, this early on I want it to be as realistic as I possibly can. I will be happy if we just win two, maybe three games this season.

Looking at the Heisman board, Jerrion Ealy just completely torched my Texas defense for 200+ yards on the ground. I now have a love-hate relationship with him and wouldn’t hate seeing him win the Heisman lol.

Well, sadly this isn't this year's schedule. Although it exists. It is one thing I couldn't get into the game properly. So you will be happy to know his yards came against Tulane and lets just say Austin Peay.
