I'm thinking Holcombe and co. steamroll this Arkansas team. They look SLOW

I won't be taking there lack of speed for granted because that's exactly what we did last season and look where that got us!

***************

Austin, Texas -- #3 Texas had their feet firmly placed on the Razorbacks' necks from the get-go in this game and the Longhorns didn't let up on their former Southwest Conference Rivals getting revenge for last seasons humiliating loss in a 42-10 beatdown this past Saturday afternoon.

Led by senior running back Le'Veon Moss the Longhorns put up close to 500 yards of total offense on Arkansas. The Texas offense combined for 292 yards and four touchdowns rushing the ball today with Moss seeing the most yardage of 173. Moss also rushed for two touchdowns on 29 carries. Naeem Philips and Tristen Holecome both had rushing touchdowns with Philips also adding 77 yards himself.

"When I tied my cleats today. I knew it was going to be a good day." Moss told reporters after the game. "Coach could tell I was getting hot out there and credit to him he keep feeding me the ball. I know I haven't been up to scratch so far this season but that's all about to change, and today was just the start."

Texas' freshman quarterback Tristen Holcombe has already found himself on the Heisman watch list after his first two games and today's three total touchdown performance will not do anything to dampen those who claim he is a favorite to win the award already despite throwing his first collegiate interception. Holcombe finished the game 16-of-23 passing for 196 yards, he tossed touchdown passes to both Xander Weems and Jaleel Solomon.

On defense, Texas will be just disappointed they allowed Arkansas to score a touchdown which up until Razorback fullback Steven Sykes carried the ball into the endzone in the fourth quarter didn't look likely. Nick Johnson forced a fumble for the Longhorns which proved to be their only turnover in the game for the defense. A star performance from true freshman Damone Johnson who showed both his speed and power on two separate sacks of Arkansas quarterback Blake Schmal. Johnson is slowly showing the Longhorn nation just why he was highly recruited out of Balch Springs High School last season and now has 4 sacks in three games.

"We owed them this one." Texas Head Coach Russell Warner said after the game. "The way we lost last season was unacceptable, and how they celebrated in our faces showed a little lack of class. Well, have some of that! It was almost as complete of a performance as I have had in my time so far coaching here."

Next week, #3 Texas (3-0, 3-0) take to the road to face off against #14 LSU (3-0, 3-0). Led by junior quarterback Israel Carter the Tigers have wins over South Carolina (63-10), Vanderbilt (21-17), and today a 20-17 win over #21 ranked Oklahoma.

Naeem Philips takes the pitch from Holcombe for a touchdown.

Ernest Cooper forces the ball out of Schmal's hands with his helmet.

Damone Johnson bull rushes his way to Schmal.

Le'Veon Moss bundles his way into the endzone.

How did Jaivon Ramsey come down with the ball on this one?

Beat down from start to finish. The 3rd and 4th down conversions seemed like back breakers for Arkansas.

I had a policy out there and that was to not let up. That loss to them last season really stuck in my mind and that is why I took the option to go for it on those fourth downs, all of them came inside their 50. As you say, it seemed to suck the life out of them even more, kind of made me smile I must say.

I love having narratives for different games. In my Red River Shootout, obviously the mantra was “No Mercy” and we put it on them. I’m sure as I go through the seasons I’ll develop different rivalries along the way that mean more in game than in real life. Finding these nuances is what makes our own universes that much more enjoyable.

In my Thunder 2k22 franchise I have a narrative that Josh Giddey has a personal vendetta against Jalen Green because Giddey believed he was the clear cut #2 pick in that draft. Whenever they face off, I make sure to feature Giddey on offense to try and go at Green as much as possible lol.
