You better trade Byrd in year one because in year two he drops to a 61 overall and is god awful. At least in my franchise haha. I'm about to DFA him in year 2.

Re: MLB 14 The Show Official Trade Discussion Thread
This is an online Franchise question, playing as the Yanks (surprise surprise). We are into May and are 25-14, our pitching staff has been solid and Nova is now a surplus. Here is my rotation:
1.Tanaka 1-3 5.11 (only pitcher I've sucked with, maybe pressing too hard)
2.CC 4-1 3.99
3.Kuroda 2-0 3.12
4.Jaime Garcia 4-3 2.70 (guy that has the Cardinals released him along Motte before 1st pitch, scooped them both up. Guy has been a beast, had a 1.53 ERA not long ago)
5.Jeff Francis 3-0 1.76 (Yes that Jeff Francis, O Canada)
Nova is 2-1 3.38. League has about 20 owners and the Phillies are one of those teams without one. Would this trade make sense, they are 17-11(I've played more games than them thus far) 4.5 behind the Mets for 1st. Here is there pitching staff:
1.Lee 3-1 1.79 (surprise surprise)
2.Hamels 4-2 3.99
3.Burnett 3-1 4.75 (here is where the ERA's jump and it starts getting ugly for them)
4.Biddle 1-4 6.23
5.Kendrick 3-1 5.01 (not bad W/L but that ERA, ouch)
Chart says low B for Nova, so here's my offer
PHI gets Nova (2-1 3.38)
NYY gets SP Severino Gonzalez (of course for online leagues there are no minors so no stats)
What do y'all think? Another pitcher could help the Phillies stay in this fight, and Nova to Philly makes the most sense to me. Thought about the Padres but they're 25-9 and have no need for Nova. Josh Johnson has a .57 ERA!!!Comment

Re: MLB 14 The Show Official Trade Discussion Thread
Alright here are some trades in my Astros franchise (simming year 1)
Trade 1 *CPU offered trade*
SD sends OF Carlos Quentin (79) | Last year of deal
SEA sends SP Luiz Gohara (60 - mid B pot - 18 y/o)
Believe it or not the Mariners are in 1st in the ALW in July at 52-33. They are 2.5 up on OAK and 3.5 up on TEX. They give up a highly thought of young pitching prospect for big bat. Quentin isn't hitting great but has the potential to heat up and SEA needs hitting help. (.213 avg - 13 HR - 46 RBI - .323 RISP)
Trade 2 *Manual trade*
NYY sends 1B Greg Bird (61 - mid C pot - 21 y/o)
MIA sends 3B Greg Dobbs (69) | Last year but tearing it up
Dobbs is killing it for Miami and the Yankees need a bat at 3rd. Dobbs is a high-D on the sheet but I thought a mid-C would fit his production (300-17-50). He's a rental for half a season as he's in mid 30's. Miami gets another decent prospect in their system.

Re: MLB 14 The Show Official Trade Discussion Thread
Ok got a few trades to run by you guys. I'm the Pirates in early June, looking at picking up D'Arnaud from the Mets and possibly Pastornicky from the Braves. On the spreadsheet it lists D'Arnaud as a low A and mid B. And Pastornicky as a high C. So what do you guys think of these?
Pirates get Travis D'Arnoud (Catcher) "B" pot 73 ovr 25 yo
Mets get Alen Hanson (SS) "A" pot 68 ovr 21 yo and Harold Ramirez (RF) "B" pot 51 ovr 19 yo
And/or
Pirates get Tyler Pastornicky (SS) "C" pot 68 ovr 24 yo
Braves get Jose Tabata (RF) "C" pot 71 ovr 25 yo and Barrett Barnes (CF) "C" pot 55 ovr 22 yo.
What do you guys think? Am I giving up too much/not enough?
Thanks for your help.Comment

Working out a trade for Starlin Castro that includes Gary Sanchez and Pineda, if I do aquire Starlin, would he suffer from spending one year at 3rd until Jeter retires? Could potentially move him to second for the season if Roberts starts struggling alsoNew York Yankees

MLB 14 The Show Official Trade Discussion Thread
Considering starting a DBacks franchise and making some moves, assuming I'll be out of contention. The main veterans I'd look to move for other players/prospects are Aaron Hill, Trumbo, Brandon McCarthy, maybe Prado (would probably prefer to keep him, can always use a good utility guy).
I know Trumbo has been discussed throughout, so I can search on him. However, I think Aaron Hill to the Braves makes a ton of sense.
In any trade to the Braves Id like to get Bethancourt back. I know the Braves consider him the catcher of the future, but so was Saltalamacchia at one point. Would a Hill for Bethancourt and Uggla trade be realistic? Just assume all play to their career averages for now and the Braves are in contention. I only added Uggla because I think dumping him sweetens the pot for ATL
Or if Bethancourt is unrealistic, Jorge Alfaro from the Rangers would work, but I prefer an MLB ready catcher who can be elite defensively and has a big arm.

I see what your doing and and agree with the players you want to move, however want to say 2 things about them. First off I thought I was going to trade Trumbo as well but when I got to the break and started breaking it all down it doesn't make much sense. You already have a good team and will be getting 3 great starters next season with Bradley coming up and getting Corbin and Hudson back, and with Trumbo being club control for another 2 years I decided to keep him. Especially since he was hitting .300 with 25HR and 60+RBI and won the HR Derby.
Secondly like I mentioned before you have a good team already so don't blow it up too much, don't be surprised if your record is way better than you expect, as I lead the west most of the
first half and was only 6 back at the break. Although I didn't become a buyer because I didn't want to missing my 2 best pitchers being out the year, just saying it won't take as much as you think to turn it around.
Now for the Braves trade despite being in contention, needing a good 2b, and dumping Uggla I don't see the Braves parting with Bethancourt for him alone, especially since they could part with some of their surplus pitching elsewhere for help. Just what I think but they're guys in here much better with trades just my opinion.

I toyed with a D-Backs chise until I accidentally overwrite the save and lost it but I digress.

All very valid points, specially the one about Bethancourt. My thing is the only way I can really get into a franchise is if I sort of start by blowing things up and rebuilding around my play style (over a season or two). Arizona seemed like a good fit because I have Goldy to build around, some young guys like Bradley, Owings, Shipley, etc. and the veterans I mentioned above to move.
Safe to say the Padres are probably my best bet if I want to blow a team up and build it from nothing, correct? Only other teams I can think of that are near blow up mode are the Phillies and White Sox, but I can't stand either team lol. Twins won't work because that is just a matter of waiting until Buxton and Sano come up.

Also you could do that with the Padres, Brewers maybe, depending on which way you want to trade it Angels possibly, don't write off the Twins they need a lot more help than Sano and Buxton, you could also blow up Cleveland if you wanted. Just saying lol.

Re: MLB 14 The Show Official Trade Discussion Thread
By all means if you want to blow them up and rebuild its your game man, that was my plan as well really. But after it got started I realized they really weren't the team I thought they were and that wasn't the most realistic route and lost some interest. I was just giving you my experience with them especially if you haven't started yet and if that kind of thing would bother you as well maybe you would benefit from another team, however if it doesn't then go for it!

Yeah I was running with Cleveland for awhile, but lost interest for some reason. I'm thinking the Padres are my best bet since my main goal is realism, and they really don't have anyone outside of Cashner to build around (I like Gyorko and Maybin, but both are more complimentary guys than building pieces).
