Very true k_mac. If I were to try and put together and alternate deal...

CJ Cron, Kaleb Cowart, Taylor Lindsay, RJ Alvarez and Hunter Green for Hamels and Papelbon? It would deplete the A's system but help them contend right away

Re: MLB 14 The Show Official Trade Discussion Thread

I appreciate the comments and quick responses. Here's another one (sorry, I'm nearing the trade deadline).

Pirates are offering some pretty serious prospects to the Twins for Joe Mauer.

Pittsburgh is willing to send RHP Jameson Taillon (Top 50 Prospect), 1B Gabby Sanchez, as well as another top-50 prospet in RHP Tyler Glasnow to Minnesota for Joe Mauer.

      Any way this would happen?

I would say Pittsburgh is insane for this one. As good as Mauer is, Sanchez hasn't been a slouch for them. He's hitting .270 and has 10 home runs and 40 RBIs.

The Twins are tied for first place in the American League Central and the Pirates are right there in the mix as well, only 2.5 games out of first in the National League Central.

I'm ready to hit my "veto" button but wanted to see what you all had to say.

As the Twins are tied for first, I don't see why they'd trade their key player/star player/franchise cornerstone. If they were out of it, sure.

If you're on 30 team control, maybe there's another 1B from a bottom dwelling team to make?

Maybe, but I don't see the Pirates giving away two top-50 prospects to replace Sanchez at first who is having a pretty good year.

I think you just answered your own question

I was thinking that if a team like the Brewers (Reynolds) or Rockies (Morneau) are out of contention, the Pirates could swing a minor deal for a piece like that

Re: MLB 14 The Show Official Trade Discussion Thread

Before you consider the following, please keep in mind that my franchise (nor anyone's) necessarily reflects what's happened in the real Major League this season. As us Cubs fans, and most avid baseball fans know, Jose Veras was a disaster for the Cubs and was released. However, on my game, he's been okay. Good enough to make 15 saves on a 41-45 team. He has a 4-3 record with a 3.44 ERA. He has had his troubles in 2014 for me as he's blown three saves but he's also shown signs of being very effective. He has 31 strikeouts in 34 innings pitched.

My question is, if I'm in search of a catcher, who might I be able to get for him? And if I packaged a player like Emilio Bonifacio or Darwin Barney, could I net a B-level prospect?

Prior to the Samardzija deal, which I am about to make in my franchise here in a bit, I was going to deal him to Boston for one of their catching prospects (Swihart), along with some others. Since that deal is a no-go now, how would I go about getting a catching prospect? I figured Veras might be a place to start.

Others I'd be willing to deal include Ryan Sweeney, Mike Olt, and possibly Junior Lake.

Bethancourt from the Braves, Grandal from the Padres or Montero from the Mariners could all be had for a combination of the pieces you listed.

the Red Sox don't want Veras or Olt. you'll have a better shot getting Vazquez straight up for Junior, as we need OF help bad.

                    No why is that important?

because i have traded for and received players from other teams that have not been on their block... so why should it be any different.

if you want a player from a team you go out and get them if they will take the bait...

should be the same way with CPU offered trades...

He asked because you will be much more likely to receive trade offers from the CPU for players listed on the trade block. I have received plenty of offers from the computer so I haven't had the same problem you're having. But listing players on the trade block should get you some offers.

Would like to keep Paxton in there- he's being used out of the bullpen it disgusts me lol, Hultzen is a fav of mine, and Guerrero gives me a young outfield prospect as well.

Mariners are 59-45, first in the west by a game over the surging Angels, thought Shark could give the Rotation an extra boost to keep their lead, My cubbies are 20 games out. All this is within 5 days of the deadline. Help is appreciated - thanks
As a Mariner fan and Cubs fan, I wouldn't want the Mariners to do that deal. However for your Franchise, I would say Paxton or Hultzen with Guerrero and Goharra is a good place to start. Not sure they would trade Leone he is pitching really well in the bullpen right not (IRL) maybe a someone like L. Bawcom.

Veras, Olt, and Sweeney by themselves have next to no value.

When quoting reliever stats, I'd say K/9, BB/9, and DIPS are more important than ERA and much, much more important than W-L. Maybe Veras with an insane K/9 gets you something by himself, but a 3.44 ERA along with his past history doesn't do it for me if I'm an acquiring club. At least not for any top prospects.

If you package in Barney/Bonifacio, then you can possibly get a B catching spect from a team in need of a defensive-minded IF or a UTIL/leadoff man and a RP.

I think you are helping yourself to one too many solid pitching specs. I'd remove Gohara/Hultzen, downgrade the one you remove to an older, less touted arm, and call it good. Remember the A's-Cubs deal, aside from Shark pitching like an All-Star, needed a 2nd SP on a career year in there with Hammel for the Cubs to get a real top tier package.

In my Yankees franchise, I've just traded for 2B Jose Altuve for 2 minor league pitchers. He's batting .298/5/44RBI at the ASBreak, year 2015.

What two minor league pitchers? As an Astros fan, the fans and the team are both really high on Altuve, especially after signing him to a VERY team-friendly extension a year ago. Unless these two prospects are top prospects, I don't see how he can be had for just two prospects (unless you're not following the realistic direction).

Its the middle of June with my Yankees and I need a new starting pitcher. I put Kelly Johnson on the trading blocck and he drew interest from the Braves. The Braves have Ervin Santana on the block also so I was wondering if this is a fair trade
