Question regarding Cliff Lee's value in this scenario:

Its the ASG in my franchise (Year 2014), and the Dodgers sit at around .500 in the West, a game behind the Padres for the division lead. (Arizona is only 2 games behind LA as well).

Im thinking about getting Cliff Lee for LA - but the trade value sheet seems to think hes worth a heck of an amount.

Right now, the Phillies are actually in 3rd in the East but dont have a good record and I'm envisioning a scenario where they go into a bit of a fire sale mode (as opposed to real life).

Lee has been great this season and is on a hot streak. His ERA is a bit high at 3.95, but he's pitched 116.1 innings, has 103 ks to 21 walks, and has also only given up 113 hits. (He's just been giving up a lot of homers).

I'm thinking Joc Pedesen + Zach Lee and Windle is enough, but just thought Id hear you guy guys out.

Also, is there any way you could see Philadelphia taking Kemp?

That's ok. Isn't that the guy traded to the D'Backs earlier this year?

I don't see the Phillies doing a fire sale from 3rd place. I also don't see a scenario where they do a fire sale, but still want to take on Matt Kemp's salary (unless they are dealing Ryan Howard).

Pederson + Lee + Windle is a decent starting point, but you'd likely have to give up more. Probably need Urias in there instead of Z. Lee to make it actually work given C. Lee is playing well.

Yes. In real life, he was traded for Joe Thatcher

I hear you on Urias. I wasnt certain about including him (think the Dodgers would be hesitant) but with Lee pitching so well its probably necessary.

One further question: Which teams would be likely active sellers out of the last place teams I have?

            - Blue Jays (5 games under .500 and last in the AL East).
            - White Sox (8 games under. 500 and 4th place)
            - Twins (10 games under, last place
            - Phillies (already explained).
            - Marlins (8 games under)
            - Mets (gonna look to most likely deal Colon, who is having a good season, and Mets are in last)
            - Reds and Pirates are having tough seasons as well but I dont see them looking to change anything up in too crazy of a fashion.
            - Rockies (my team - gonna look to acquire some minor pieces most likely before making moves in the offseason.)

I'm thinking in terms of moving a lot of guys, its gotta be the Phils and or the Blue Jays.

I see the Reds moving spare pieces like Ryan Ludwick and maybe a reliever or two.

Russ Martin is on an expiring deal in Pittsburgh so maybe have him packing and go with Tony Sanchez/Chris Stewart the rest of the season.

Colon from the Mets like you said.

Willingham, Correia and a guy like Kubel from the Twins.

Marlins/White Sox...maybe a guy like Adam Dunn or Dayan Viciedo. Steve Cishek if Carter Capps/AJ Ramos are pitching well

Re: MLB 14 The Show Official Trade Discussion Thread

I just DFA'd Ernesto Frieri in my Pirates franchise. He's 3-5 with an ERA near 7 and a WHIP of 1.82. His H/9 & K/9 are soooo deceiving! I swear every time he came in the first pitch he threw was laced into a gap. I gave him every opportunity to succeed and it's been depressing to see him struggle so bad and blow games for me. Those three wins were likely the result of blowing leads and vulturing victories.

He did, however, flash some awesome stuff here and there. Based on his higher rating and great attributes for a reliever would he get me back a mid-C reliever on a team just to have in my system? I'm pretty thin at RP in the minors.

Or is he just a guy that needs to be released and have a team take a flier on him because he does have that in-game talent?

*Forgive me if he can't be traded after being DFA'd. I'm not 100% sure on MLB rules and regulations.*

I'd probably just outright him to AAA and find a reliever that you like and trade for him.

Maybe a find a team on the outside looking in. Have to jump 3-4 teams in the WC and need to take the risk/reward. Then take one of their better early 20's RP from the farm. MIL, CLE, etc.

Hey guys it is August 16th in my franchise, my catching situation is not so hot right now. Vazquez in just under 200 AB is hitting .168 with no power, his defense has been great but I want to add some more pop into this lineup as I am only 1.5 GB from the Jays and O's who are tied.

Here are teams out of it and their catchers:
                      Twins 47-73 - Kurt Suzuki .247/.293/.341
                      Astros 52-71 - Jason Castro .277/.352/.462
Phillies 58-63 (9 GB of division and 2nd WC) - Carlos Ruiz .260/.336/.395
                      Cubs 44-77 - Wellington Castillo .225/.278/.336
                      Padres 45-75 - Yasmani Grandal .254/.338/.361
                      Diamondbacks 57-64 - Miguel Montero .285/.370/.399

Now out of these guys who do you think would be a realistic target to clear waivers and be dealt?

Tough list. I would think Ruiz and Montero have the best bet to clear waivers or give you the best chance to slide to you for a claim.

17 days earlier and you have a much better selection. Expect a note from ownership comparing you to PHI and MIA GM's.

Looking at most of those numbers, and the numbers your guy is putting up, I might would look at AAA guys from other teams. Perhaps some have some decent skills that could help out. I don't believe minors players have to clear. I know I can select them when initiate a trade, meaning they are up for discussion. They'd likely have lower valuations as well, so maybe you could grab someone somewhat on the cheap.

Heck, anyone else in-house you could try? Can't get much worse than .168 with no power. I might be tempted to try to make Napoli remember how to be a catcher and then find another 1B/DH if things are that bad

I have a bit of a problem. I have 6 pitchers that have been pitching great for me lately. Dallas Keuchel, Scott Feldman, Brad Peacock, Colin McHugh, Mark Appel, and Brett Olberhotzer was bitch great until he got on the 60 day DL. anyone have any suggestions on what I should do?

I'm confused on what the problem is. 6 pitchers, 1 hurt. You only need 5 in the rotation.
