Re: MLB 14 The Show Official Trade Discussion Thread
This makes no sense for the Dodgers though. They have both outfield depth as well is shortstop depth. No need for either."Twelve at-bats is a pretty decent sample size." - Eric ByrnesComment

Look at it from the White Sox perspective--then answer what it would take to pry Sale from you. I just don't see a match there. It is like the Marlins wanting Correa and Springer for Stanton. I am thinking realism, not fairness.Comment

Re: MLB 14 The Show Official Trade Discussion Thread
That's why I stated with Russell.. Considering in 2013 the starting prospect was Archie Bradley from Az... Russell holds much more value..plus Edwards who many think is a ceiling #2.... And born to be Dh Vogelbach is a solid realistic offer...

Re: MLB 14 The Show Official Trade Discussion Thread
I love Russell but 3B is a much more pressing need so I'd think you'd have to look at Bryant or Baez. Vogelbach, I personally like but he doesn't have that much value. Edwards, meh, fine as an add-in. Both teams need SP. Hahn has called Sale "untouchable" so you really need to bring it if you want to keep it realistic. If you just want it to be fair, I'd value Sale a bit lower and would be okay with your deal if you subbed Vogelbach out for a LHH OF, SP, or good RP.Comment

No way Sale is dealt to the Cubs. It would be a franchise-destroying trade for the White Sox. You really have to understand the psychology of Sox fans--they are always the groomsman, but never the groom in Chicago. They would track Rick Hahn down to his house and do bad things to him if he dealt Sale to the Cubs. Not realistic (although from a pure value and fit standpoint, it makes all the sense in the world).Chicago Cubs | Chicago Bulls | Green Bay Packers | Michigan WolverinesComment

Sale is no Bambino.
B) March '92, Sammy Sosa traded to Cubs, Pale Hose wins WS 13 years later (and still before a Cub WS winner).
Sale is no Slammin' Sammy.
C) Ozzie Guillen changed the psycholgy of Sox fans. For Sale to be dealt to the Cubs all that is needed is a man with vision and the right spin to sale (pun intended) to ChiSox fans; i.e., it's better to be a groomsman with many options than a groom with only one.
Whodey, you are that groomsman with a vision. Do it!
Cubs, you are Al Bundy, a groom married to losing.T-BONE.

A) Babe Ruth was a pitcher, albeit a good one but not the Bambino when he was traded. Such an old comp that it isn't relevant. The blacksox happened, the ball was changed, Babe was changed to a hitter, and then the Bambino saved baseball. But yeah, the Red Sox did real good with that one, right? What was the name of the Broadway show?
B) Sosa hit .210 with 10 HRs and was traded for George Bell. Even Sammy wasn't Slammin' Sammy at that time!
C) Ozzie Guillen made headlines but I don't see how he changed the psychology of anyone other than some Cuban-Americans.
If I recall correctly, Wait is a Chicago native. I'd put some weight into his argument. I was a ChiSox fan for a long time. I can still tell you the '92 line-up off the top of my head. You want Sale, he ain't for sale.Comment

My only real point is Ozzie changed the mindset of the psychologically frail mindset of the White Sox fan from the need to be popular to the need to be a winner.
My reference to Sosa is, while he was no HoF'er in a White Sox jersey, that didn't kill the Sox after the numbers he put up '98-'99.
Also irrelevant as it may be, Ruth was the full time leftfielder (when he wasn't pitching) for Boston when traded. He hit a record 29 hr's in the deadball 1919 season and the Red Sox were truly a franchise destroyed post-Ruth.
You do what you have to to make your team better, be damned what an average fan thinks. If you run your team by what fans want, you will most assuredly become that which you don't want.
